Oberlin finally paying the $36.59 million
it owes to Gibson’s Bakery

After years of legal wrangling, Oberlin College has announced that, following the Ohio Supreme Court’s decision not to hear its appeal, it is beginning the process of paying in full the judgment against it for libeling Gibson’s Bakery and promoting a boycott. William A. Jacobson of Legal Insurrection, which has covered the case more closely than any other media outlet, announced the happy news: [Snip] Oberlin’s endowment reportedly is in the neighborhood of a billion dollars, so this sum--the original judgment plus interest, while painful, is not about to bankrupt it.

Comments:

Mrs. Lorna Gibson recently provided an insight into the continuing anguish being endured by the Gibson family by revealing Oberlin College freshmen are still told to boycott the store and parents tell her that kids have been brainwashed to “hate us.” It seems if there is to be any “healing” between the college and the Gibson family, the departure of Oberlin College President Carmen Twillie Ambar would be appropriate. Former Vice-President and Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo is now at Oglethorpe University in Georgia.

They didn't right tooth and nail to avoid paying because they'd go out of business. They fought because they honestly believe their own nonsense and are full of hate and we're upset they'd been proven to be garbage people in court. The money is just proof they're garbage. They'd have fought just as hard if it was $5.

When the Gibsons get the check, then I'll believe that Oberlin paid up. Like we say in the selling business, the sale isn't made when the customer signs on the dotted line, it's when the customer pays the money.

The initial issue - shoplifting by black students - is not unique to Oberlin. The same problem existed at my university and too often, the merchants just ate the loss, because it was the easiest path to take. And the black students knew that.

We had a saying about people who bragged about how rich they were when it came time to pay up. They had deep pockets but short arms. It's time for a sheriff's auction for all Oberlin assets.

I have to say that if paying the $36 million judgment closed down Oberlin College, the loss of that college would not have been noticed. They brought all this vitriol on themselves with their odious fight to not pay and to break the Gibson family. I have been with the Gibsons since the first time I read the story right here on Lucianne.com.

Love it! Oberlin spent millions of dollars on lawyers and had to pay the millions of dollars judgement against them anyway! They would have saved money if they'd done the right thing from the start. But when are woke leftists known to do that?

The PEOPLE at Oberlin.... the administrators, as well as the student 'organizers' who slandered the Gibsons..... should be made to pay a significant portion of the damages. The university 'corporation' paying is, to the perps, just meaningless numbers in a ledger. The Leftists will not be deterred until they PERSONALLY have to pay enough that they 'feel it', and 'feel it' good and hard.

OBERLIN - The crowd milling around outside Gibson’s Bakery at midday Wednesday wasn’t there to protest. It was there to spend, spend, spend in hopes of keeping the 137-year-old business alive. “We didn’t want people to think we were demonstrating or rallying or anything like that,” said Mike Bokulich, a Navy veteran and founding member of the Lunch Bunch. In the past two years, the group has traveled to more than 90 restaurants around Lorain County and just outside its borders.[Snip]“We want to help Allyn and his mother. They’re slaving up there in the bakery…sweating like mad, trying to keep the business afloat,” Bokulich said.

A federal judge in Florida has granted Donald Trump's request to have a special master review the documents seized during the raid on Mar-a-Lago – granting a key demand of the former president and tapping the breaks on the government's investigation. Oberlin College was shocked when it found out the Catholic-run health agency it chose to outsource for student health services is…Catholic. It’s always Oberlin College. Why is it always Oberlin College!? The Catholic Church urges natural family planning (which, after the experience, is relatively easy!) instead of artificial birth control. That includes birth control pills and tubal ligation (tying the fallopian tubes to stop ovulation).(Snip)...I find it impossible for people not to know the Church’s teaching on abortion, artificial birth control, sex, pregnancy, and gender.(Snip)NPR and Oberlin College ruin their argument by including the “workaround” portion in the article.
