A plan to save migratory salmon by demolishing four hydroelectric dams on California’s Klamath River got backing from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Friday. FERC released the final version of the environmental impact statement evaluating the dam demolition plan. FERC commissioners will vote on whether or not to implement the plan later this year. The dam’s operators filed an application to surrender the Lower Klamath Hydroelectric Project on Nov. 17, 2020. The project rests on 400 acres of federal land in Oregon and California, and consists of the Copco 1, Copco 2, Iron Gate, and J.C. Wild salmon, like free-range chickens, are not bred in cages or hatcheries. Environmentalists argue that farmed salmon is more likely to contain traces of pesticides, but all rivers and streams consist of aggregated runoff, not all pristine, but also not hazardous. The salmon harvest in Alaska is the largest in North America and represents about 80% of the total wild-caught catch, with harvests from Canada and the Pacific Northwest representing the remainder. The most valuable salmon fisheries are in the Bristol Bay, Prince William Sound, and Southeast regions.

First and foremost they want the farmers off the land. This is a war against independent people. That is why they can be hypocrites about their hydro power in favor of their salmon. A few years ago the "Save the Eel River" folks even had a salmon dinner fund raiser and not one person raised an objection.

As a lifelong trout fisherman (and most of the other fish) I generally prefer free-flowing rivers. On the other side of that is that the impoundment behind the dams helps wildlife and boost recreation opportunities. I live in Georgia. The cold water coming from Lake Lanier's Buford Dam has also created miles of trout water in the Chattahoochee River. You can fish for trout within the city limits of Atlanta. There is always a cost to benefit ratio to consider. However, that doesn't matter to the left. They go full speed ahead and never consider the consequences. Take out Buford Dam and half the City of Atlanta goes dark.

FTA: “PacifiCorp would likely have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to retrofit the structures to comply with today’s environmental laws." So, here's the process. You create some new "environmental laws" which do many things. One is drive factories out of business, so they move to Mexico and China which have no such "environmantal laws". An added benefit from the ecocrazy destroyer of all things viewpoint is that a perfectly good hydroelectric dam which has been making electrical power and stopping flooding for three quarters of a century will be forced to spend hundreds of millions to upgrade a PERFECTLY FINE hydroelectric system to the modern nutball "environmental standards". So, they just give up, and the ecocrazies blow up the dams. And....progress is reversed by the "progressives" and we slip back towards more and more freezing in the dark and farther away from a nice, comfortable future.

Salmon have an individual memory not a collective memory: each one goes back up the river it was spawned from. They might have once gone up that Klamath River, but they won't just because they can. They will go up the river they came from .... ONLY. They haven't used the Klamath River in generations.
