A Chevrolet Volt owner in Florida was shocked to receive a $30,000 quote for a replacement battery from a dealership, reports CarScoops. The quote in question comes from Roger Dean Chevrolet in Florida, and regards a battery replacement for a 2012 Chevrolet Bolt. The cost of the new battery itself comes in at $26,853.99. Further charges include $33.98 for coolant and $1,200 in labor. Add tax and the total bill comes to $30,842.15. It's a steep price, particularly when a brand-new Chevrolet Bolt with a far larger battery can be had for a base price of $26,595. The enormous figure
Yet another story about battery replacement. Maybe, it's starting.

The art.icle interchangeably refers to the Chevy Volt and Chevy Bolt. These are two distinct vehicles with grossly dissimilar batteries. The first is a short electric range hybrid like the Toyota Prius, the second is a pure electric vehicle with a much larger and more expensive battery

I'm pretty sure neither is $10k, also.
Anyway, buy it, use it for 7-8 years, trade it in or sell it.

Sounds like a wonderful idea to replace my beloved Dodge Charger. I wouldn’t have an EV if they gave it to me. And if they really make the 2024 Charger an EV, goodbye Dodge.

Cool. Democrats invent the one and done car. They eliminate all those cheesy used car dealers. Nice! Gonna make the gas powered used car market look like a new Lexus deal.

My 2004 Lincoln Town Car, 2004 Toyota Camry and 2000 Honda Accord are all still going strong. None of them use any oil and I bought all of them for less than 10 grand combined.
Biden really thinks he'll talk me into buying a 60 grand electric car that I can't use to pull a boat or go on vacation?

I'm pretty sure that this is the same story I heard a few weeks ago. The back story is that a young girl wanted to buy a new car but wouldn't hear of buying anything but an EV. Her parents bought the 2012 Chevy What-ever for $10K for their daughter as a gift. After four months the car stopped working and it was determined the the battery needed replacement. The quote was exactly as stated in the article. They tried to sell the car back to the dealer but were offered only a few thousand for it. Hopefully the kid learned a lesson about believing everything the Loony Left spews out. There is ALWAYS a catch and the average Joe always get the short end of the stick.

A shot battery is a dead car, junk it.
Batteries don't last all that long, either.

Re #2. As I understand the Chevy Volt, it is a series hybrid, where the Prius is a parallel hybrid. Thd Prius has two parallel paths for power to flow to the wheels. The Volt has the generator-battery-electric motor-wheels in series.
The difference may seem to be minor, but is not. The Prius has a path for the engine to drive the wheels like a normal gas car, and with the engine off, can be a short range pure electric drive. A jubk battery in a Prius and you can still use it just fine as a gas only car.
The Volt only drives the wheels with an electric motor, there is no transmission to take engine power to the wheels.
The engine can ONLY charge the battery.
Think of the Volt as a pure electric with an onboard gasoline powered generator much like the ones that a person can use to power a refrigerator and lights in a power outage. No or junk battery...Volt can't drive.

Anybody buying a pure electric is a fool. Maybe thirty years from now when technology will give you 500 miles on an EV and a 15 minute full charge these things might be feasible. I own a small cabin in a little lake house community. All of us have golf carts that we travel around in and have a cocktail or two. Very nice but you have to keep them charged up. What might make EVs feasible is a break through on battery technology. Look up lithium mining and it will bring tears to your eyes. These green nitwits are the most villainous people on the planet.

How about 'Lemon Law'. Unless the damage was from an accident, it should be covered. And in and accident, if one of those cars needs a battery replaced, then the car should be 'Totaled'.
That is unless the insurance companies have changed their policies.

Joey & his enabling demonrats want to push EVs to bankrupt everyone in the country. Either that, or prevent anyone from forever owning a car.

Yep, it's the OEM's dream: the disposable car. You will own it as long as we say, then be forced to buy another.
