DeSantis’s indirect attack on Trump:
‘There is no substitute for victory’

Make no mistake: it is on between DeSantis and Trump in the contest for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Watching Governor Ron DeSantis’s speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition (video embedded below) over the weekend, I have no doubt that he is planning a run for president. Nothing he said could be called an attack on Donald Trump, but the implication of what he said is clear. First and foremost, the words he borrowed from Winston Churchill, “There is no substitute for victory,” can be seen as a response to what many perceive

I am surprised to see Lifson try to get into this MSM concocted “rivalry” and with such thin gruel. Speaking of victory about a man who won the governorship of a state vs. one who won President of the United States and went on to great victories on that stage and the international stage? Seriously?

Actually, Governor, there is a substitute for victory. It’s called vote fraud, and you should know that.

With the fraud in place to steal elections neither man will see the interior of the White House in 2024 so why fight one another? Pete Buttigieg can beat either one and never have to campaign like fraud Joe Biden did. Fear not if nothing is done to correct the cheat, we won't have elections we will have selections in the future.

Churchill, as one of the most quoted figures in history, is also one of the most misquoted. Many of people’s favorite supposed Churchill-isms were not in fact said by him at all, perhaps like the "No Substitute" quote, which he may have said but is not attributed to him as it is Douglas MacArthur. Who knew that Gen. MacArthur, hundreds of military leaders, and thousands of sports coaches would all be reduced to Never Trumper status by repeating the quote. I'm ashamed of Lifson, a former adult in the room, coming off like a screechy democrat. At some point it might be healthy to realize that not every utterance made by a public figure has hidden meaning for or against Donald Trump. The victory of which MacArthur spoke wasn't remotely electoral but rather involved killing people and breaking things on a massive scale. Without men like Churchill and MacArthur, there would be no great political victories or political pontification by lesser members of the privileged class, born into power and wealth and mis-advertised as the great "fighters" of their time. One original Churchill quote, particularly resonates with me and it isn't remotely political: "Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." I remember watching Churchill's funeral on B&W TV and asking my WWII veteran dad questions about the man. That led to learning a lot of interesting things, not only about Churchill but about the fickleness of nations, once their chestnuts have been pulled from a raging fire, and a different class of "leaders" take root.

“There is no substitute for victory”, said by a man whose own second term came after suffering the defeat that followed his first. Sounds more like DeSantis is predicting Trump’s victorious return, not throwing him shade.

Hard to give any credibility to an author who attributes Douglas McArthur's quote to Winston Churchill. And more importantly, how is this directed against Trump? And who cares?

I have noticed that Ron DeSantis has very sizeable impression of himself and his abilities. 1) he would never had been governor of FL without Trump 2) he mimics Trumpism...brassness, direct, abrupt...Trump's personality is his own...he is one of a kind. Ron is mimicking him. 3) Those wins in FL that he is talking about were about Ron...they are about MAGA. Ron did not even mention MAGA 4) Ron is owned by the donor whores. He is NOT his own person. He has been and will continue to do as they say. 5) He is not Donald Trump...he is will not succeed. It is a mistake to jump out there at this point in time. He will go splat.

Chesapeake, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake police say the suspect behind a mass shooting at a Walmart just off Battlefield Blvd. is dead. It’s still unclear just how many people were killed or injured in the shooting, but police say there are multiple of both. A police spokesperson told WAVY’s Michelle Wolf that no more than 10 people have died. Police are still going through the building and people are asked to steer clear. The call reporting the shooting came in at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday. The Walmart supercenter was open to the public at the time.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who is expected to be the next House speaker, gave Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas an ultimatum: resign or face an impeachment inquiry. “Our country may never recover from Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty. This is why today I am calling on the secretary to resign,” McCarthy said. “If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action and every failure. And we will determine whether we can begin an impeachment inquiry.” The stark warning is a significant change in tone from McCarthy

Late on Tuesday night, court filings by the attorneys for the alleged shooter from the LGBTQ night club in Colorado Springs, Colorado revealed the shooter is non-binary and goes by they/them pronouns. After spending the past two days smearing conservative Christians for allegedly inspiring this apparent attack against gay people, CNN Tonight anchor Alisyn Camerota was clearly stunned as she watched her network’s narrative come crashing down. Breaking the news to her audience, Camerota begrudgingly reported that the “attorneys for the accused shooter, Anderson Lee Aldrich, say in new court filings tonight that the suspect now identifies as non-binary.”

A fun leftover from yesterday, in which the Paper of Record tries to answer the age-old question: Are the tweets bluer on the other side of the fence? Excuse me, the toots? The New York Times took a closer look at the new Mastodon instant-messaging platform to which reporters of all stripes — but mainly progressives — have recently decamped. The selling point for the service is its decentralization as well as its collaborative moderation, at least theoretically. In practice, however, it looks more like a confused mess where “journalists” eat their own rather than practice tolerance, including at the Journa.host node funded in large part by the J-school at CUNY:

New York Times reporter Nicholas Bogel-Burroughs posted a tweet that the defense attorneys refer to the defendant as “Mx. Anderson Aldrich.” Aldrich is currently being held on suspicion of murder and hate crimes, in connection to the shooting at Club Q, which occurred on Saturday night. He was injured after patrons

Donald Trump’s money-losing app Truth Social has been spared from a possible shutdown in the coming weeks after investors voted to extend a deadline on a deal to give the company a major cash injection. More than 65% of investors in Digital World Acquisition Corp. — the blank-check company that has agreed to acquire Truth Social — voted Tuesday to give the merger until September 2023 to close. The fledgling social network will be forced to raise additional cash to keep operating in the meantime, during which the so-called special-purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, will seek approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission for the deal, sources told The Post.
