A new cobalt mine, the first in decades, opened in Idaho Friday to meet the demand for a key rare-earth mineral used in electric vehicle batteries and other military and aerospace parts. The mine, operated by Australia-based Jervois Global, is located near a defunct open-pit cobalt mine. In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, the new mine is mostly underground and will be capped once its operations eventually cease. Department of Energy Undersecretary for Science and Innovation Geri Richmond told the crowd gathered for the opening that “We’re talking about building a world class clean energy economy, and this mine, this project … is key

EVs and their batteries may be one of the biggest money laundering scams since the Clinton Foundation looted us and the rest of the world. The ads on TV for the damn things are all sunshine and lollipops but they are impractical and will destroy what’s left of the planet. If you live in Florida and are on the ocean, don’t park the darn thing in your garage or near your house if a hurricane is coming: EV +. Salt Water = A four wheeled self igniting dumpster fire that is damn near impossible to put out.

FTA: 'While the Idaho mine will meet some demand, it will not be able to make the U.S. entirely self-sufficient in terms of cobalt production; it is projected to meet only 10% of domestic demand.' Typical! They found one marshmallow to roast over this dumpster fire of an administration.

Perhaps more learned than I can weigh in, but limited search reveals cobalt has limited recycling potential. Yet we want to use a quantity in excess of known world supply on the EV boondoggle. Things that make you go HMMM...

How long before the cobalt mine shuts down because there isn't enough cobalt? It's near a closed cobalt mine. There is a reason it is closed. Btw, what else uses cobalt? Hope nothing critical. If it is used for EVs, what will it be taken away from? If cobalt is in short supply, how long before shortages appear?

Facing a tough reelection fight, Gov. Brian Kemp has in the past year committed almost all of the $4.8 billion in COVID-19 relief money approved over his opposition by Congress in 2021. That means whoever wins the gubernatorial election in November will have little federal COVID relief money to spend on their priorities going forward. The Republican governor has allocated all but $150 million of the money, announcing over the past year police bonuses, high-speed internet and sewer projects, debit cards for low-income Georgians, money for housing and business programs, and desperately needed funding for Grady Memorial Hospital, among other things.

In Colorado, illegal immigrants are able to obtain a driver’s license, which was apparently the nexus of the issue. The postcards were mailed to residents last week who had non-citizen Colorado driver’s licenses.
