Paul Ryan said he does not believe former president Donald Trump would be the GOP’s 2024 nominee for president.
The one-time Republican House speaker — who has had an acrimonious relationship with Trump — offered a blistering assessment Thursday during an interview with Teneo, a D.C. consulting shop where he serves as a vice-chairman.

Former president Barack Obama said Friday that he is open to reforming the Supreme Court to increase Americans’ confidence in the Court, but warned against playing “explicit political games.”
Asked during an appearance on Pod Save America whether he would consider reforms to regain voters trust in the Court, Obama said: “I’m open to it.”
“I think it has to be thought through,” he said. “One of the arguments we made at the time when [Mitch] McConnell decided that … [Merrick Garland] wouldn’t even get a hearing or a vote, is that if you start playing such explicit political games in the appointment process, it’s hard for people not to feel

Only 33% of Americans would vote to reelect President Biden if the 2024 election were held today — and 54% would cast their ballot for another candidate, according to a Fox News poll released Sunday.
The 33% who would vote for Biden — 21% definitely and 12% probably — mark a drop of 3 percentage points since January, while the percentage who would opt for someone else fell from 60% to 54% in that period, the survey found.
The poll also shows that while 71% of Democrats would vote to reelect the president, 19% would not, along with 91% of Republicans and 54% of independents.

Former President George W. Bush is taking time away from his retirement to campaign for Senate candidate Joe O’Dea of Colorado — who has bucked his party by saying he would not support former President Donald Trump as the next GOP nominee. According to Bridget Bowman of NBC News, the last Republican president to win the popular vote at least once will come back out of retirement to campaign for O’Dea:

Politics is fun, isn’t it? You can play with the truth all you want, and, as long as you’re a member of the right party, you can throw all the crap you want against a wall just to see what sticks. And no one of any significance will say a word.
Of course, that’s only true if you’re a Democrat. That’s why when Joe Biden deadpanned that prices would rise if Republicans were elected, no one laughed — out loud, at least.
“Here’s the bottom line. So please hear this. When it actually comes time to do something about inflation around the table, Republicans in Congress are saying ‘no,'”

Outgoing National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that for people to think he is political is “completely crazy.”
Anchor Jon Karl said, “Fauci became the subject of bizarre conspiracy theories and received countless death threats as he was vilified by the right. So what’s the biggest misconception about you?”
Fauci said, “You know, I don’t know, Jon. I think the misconception is I was misleading people. You know, to say that I, who have been adviser to seven presidents and have never ever veered one way or the other from an ideological standpoint, for somebody to say that I’m political,

A selfie crowd formed around Pete Buttigieg as he stood in line for coffee at the airport in Washington. One woman said she wasn’t going to stop because she wasn’t sure it was him. “It’s me,” the Transportation secretary replied. An older man explained to his wife, “That’s Pete BOOT-GUG,” missing the pronunciation and the emphasis. “He’s the President’s…” the man said, unable to come up with his job title. And yet, it’s Buttigieg – whose only political experience before his failed presidential bid was serving as mayor of South Bend, Indiana – who has become the most requested surrogate

Nike co-founder Phil Knight says he will do anything to block Democrats from keeping their hold on Oregon's gubernatorial seat Saturday.
Knight, 84, has poured cash into the campaigns of Democrat Tina Kotek's opponents in the governors race. He helped to kickstart a campaign from Betsy Johnson, a former Democrat running as an independent, who is serving as a major spoiler for Kotek.
Johnson's candidacy is giving Republican Christinze Drazan the opportunity she needs in a liberal electorate no longer confident in the state's recent far-left policies.

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok said Monday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that he believed the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 was a far greater threat to American democracy than the 9/11 terror attack.
Anchor Nicolle Wallace said, “I worked in the administration in which he served as FBI director. What he sort of gave birth to in the lexicon was the FBI would never again, first of all fail to sync up with a CIA, and all sorts of artificial and real walls were torn down and they would never again fail to connect the dots. I’ve not heard one utterance of connecting the dots from Christopher Wray

Paul Ryan, the losing vice presidential candidate on the Republican Party’s all-RINO 2012 ticket, says that Donald Trump, the only Republican candidate to win the presidency between 2004 and 2020, cannot win in 2024. Ryan, of course, really hopes that Trump will not regain the presidency, for that would mean the definitive end of the controlled-opposition establishment wing of the Republican Party, in which Ryan was once a central figure. But Ryan on Thursday went beyond expressing the hope that Trump would lose to stating confidently that he would.

“I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” O’Dea said in an interview Sunday on CNN’s "State of the Union." “I’m going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we’ve got four or five really great Republicans right now.”
Among those mentioned as potential 2024 GOP presidential candidates are former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
