New York’s swelling Medicaid rolls are
helping bankrupt Brooklyn’s biggest hospital

Life, death, newborns entering the world, a CEO raking in millions, politicians calling for an investigation: all part of the drama swirling around Maimonides Medical Center, which lost a staggering $145 million last year. It’s Brooklyn’s largest hospital, and newly released financials show it barely has the cash to make it through another year.(Snip)Worse, the same basic story is being repeated at hospitals everywhere that treat the poor. Safety-net hospitals are bleeding red ink because Medicaid, the government health-insurance program, shortchanges hospitals, paying them only 67 cents for every dollar of care. Most hospitals shift the 33% in unmet costs to the privately insured patient

Comments:

Is anything more expensive than when it's free? Especially with millions and millions of The World's Poor being imported wholesale by the US government in their drive to destroy the economy and throw everyone but themselves into poverty.

Cloward and Piven taught to overload the system, crash the system, then remake it into what you really want. This is an intentional work in progress designed to crash the system. God only knows that what they really want is government control of all of healthcare. Doomed to fail.

Related observation, you don’t see many med school graduates entering “private practice” any longer. In addition to Medicaid being a loosing proposition, many insurance companies reimburse whenever and whatever they please. A few specialties probably still do well, but unless you work for a functioning hospital, or choose dermatology, it is not particularly rewarding. Government and legal factors have killed medicine. In the past, I suggested Truck Driving to people looking for emotionally and financially pleasant futures. Presently, that is as bad or worse, and I feel badly for them.

Happening everywhere. The hospitals used to make it up by charging people with group or private insurance outrageous prices but the insurance companies are cracking down on getting charged fifty bucks for an aspirin. I have been on both sides of this.

Posted earlier on Lucianne was an article on American's dissatisfaction with the health system. This article is a clear explanation of exactly why! Medicaid (free insurance for the "poor") reimburses healthcare providers less than their costs. This drives up what everyone else gets to pay, thus sky high deductibles on employer and private insurance plans. All Hospitals a required by law to provide services to everyone, insured or not, knowing that in many cases, they will never be paid. Stop making Medicaid "free". Lots of the "poor" are not so poor, they are just good at gaming the system.

Obamacare itself caused such skyrocketing of health costs that thousands of employers dropped coverage for health insurance. All of us have experienced huge increases in deductibles and premiums and millions of younger folk have just dropped coverage altogether gambling they'd stay well. But fewer people to share costs means even worsened charges among the few of us left. People need to understand all of this is to create a demand for nationalized healthcare under a single insurance provider - the government. We will get what we are allowed to get by our elitist betters.

OP nails it, we spend more on "the poor" than we do on ourselves. Medicaid, welfare, EBT, SNAP, free meals for children, housing subsidies, free college, hundreds of free programs. Maybe we should study why they are poor, laziness, helplessness, lack of opportunities, inferior education? Let's fix that. Let's stop allowing all of these giveaways that are not for reasons of compassion but for vote buying. Put them to work, there are help-wanted signs hanging everywhere. Democrats did this. I'm sure this hospital received millions of dollars in windfall or dishonest COVID funds, as did many others, let them use that to offset their losses. Charity is one thing, government extortion is quite another.

Shocking photos show President Biden’s border crisis has hit a new peak in El Paso, Texas—where a historic flood of migrants has turned the city into what a local pol says resembles “a third-world country.” Regional Border Patrol Chief Gloria Chavez posted snapshots Monday night on Instagram that showed hordes of migrants dumped under an El Paso bridge over the weekend because the city has no more room to even process them. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” said outraged US Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), whose district covers part of the city, as El Paso began grappling with its highest daily influx ever last month.
