A Chinese Communist Party military scientist who got funding from the National Institutes of Health filed a patent for a COVID-19 vaccine in February last year — raising fears the shot was being studied even before the pandemic became public, according to a new report. Zhou Yusen, a decorated military scientist for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) who worked alongside the Wuhan Institute of Virology as well as US scientists, filed a patent on Feb. 24 2020, according to documents obtained by The Australian. (snip) Adding to the intrigue, Zhou later died under mysterious circumstances in May last year

I'm confused. The date on the New York Post is October 10, 2022. But the date on the article is June 4, 2021.

New York is a deep blue state, and Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul should have no problem getting reelected. Except that may not be the case this year. (snip) Even in races where the outcome seems inevitable, we’ve been used to seeing candidates facing each other in multiple debates, yet now we’re even seeing Democrats in tight races running scared from their Republican opponents. Why is that? I think we can all figure out the reason. Democrats are trying to make this election about abortion because they think it’s an issue they can win on,

Munich— Oktoberfest is back in Germany after two years of pandemic cancellations — the same bicep-challenging beer mugs, fat-dripping pork knuckles, pretzels the size of dinner plates, men in leather shorts and women in cleavage-baring traditional dresses. But (snip) visitors are under pressure from inflation in a way that could scarcely be imagined the last time it was held in 2019. For one thing, the 1-liter (2-pint) mug of beer will cost between 12.60 and 13.80 euros ($12.84 and $14.07) this year, which is an increase of about 15% compared with 2019,

Since the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine has experienced heavy air traffic. However, astronomers claim to have discovered that the skies over Kyiv are home to more than just Russian jets. The researchers came across celestial objects that were not warplanes. They speculate that there may be an excessive number of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). The results were published in arxiv.org by Kyiv’s Main Astronomical Observatory in coordination with the country’s National Academy of Science on August 23. The report doesn't mention the war specifically, but the U.S. has long suggested, conjectured, and cautioned that certain

We live in an era of stark political division, but there's at least one aspect of politics both sides agree on: a maximum age limit for elected officials. Most feel that after a certain age they should not be permitted to hold office. There isn't just agreement across political lines, but across demographic groups, like age, too. Young and old, including seniors, favor maximum age limits for elected officials. And far more Americans believe additional young people in elected office would be a positive for U.S. politics than a negative. (snip) Age 70 is the top answer chosen.

Washington(AP) — Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, the Arizona Democrat who single-handedly thwarted her party’s longtime goal of raising taxes on wealthy investors, received nearly $1 million over the past year from private equity professionals, hedge fund managers and venture capitalists whose taxes would have increased under the plan. (Snip) The donations, which make Sinema one of the industry’s top beneficiaries in Congress, serve a reminder of the way that high-power lobbying campaigns can have dramatic implications for the way legislation is crafted, particularly in the evenly divided Senate where there are no Democratic votes to spare.

A Canadian ketchup brand has launched an unusual twist on a popular summer treat: Ketchup-flavored popsicles. The "Frenchsicle," a unique offering from French's Ketchup, is available in select pop-up locations until Thursday, according to a news release from French's. The popsicle was created in collaboration with Happy Pops, a Canadian ice pops brand focused on natural, gluten-free ingredients. The savory tomato flavor of the popsicles comes from 100 percent Canadian tomatoes, says the news release. "I love creating innovative treats that appeal to Canada's diverse tastes," said Happy Pops founder Leila Keshavjee in the release.

Amazon is devising a way for users to speak to their family members through its Alexa voice assistant, even after they’ve died. (Snip) In a demonstration video, a child said, “Alexa, can Grandma finish reading me the Wizard of Oz?” Alexa confirmed the request with the default, robotic voice, then immediately switched to a softer, more humanlike tone, seemingly mimicking the child’s family member. The Alexa team developed a model that allows its voice assistant to produce a high-quality voice with “less than a minute of recorded audio,” Prasad said. The feature is currently in development, Prasad said.

Two years ago, with millions of people out of work and central bankers and politicians striving to lift the U.S. economy out of a pandemic-induced recession, inflation seemed like an afterthought. A year later, with unemployment falling and the inflation rate rising, many of those same policymakers insisted that the price hikes were “transitory” – a consequence of snarled supply chains, labor shortages and other issues that would right themselves sooner rather than later. Now, with the inflation rate higher than it’s been since the early 1980s, Biden administration officials acknowledge that they missed their call.

The U.S. Army is scrambling after missing recruitment numbers in 2022 by wide margins. "Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told reporters that a new recruiting task force is coming up with ideas. It can refer to a heart that is beating too quickly, too slowly, or with an otherwise irregular pattern.

One problem is tepid enthusiasm among a key segment of the Democratic base: Black men. One-third of Black men registered in Georgia haven’t voted in the past several elections, with pollsters

It reserved the right to confiscate $2,500 from people’s accounts if they spread “misinformation.” It was a clear announcement of what many already suspected: PayPal has enlisted in the information war. This comes weeks after PayPal blocked several important accounts in the UK, including Toby Young’s personal account, the Free Speech Union, and the DailySceptic.
