The Biden administration will soon ask the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court decision blocking the implementation of the president's student loan debt cancellation plan.
The Department of Justice on Thursday asked a federal appeals court to end the injunction on the plan's implementation while indicating in the same filing that it would turn to the Supreme Court to list a separate appeals court ruling, the Associated Press reported.
Biden announced his plan in late August to forgive student debt up to $10,000 for those earning less than $125,000 annually and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated the plan will cost taxpayers

When Biden’s unconstitutional student loan debt cancellation scheme is thrown out by the Supreme Court, Biden and the Democrats will cast blame on the Republican nominated Supreme Court Justices.

I think that the loan forgiveness is not about debt relief for Americans, it is about taxing Americans without increasing the tax rate. Remember that if someone pays your debt, it becomes income thus increasing your tax liability and your tax bracket. The 87,000 new agents will see to it.

It distresses me to say, but I'm not sure I trust the Court to smack this insanity down.

Since they shot down Roe v Wade it’s doubtful that they’ll discover a constitutional right to have student debt paid off by taxpayers. It’s doubtful that they’ll even take up the case.

Not that the Biden Admin gives a rancid rat's patoot about student loan debt, maybe the ''Admin'' has nothing better to do than mess with the SCOTUS. There's no pipeline they could fix, there's no wall they could finish building, there's no more family fortunes they could hide, nada, zilch. Maybe Biden or Hunter could get a paper route to earn a few pesos. Jill could go back into the classroom and teach youngsters how to dress for success. /s At least Bill Clinton had a bake sale. LOL

I would be surprised and angered if the SCOTUS heard this case and reinstated an unconstitutional act by an illegitimate president.

The SC should decline this case.

This will bring Biden forgiveness by the tens of thousands if students who will not get forgiveness and redirect their anger for same at the SCOTUS instead f Biden. Merely a political ploy to placate the idiot students who believe the Gov is their savior.

If John Roberts decides that any current ruler can arbitrarily cancel any debt of any one of their choosing then the flip side will be that the current ruler can impose a debt (AKA 'it's just a tax') on any one of their enemies to destroy them and the country will be officially finished.

There is a reason for the 10th Amendment.
How about debt relief for injured veterans, disabled people, cancer treatments, the elderly, vacations?

When I was going to respond to this article, I first read the #1 reply and decided I didn't need to. #1 already said what I was going to write. They know they'll lose at the Supreme Court but that will allow them to blame the Supreme Court.

If SCOTUS does hear the case, it will be at least 6-3 against Biden, with maybe Kagan joining them. The Wide Latina and the Non-Biologist will vote as expected.

SCOTUS will not rule in favor of Biden. Biden is spending money that was not approved by the House, as stated in the Constitution. He has broken the law by giving money to students to repay loans and they are using the money for other choices. What should have been done was to just drop the money from the loan and send no money to students. Additionally, they should have paid out the loans directly to the universities just as the VA manages payments for veterans. This entire little fiasco was planned by Obama and company when he took over the student loan program.

I'm with you #10. This is about taxing by fiat. No Congress, no oversight, no checks nor
balances.
Just ' we're gonna spend a half a billion for a new swimming pool at MY summer house !' and it's
DONE. No rebuttal, NOTHING. Exactly what the Democrats have wanted for decades, unrestricted
in any way, access to the piggy bank ( aka TAXPAYERS ) and any whim or demand ENFORCEABLE
BY LAW.
Welcome to what used to be the United States of America and is now just a very large
banana republic screw up !
Don't despair folks, we'll get it ALL straightened out in 2024 with votes. Yeah, right. Just like
last week ???

This won't work. However, to an anti-American, anti- Constitutional, pro Communist political party, the Supreme Court is racist, and they will try and ignore the SC decision and do it anyway.

Slam dunk.
The Supremes should refuse to hear the case, but if they do, it should be 9-0 against Biden.

Roberts, writing the decision (while dancing around the constitutional issue): “Student debt cancellation adds to government debt and increases the money supply, thereby fueling inflation. Inflation is effectively a tax on savers, ergo, student debt cancellation is a tax, and therefore legal.”
