Authorities in California extended a “Flex Alert” telling residents to conserve energy, including not charging their electric vehicles, on Sunday afternoon and evening.
The alert has been in effect for several days in the midst of a heat wave that is slated to last through Labor Day.
The California Independent System Operator, the manager of the state’s power grid, issued the statewide Flex Alert from 4 to 9 p.m. Residents are urged to set their thermostats to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, avoid using major appliances, avoid charging electric vehicles, and turning off unnecessary lights.

I doubt many pay any attention and those that have an e-car are already all in on the whole thing anyway. Until the power goes off few will make any changes to their power usage.

LOL!
"You MUST get rid of normal cars and buy expensive, fire prone EVs......but don't you dare try to charge those batteries!"
Hilarious.

Maybe a "flex alert" should be placed on that dictat by the automotive-engineer geniuses in the California legislature for all-electric cars by 2035.
Where are the new power plants to meet the demand for electricty? Electricity doesn't just come out of the wall, ya know.

California is going to be suffering power blackouts for years to come with or without EVs. State incompetence combined with the green fascists and overregulation has their grid hanging by a thread now.

The forced move to only electric vehicles by the Kalifornia Commiecrats will be a perfect storm. Now people still have their freedom and mobility but with only electric vehicles the state will tell you when you can drive, when you can charge and basically control your every movement. It's a communist's dream scenario.

Wouldn’t it be more ecologically friendly just to have a diktat forbidding the use of gasoline?
Why bother to manufacture electric cars ? Skip that step and forbid travel by private vehicle (except for the Very Important Elite and their Pettit Bureaucrats).

Normal people can see the utter absurdity -- but Newsom, et al will just double down and triple down, citing this as proof that we need to do more to advance green energy. No matter how many times logic and cold hard facts slap them in the face, they just go on with their fantasy world.

I saw a good joke about EV's yesterday. It said, "97% of the EV's manufactured are still on the road, the other 3% made it home!"

Good thing they have banned gas vehicles. They are already banning construction of new gas stations so things are really looking up. No gas no electricity no problem.

Time to fire up some coal fired plants to provide the needed electricity. Coming to a town near you. Since bikers are verboten in the US, that leaves coal & natural gas as the obvious backups to keep the grid working uninterrupted. Then you have EV’s being charged using fosssil fuels. Ain’t the Gov smart? Why didn’t we think of this?

This is what's coming nationwide if we don't put a stop to it. No gas-driven cars, plus no charging for unaffordable EVs, equals an end to our freedom of mobility. And our would-be masters DON'T CARE!

Tomorrow may be Gov. Greasy's bête noire. The holiday will be over, everyone going back to work, and temps will be at their highest. Many businesses cannot readily cut energy consumption so a blackout is possible.

Practice what you preach. All state employees, including the governor, must drive EV’s now. No exceptions.

This would certainly entice me to buy an electric vehicle! And wouldn't you want to use the car's air conditioning during a heatwave? That will deplete the battery faster.

The same idiots mandating electric vehicles by 2035 are demanding you don't charge the ones you have because their electric grid can't handle it.
These by the way are the same idiots that plan to demolish four hydroelectric dams to help fish.
The level of stupid on the Left is just staggering.

103 degrees in the foothills of San Diego County, the power just went out, and now there's a fire upwind of where I'm sitting. At least I can still legally use my gas-powered portable generator - for a few more years, anyway.
