Floridians have been urged to 'get out now' as Hurricane Ian barrels towards the Sunshine State and is set to bring 15ft waves and 140mph winds.
Local officials warned residents 'do not wait' and stressed 'time is of the essence' as the monster storm loomed in the Caribbean Sea just south of Cuba.
They ordered more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes in parts of Hillsborough - including Tampa - Manatee, and Hernando counties, with more expected to follow.
Terrified residents have started desperately digging huge trenches to redirect flood water while others have stripped shelves bare of water and essentials.

They like to overbake the terminology in the press.

Not to go off topic but what happens if something like this happens on election day?

Fear mongering. The latest tracking shows Ian petering out as soon as it makes landfall.

Use a backhoe. It goes much faster.

Their articles would not be read If they don't make it the worst storm in a century, massive power outages to last for weeks, help will be unable to reach you for a month at least, and maybe sharks will be incoming with the waves.

If you live right on the coast....you should always evacuate, storm surge and the waves is a serious danger to property and life, yes. But if you are at least 10 miles inland, and not on a canal or other body of water connected to the ocean, then it depends on your judgement of the storm (wind) worthiness of your home. Many homes are going to stand up to the most likely speeds of maybe 120 mph. Evacuation should be a no brainer close to the coast, farther inland.....depends on your home, and it's construction.
Cat 2 now, and predictions are that it will get to Cat 4 around Cuba and then start to lose power due to high level wind shear and lower temps in the northern gulf.
DM is a hysteria machine. Always blasting the worst possible "MIGHT happens". Wait and see. But coastal residents...yes, evacuate.

140 mph winds, if true, they need to leave. If there are trees near your house, leave. You won't have electricity or water for weeks, so leave.

Every two or three years its "the storm of the century" or something else...a murder, a trial, box office sales, ugliest dog ever seen...whatever, the biggest or ugliest in a century. Or, get this, "not seen since Neanderthal times." Is that what they teach in journalism school?

At least in Florida they won't be told not to forget their masks.

I live in North Georgia. I’ll just wait and see and ignore the MSMs hysteria and make my own preps. Opal crashed a tree and totaled one of my cars so I don’t ignore bad weather. But, jeez, get a grip. We have dealt with things like this since the dawn of time but we didn’t have the media chasing ratings like they do now.

Don't forget to fuel up your cars first! Oh wait, if you got an electric virtue signaling vehicle, learn to swim.

So, what do I do with my two virtue-signaling Teslas? Do I tow one behind the other? Do I tow my portable generator behind the second Tesla? Do I tow the solar array behind the portable generator?
Or so I flee in my RAM 1500 Longhorn?

#6: lol. I was going to evacuate, but now I’m reconsidering. If there’ll be sharks in my yard tomorrow, I want to stick around and see that!
