President Biden traveled Monday to Puerto Rico to survey hurricane damage, meet with families and announce $60 million in emergency aid to prepare the island for future storms. Mr. Biden’s trip comes two weeks after Hurricane Fiona ravaged the island. As of Monday, 100,000 people are still without power because of storm damage.
After receiving a briefing from civil leaders about Fiona’s aftermath, Mr. Biden announced a new round of funding for the island. The aid will be used to shore up levees, strengthen flood walls and create new flood warning systems to prepare Puerto Ricans for future threats. It will come from the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that Congress

That should just about be enough for those in charge of PR to transfer to swiss bank accounts in the middle of the night. $60M this week but by the end of the month there will be another $120M on the way. Which should be half of what they need to get electricity back up.

Hurricane Maria knocked out the power grid in 2017. FEMA in a typically rapid response gave them $9.6 billion in September 2020 to rebuild the grid, about another $3.4 billion in federal funding has been added since. I don't think money is the problem. So Brandon gives them another $60 million to shore up levees, strengthen flood walls and create new flood warning systems. I don't think money is the problem. It's who's pocket the money ends up in.

60 million dollars. Does that mean Joe Biden just made 6 million dollars? Since Puerto Rico is rumored to be so corrupt, perhaps Biden got 12 million.

You bet there are corrupt officials and others waiting for all that US taxpayers money to become available to them throughout Puerto Rico. Chances are about one hundred and twelve percent of the people who live on the island of Puerto Rico are already on welfare so you have to figure that unfortunately there is a lot of corruption ongoing in Puerto Rico.

Keep in mind, total GDP of Puerto Rico is around $100Billion. Biden has already given them 25% or so of that amount. On top of all of the funds granted during Trumps time in office. They already HAVE the money to build what they needed to build, just hadn't done it. Part of the reason is that only local Unions can do the work, and they will not allow new people to join. After the quakes and Maria even Union member volunteers from the USA who arrived on scene with tools, tarps, trucks, plane loads and barge loads of supplies and CASH were not allowed to help. Several hundred teamsters were not allowed to drive, carpenters tasked with cutting up brush piles, were not allowed to do ANY skilled Labor of any kind... linesmen and electrician forbidden from gearing up. Fuel and supplies were being delivered to gated, un damaged mansions and townhouses of the politically connected NOT to the people. Generators from FEMA and even the National Guard were delivered to restaurants and clubs owned by politically connected instead of nursing homes and hospitals.

Swell. Impotent Joe has a hot sheet quickie with Puerto Rico, and we the people are stuck paying for it. Maybe he never got the memo about PR’s notorious penchant for corruption whenever American dollars show up there...

That blatant corruption is why PR will never agree to become the 51st state. The powers that be there know full well that their corrupt practices would become federal crimes and they aren't willing to give up their cushy homes and lifestyles or their hefty foreign bank accounts.

Re #3, a very competent and efficient American company got the initial contract to restore the power grid on PR. They started out rapidly and effectively rebuilding the infrastructure. But, very quickly the corrupt PR government officials got that contract cancelled in favor of local (corrupt and incompetent) contractors who made a hash of it and much of the money was diverted from actually accomplishing repairs and upgrades to the pockets of politicians and other crooked folks.

Fears? The corruption is a feature! Better give them $120 million, or even $240 million, just to make sure, and never you mind that maybe 5 cents on the dollar might have a chance of helping a person in need instead of a person in greed.
