The township of Lakewood removed all of the trees in the town square last month in response to what town officials described as months of complaints about the growing homeless population at the plaza.
The move came as a result of a recommendation from the Lakewood Township Police Department’s Quality of Life Unit after dozens of reports from residents, local business owners and township employees, officials said. A spokesperson for the police department declined to comment on the move.

Now the homeless will do what they've been doing in full view of anyone walking past the plaza.

Town officials vandalize the town square?!!! Their job is not to vandalize but instead to protect and defend.

Malls were created as town squares that kept out the buns and undesirables.
Time to revitalize malls with security guards and ID checks at door and no bus stop or public transport within 5 miles, excepting a shuttle for employees only.

They're vagrants! Throw them in the pokey then run them out of town with a stern warning.

The township has made the town square an ugly waste land. They could have put police on patrol to stop vagrants from harassing people walking by instead of making it an eye sore. That was no way to solve the problem and the citizens should be very vocal.

read the whole story....they implemented sooo many programs to fund paying peoples rents, getting them housing, food, education, legal help, drug treatment(that enables them to get disability payments) that homeless from all over the area are flocking there by bus. They blame the surrounding towns for NOT implementing the same programs to keep the homeless there.
Compare this to the "Racist Trees" stories from all across the country where cities are planting trees in "Shade Deprived" minority and poor areas.

Okay, I can understand why this action would keep pigeons from gathering overhead but the homeless? Somebody did not think this through.

This happened years ago in front of our Civic Center when they yanked at least 2 dozen trees and a really nice fountain. It's now just a concrete slab in front of a classic Art Deco bldg.

I guess the greenies haven't spoken up yet. Where are the people who used to chain themselves to trees.

Some parks have torn out benches and picnic tables too. The 'unhoused' were sleeping on them, amongst other activities that would cause a park visitor to vomit.

Many homeless people simply prefer to do drugs around a group so, if the OD, someone can save them with Nardal.
This tree cutting is supposed to be the 1st part of redoing the Town Square into a "family friendly" park.
We'll see.
Salt Lake City used to use archetecture to deter homeless people from sleeping on benches and in parks but the progressives shamed them into removing most of it.
Lakewood is going along that same path.

So the trees got punished because the city wouldn't clear out the vagrants. Unbelievable.

Instead of cutting down trees; they should have put them on a bus to New York City, and say they're illegals. They will immediately get housing, phones, clothing, food, health care, and money.

Ahem……
Lakewood is wholly, completely and fully……
Hasidic Jewish.
Why, they actually were persecuted themselves for multiple, high high dollar value(Millions) welfare/aid scams a few years back.
Just saying, this act is NOT very……’Tikun Olam’…..
