Back to School in DeSantis' Florida, as
Teachers Look Over Their Shoulders

Erin Brown, a teacher in St. Johns County, Florida, typically keeps a gay pride flag hanging up in her classroom. As the faculty sponsor of a Gay-Straight Alliance club at her high school, she wants her students to know they are safe with her. This year, Brown found herself quietly repurposing the flag. No longer on full display, it now hangs as a “rainbow background,” partially obscured among posters, photos, a calendar and other trinkets on her class bulletin board. The change is emblematic of the fear, uncertainty and confusion many educators in Florida say they are feeling this school

Comments:

How dense are these people? Flying a rainbow flag in your classroom is not appropriate or what parents want for their children.

Here’s a novel idea, teachers. Why not concentrate on teaching subjects that prepare the students for getting a good job, and shut up about the gay, lesbian nonsense.

Count on the New York Times to overdramatize the situation. Most teachers are focused on their classes and all the political buzz will be well in the background for them.

There should be no fear or uncertainty for school teachers. Do not bring your sex life into the classroom. Do not discuss sex with my child. Teach the topic you were hired to teach and it better be a traditional one like math, reading, history, etc and not gender and race studies. That's it! Very clear and you're very safe!

Oh, puhleaze…school is for teaching children to gain the knowledge needed to prepare themselves to make a life in this world. Whether it is to prepare for higher education, or to learn a trade through an apprenticeship program, it should be a safe environment and not one filled with all kinds of sexual confusion. Leave that for elsewhere. If libs are so insistent upon shoving the LGBTQ+ agenda down the throats of students, then let them start liberal private schools and then they will get no hassle from anyone. Conservative or traditional minded people for decades have built private schools with the purpose of teaching their values to their children. It should be the same for sexually liberal parents. Build your own schools to teach your values, but do not think you can bring your liberal garbage into public schools. Tax payer schools should be a place of safety away from liberal indoctrination. If libs don’t agree with that, there is something they can do. No tax payer should be asked to send their child to a school where there is a sexually charged atmosphere that caters to alternative lifestyles. The reason we don’t hear of a liberal private schools is because it is part of their agenda to indoctrinate as many children into an alternative sexuality as possible. You can’t do that unless you have access. It’s time to cut off that access. Libs have plenty of money, to fund this blatant indoctrination, but notice they never want to use it. They prefer to have the rest of us to fund and celebrate, I might add, their grooming facilities. Enough. They should spend their own money just as religious and conservatives have had to do, but keep this garbage out of public schools.

Gov. DeSantis has put his program out for all to see and understand. If the Teachers in this State can't do their Job, according to the NEW Rules, they should look for a Teaching position in a Blue state where they can teach all the Trash they want with no fear at all! DeSantis is fearless. The Left will try to use this against him, but the Right loves what he's doing and they are the ones who VOTE! I will proudly vote for him again! Schools in general should have only one flag in each classroom. The American flag. Also, there is no need to have a gay club in any school. These days, anyone who is gay is pretty much out in the open. What exactly do members of this gay club do on school property, and if this teacher is so worried about the safety of her gay students, shouldn't being a member of a gay club be dangerous to those members?

In the transition from gas-powered vehicles to electric, the fuel every automaker is after these days is cold hard cash. Established automakers and startups alike are rolling out new battery-powered models in an effort to meet growing demand. Ramping up production of a new model was already a fraught and expensive process, but rising material costs and tricky regulations for federal incentives are squeezing coffers even further. Prices of the raw materials used in many electric-vehicle batteries — lithium, nickel and cobalt — have soared over the last two years as demand has skyrocketed, and it may be several years before miners

It is illegal for New Yorkers under age 21 to purchase a can of whipped cream, according to recently-passed state law. The law, which went into effect in November 2021, is meant to prevent teenagers from using canned whipped cream to inhale nitrous oxide, otherwise known as "whippets." "Inhalants are invisible, volatile substances found in common household products that produce chemical vapors that are inhaled to induce psychoactive or mind-altering effects," according to a US Drug Enforcement Administration factsheet. Approximately 1 in 5 young people have used inhalants like whippits by the time they reach eighth grade, the DEA said.

Other universities across the country appear to only have online portals, or other methods, in place for lodging complaints under their own bias response systems. Critics, however, claim
