President Joe Biden pledged to build a high-speed railway between Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New York City on Wednesday.
The president made his bold (and likely unrealistic) pronouncement during his post-midterm election press conference on Wednesday when recalling how a congressman in the state of Pennsylvania asked if his infrastructure plan would include a high-speed rail between the two cities.
“We can. First of all, it will make it a lot easier to take a lot of vehicles off the road, and we have more money in the pot now already out there that we voted for than the entire money that we spend on Amtrak, to begin with,” he said.

Why not?
Promise/talk about/bs about anything: talk is cheap.
The hollowing out through malinvestment is still probably years away and it can always be blamed on Trump.

Biden’s promise is a textbook definition of answering a question nobody asked.
And BTW, you mean “convenience” of your own vehicles, not “inconvenience”.

I’m reminded of an old Joke…My girlfriend told me to kiss her someplace dirty, so I took her to Scranton.

Certainly, we CAN build high speed rail from Scranton to New York City. However, doing so would NOT reduce the dependence on personal vehicles because those people who moved from New York City to the Scranton area while still working in New York would need cars to get around in Luzerne County.

And the 14 people every day who commute from Scranton to New York will be thrilled. Well, at least 8 of them. Some will continue to drive their cars.

Allow me to translate:
Biteme (and friends) own property that could be sold to the government at a VERY high price for this wonderful high speed rail line.

Even if the tickets to ride it we’re free, I doubt if there would be that many riders. Sounds like the perfect Democrat infrastructure project. Expensive, impractical, unneeded and down right stupid.

Has biden negotiated for his 10%?
Let's think about the 10th Amendment. It should be the decision of the states involved.
The US Treasury is NOT biden's piggy bank!

Have you seen to toll prices for the Penn Turnpuke? More than an amtrack ticket...but....you'd also have to pay for parking and a rental on either end. cannot carry pets, kids cost extra, luggage costs extra, on the train....on the roads semi trucks are more than half the traffic.
WHY does this guy ALWAYS talk about Scranton, and PA, even gives most of his speeches from Pa, it's as if he NEVER had anything to do with Delaware, only Pa.

Here are some Scranton tidbits. From the 1980s -
The former mayor of Scranton liked choo choo trains - the old fashioned ones.So he somehow created Steamtown, an assembled group of old choo choo trains, in downown Scranton, next to the University of Scranton campus. Steamtown is dirty, stinky, noisy. And somehow, it became a national parkservice park. And the Mayor went to prison for corruption.
An accounting professor from the University of Scranton led the effort to build a baseball stadium, in order to attract a minor league team. He was successful in getting the stadium built, but unsuccessful in pleading mental illness as a defense against his corruption convictions. He went to prison, just like the Mayor did.
A history professor at the University of Scranton was an expert of colonial tableware. Because of his reputation, he was given access to all sorts of valuable collections in museums, nd when he gained access, he stole stuff. He didn't have an explanation for his thievery, and went to federal prison for grand larceny.
And one more thing about the accounting professor - he was awarded the outstanding teaching award at the University of Scranton.
This fast train to NYC is maybe the dumbest idea Biden has ever had. He is dumber than Michael Scott. But perhaps one of the Biden Crime Family corporations is buying up property as we speak.
Even Scott's Tots would agree the idea is dumb..

Why would Scranton want anyone coming to their town from New York? Reminds of when the MARTA opened a subway stop at Atlanta’s then premier shopping mall, Lenox Square. After MARTA allowed the thugs easy access, the mall became a crime-ravaged hellhole and now is a shell of its former existence.
Don’t take it Scranton. Tell Joe to leave you alone.

Governor Hochul in NY might not like high speed rail service to Scranton. It'll be just another exit route for people depopulating her overtaxed, overregulated, high crime, one party fascist state

Does Scranton really want to change to a New York suburb? Look out unless you want higher prices on everything and demanding people.

Finally, New Yorkers would have way to commute to Scranton without the inconvenience and security of their own vehicles. AND, if the opening paragraph is correct, Biden will have it done on Wednesday.
