A king is born to the rank. His wife becomes queen by marriage. There is never ever a king consort which is why Philip was created a Duke and eventually a Prince. A queen can never have a king consort because a king outranks a queen and that's never allowed to happen.

Camilla's family has a multi- generational tradition of being royal mistresses ( whores someone inclined to be less elegant might say). Having said that, Camilla has worked hard to gain the people's favor and she might be a steadying influence on Charlie.

Queen consort basically translates as "Mrs. King", reply #2 has the explanation. Comes with the package. We used to refer to married women by their husband's name, i.e. : Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton". Still correct, and I'd use it to just to bug her.

Perhaps I missed it in the article but Queen Elizabeth’s mother was the Queen of England. Diana, had she lived and not walked out of the marriage, would be Queen of England now. The reason that Camilla can’t be queen is because she had a prior marriage.

OP - Prince Philip was 99 when he passed and the Queen 96. Charles

# 6 No. It has to do with birth. Charles ( like him or not ) was born a prince. Elizabeth's mother was NOT the Queen of England. She was Queen Elizabeth , the Queen consort of George VI. George was the King of England . Re Camilla , divorce has nothing to to with rank. Re Diana , she would have been a queen consort, NOT the queen of England

So will Camilla eventually be known as the "Queen Mum" or the "Queen Step Mum?"

Complicated(potentially) further by "Morganatic Marriages", where succession is not passed on to the progeny. But the existing brothers/sisters/cousins,nephews/nieces etc of a departed Ruler. Such created the House of Mounbattan, The children from Napolean the 1st wife's subsequent marriages, several Sicilian houses, Russian and Holy Roman Empire houses, Swedish houses...not only when they have married commoners, but also due to marrying lesser nobility. It doesn't mean the power left the "Family", because many were closely interbred Hapsburgs, Midicis, Bourbons,Stuarts etc to begin with and thus the goal of the Titles stayed in the "Family".

AND....Regents....where people who cannot actually inherit the crowns, still "Rule" because the child who one day will wear the crown is too young, and the Regent acts in their stead as "Protector"

Don't agree at all #3. If she really had cared about Charles, she would not have been insinuating herself between Charles and Diana. Like Diana said, it was a crowded marriage. He needs to grow up and she needed to just get out of town. IIRC some conversations I had in the past with British citizens, her being queen consort might not be all that certain if Parliament decides to have a say. Their opinion carries a lot of weight in the succession.

Someone should tell Ms. Ashlyn Messier that when speaking of royal persons the word is not coronate/coronated, but rather just the simple word CROWN/CROWNED. Coronate is a word used mainly in science and by ignorant writers trying to appear intelligent. Ashlyn, you totally failed on this one.

Ashlyn needs to do a bit of fact checking. Elizabeth became queen on her father’s death on 2/6/52. Her coronation did not take place until 6/2/53.

Camilla is the wife of King Charles. Like it or not. At their public marriage they asked for forgiveness for their sins. Does anyone here have sons or daughters who failed their wedding vows? Did you ostracize them?

QEII knew it was best to just accept reality and give Camilla the title. Since Charles is already age 73, she won't be on the throne for too long.
