A cancer-battling granddad has been left flabbergasted after being told he must wait three years for a hospital appointment. Andrew Jones, 61, won't be allowed to attend the medical facility until it's almost time for the next World Cup in North America. The granddad from Bridgnorth, Shrops, will have to wait until June 2025 before he can go for a check up at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, the Express and Star reports. Mr Jones thought there was a mistake on the letter he received on Saturday but was horrified to discover his appointment is correct, leaving him with nearly 1,000 days to wait.CORRECTION*

The basic question that is never discussed is what are people entitled to as medical care funded by government. Some think it's basic care for common maladies, others think the state (or insurance companies) responsible for whatever potentially life saving procedures there are, hang the expense. Medical care is not what we would like to believe - it's clinical, not personal. Life is cheap. 99.9 percent of us will pass with no notable legacy of having passed this way. Our families will mourn, and a generation will pass with little thought to those we like to pretend are "Gone, but not forgotten." So, what are the obligations...any?

Our second granddaughter suffered a stoke in-utero. A few hours after birth, her parents observed her "tapping" her hand to music. They knew it was weird so they made a video and showed the nurse. The nurse recognized the tapping as a seizure. Immediately, they checked her bloods sugar, normal. Then a spinal tap. Normal. Then a CT scan where the located the clot in the brain. Next the baby and her Dad were transported to a stepped up NICU at a hospital three miles away. My daughter checked herself out at six am and joined them. Within the next twelve hours the baby saw a pediatric hematologist, and two pediatric neurologist's. She had more brain scans and an MRI, MRA, AND MRA. It was July 4th and the temperature was nearing one hundred degrees. The excessive heat caused power problem's and the big machines went down. They told the Neurologist that they would do the tests the next day, after all it was a holiday. She told then no way. She wanted answers as to weather the stroke was a one time incident and she needed the results on the arteries and veins. She told them that she wanted to ease the parents minds. Eventually the machines came up, the tests came back and she declared the main event over but could not speculate on the damage done. The night of the first day, the baby received physical therapy because the stroke effected her swallowing muscles. For the next few months there were many followup appointments and physical and occupational therapy three to four times a week in the office and daily with my daughter. Ten years later that little girl is beautiful normal little girl. She does very well in school, she loves to bake cakes, do gymnastics and she and her sisters are Extreme Weapons champions in Taekwondo . She loves to tell the other kids that her stroke gave her super powers. I mention all her accomplishments because I'm proud of her of course, and that that first day was one of the worst in my life. My point is that we're nobody. No one owed My daughter or her husband any favors, no one has big money for hospital donations. They were a normal young couple with a sick baby, and yet all of these facilities, the doctors, nurses and specialists were dedicated to getting the baby diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. We were so lucky to live where this can happen. Shortly after, there was a documentary on infant strokes on Discovery. Interested I watched. It was in England and two kids had the same stroke as our baby. Even though one baby was diagnosed, she could not get the MRI for months afterward. That little girl is nine now and has some speech difficulty and a permanent limp. Similarly, a little boy lost the use of one arm and leg permanently. We are so lucky to live in The United States. We can complain about the costs of everything. Insurance premiums are outrageous, however when you get hit with something catastrophic you need answers, you need treatment now. The poor people who have no choice but to be on the NHS are hostages. The truth is you get what you pay for and those in charge are criminals.

A family member working/living in the UK needed a regular endoscopy. The wait time was 15 months! But he was able to purchase "private insurance" and guess what? The procedure was done the very next day. There will always be a way around the system, whether that's fair or not is another question. I, too, have lived/worked abroad for many years. Speaking of "fair", I watched helplessly as a dear friend in Tokyo died of a heart attack because NO HOSPITAL would admit a patient who couldn't speak Japanese. Or how about the German system? Yes, they'll tell you about their excellent FREE care but what they DON'T tell you is that the hospital corridors are filled with gurneys jammed next to each other because no rooms are ever available. While on your gurney when nature calls, you scream out, "Bitte?" and hopefully a little toilet will be wheeled around so you can relieve yourself in front of everyone. That's free, too! Despite our US problems, we have the very best medical care in the world.

Re #12. Look at the VA to get an idea of what universal health care is like. I am on Medicare but fortunately also can afford a supplement which makes the docs more inclined to accept you. I pay $200 plus per month for Medicare and $700 per month for our supplement. So, $12,000 per year for health insurance. Still, it’s better than waiting 12 months for a heart operation that you may not live long enough to receive. That’s what universal health care is like...rationing, long waits and sub-par care. Look up the horror stories from Britain’s NHS. I think that the elites want everyone over sixty to shuffle off and leave more for them. I never liked the French Revolution but now I am inclined to lobby for guillotines.

I just got an email from an English friend who mentioned in passing that she had had a severe bout with Shingles. Since she is several years shy of 70 years, the national health “service” wouldn’t give her the vaccine to prevent Shingles. Too expensive she was told. Not as dire as the poor man in this story but she was out of commission for a few months.

Their free healthcare system was installed at the end of the war by the Left who decided it was a perfect sop to the masses who were struggling with the bad economy. King George VI fought against it but he lost that battle. Now we are seeing the results of the mismanagement of the UK's healthcare system. Of course if they would dump all their welfare immigrants out of the nation and send them back to where they came from, they might ease the crisis a whole lot.

While preparing recently for my radio show on Newstalk 820 WBAP, I happened upon a seemingly innocuous news item. “J.P. Elder Middle School’s winning ways raise football expectations at North Side,” the Star-Telegram headline read. I love football. I’ll admit an initial wave of pride washing over me at the team’s accomplishment. It turns out that J.P. Elder had a perfect season, no losses. As a self-described “liberty-loving Latino,” I couldn’t help but smile in recognition of the fact that Hispanics dominate the school. That smile quickly faded when I learned about the shameful conduct being undertaken at that same Fort Worth ISD school

As the United States rolled back the clocks one hour this month to observe the end of Daylight Saving Time, many people got a bit more sleep than usual – but some not as much as others. Growing evidence shows that lack of sleep and sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, remain more prevalent in Black, Asian, and Hispanic or Latino communities, and these inequities can have long-term detrimental implications for physical health, even raising the risk of certain chronic diseases. Meanwhile, Daylight Saving Time itself – enacted in the US to reduce electricity usage by extending daylight hours – has long

For many Republicans, the final midterm election results were surprising— especially in the states of Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Based on polling, it looked likely that Kari Lake, Adam Laxalt, and Mehmet Oz would win their contests. I believe that there are only three likely explanations for the unexpected results: late campaign surges, polling error, or aggressive ballot-harvesting. A late surge? Some Republicans are falling for an illogical narrative put forth by Democrats and the mainstream media.

Not a week had gone by after the midterm elections before California governor Gavin Newsom’s presidential possibilities were being talked up. A Republican consultant even suggested Joe Biden ask for Kamala Harris’ resignation and appoint Newsom as his vice-president. Biden could then either resign himself, leaving Newsom president, or position him to run as semi-incumbent in 2024. No matter what turns the journey takes, there will be a train wreck at the station. Don’t be fooled by the governor’s margin of victory this year (59-41) and in 2018 (62-38). He has done nothing in his public life that recommends him for the presidency. Popular, yes, competent, no.
