If you thought parts shortages couldn't get any worse for the auto industry than they did last year, then it's time to hit reset. We've seen multiple car companies, including international giants like Honda and Toyota, struggle to deliver vehicles simply because they can't source the components they need. The same is true with Ford, which announced this week that up to 45,000 vehicles will be held in its inventory this quarter until they receive essential parts—mainly chips. The Blue Oval has made use of Kentucky Speedway's many lots to store its many trucks until they can be sent

We outsourced everything to the countries of the world, many of whom hate us.

Just when they're making a hard turn into electric vehicles...

I'm sure the increased price of fuel hasn't been helping to sell trucks either.

How about bringing chip production back to this country and exporting the excess? We sure have plenty of people now to employ. Maybe they could then actually buy a truck.

They are no harder to see from space than all those piled-up electric vehicles from BYD in China, which get produced thanks to subsidies, but also go unsold, and then get cannibalized.

It is sad. In less than two years Bidenomics has taken companies responsible for supplying the world with arms and military equipment against fascist and tyranny. Now they can't compete manufacturing a simple pickup truck. Diaper Joe had to work hard to destroy US companies so quickly.

Serves them right. Not every flippin thing in an auto needs to be chip-ized. I read somewhere that there are around 70 chips and sensors in a vehicle now.

Go back to building vehicles like they did when I was a new driver. No chips, just a carburetor and a stick shift. Today's drivers can't shift for themselves, or even park; they need the car to do it for them.

I doubt Ford knows how to make carburetors and stick transmissions anymore.

Can they bypass some or all of the chips, perhaps to install at a later date? Cars used to run without them.
My two-year-old car has lots of features on it that I totally ignore and only got because I had no choice. If Toyota wants to harvest chips not needed, I'll be happy to sell them back.

I have a 5-year- old Toyota truck. I could do without half the electronic gadgets they stuffed into it. Maybe the auto companies’ reliance on all these chips will lessen, after the current shortage is rectified.

Bought a CanAm Max 3. Had to wait months for the parts crucial to operate the vehicle before I could take delivery. Welcome to the brave new world. Counting on electricity? Don't bet on it - buy it! Electric Energy stocks should do very very very well. Off topic.
The CanAm was born in Mexico, in case you are wondering, and it races in Mexico.

Just wait until Xi blocades or invades Taiwan, which produces 90% of the world's advanced chips. It will make the current supply shortages look like the horn of plenty.

Just had my RAV4 serviced and was talking to my old salesman that now a service rep. Said he moved to service cause Toyota can’t get the computer chips need. My guess is that these chips come from China. And China is clearly in distress. They have never announced their Covid deaths. And a friend who goes there on business said that the streets looked much more empty than before the plandemic.

Trying to think outside the box here. Put all the illegals in a Ford F150 "home". Charge the govt a mere $800 per month rent. No need to buy evil gasoline or worry about chips. Win win for Ford and illegals. /s

Gee, however did they manage to make vehicles work in the days before computer chips???
Perhaps the ancient engineers left a written record of their mysterious technology, and the car companies could build them that way and clear the storage lots.

We purchased a Ford F150 truck right before the pandemic. Our old F150 was on it's last leg. Now the truck we purchased is worth more than we paid for it. I'm glad we got it when we did because we have to have a truck. My car is getting old and we had planned to replaced it next but the pandemic happened and prices went way up . I'm going to keep my old car as long as I can -- had to put some costly new parts in it and it's running good now.
