Security guards at several high-end stores in the West Village and Soho say they feel like sitting ducks as thieves loot their stores in broad daylight with no consequences. The two NYC nabes—and their high-end shops—have become a target for enterprising robbers, like the group of seven men and women who sauntered into the Lululemon store on 14th Street and 9th Avenue around noon on Aug. 16 and made off with close to $30,000 in stolen goods. The gang grabbed clothing and other gear and stuffed them into large sacks and a shopping cart, walking nonchalantly by a security guard who appeared on video to do nothing

Washington—Pfizer’s COVID-19 pill appears to provide little or no benefit for younger adults, while still reducing the risk of hospitalization and death for high-risk seniors, according to a large study published Wednesday. The results from a 109,000-patient Israeli study are likely to renew questions about the U.S. government’s use of Paxlovid, which has become the go-to treatment for COVID-19 due to its at-home convenience. The Biden administration has spent more than $10 billion purchasing the drug and making it available at thousands of pharmacies through its test-and-treat initiative.(Snip)But people between the ages of 40 and 65 saw no measurable benefit,

The United States is facing a looming crisis of utility shutoffs, with a record number of households falling behind on their power bills, industry observers and experts say. About 20 million US households, or one out of six homes, are behind on their utility bills, the most on record, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (Neada). 'I expect a tsunami of shutoffs,' Jean Su, a senior attorney at the non-profit Center for Biological Diversity, which tracks the power industry, told Bloomberg this week. Electricity prices have soared due to rising costs for natural gas, which has skyrocketed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed how the platform used an algorithm to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story when it first surfaced in 2020. During Thursday's Joe Rogan Experience Zuckerberg addressed the issue of media censorship and was asked by Rogan how Facebook handles controversial news topics. Zuckerberg explained how although the platform did not completely block the story like Twitter, it was still pushed down users newsfeeds for as long as a week until more information came down that would indicate whether the story was true or not.(Snip)Basically the background here is the FBI, I think basically came to us—some folks on our team and was like,

The devastation along Lake Street in Minneapolis that followed George Floyd's murder in 2020 has attracted millions of dollars of public and private money to rebuild the distinctive urban corridor.
But U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was in town Thursday to reinforce the role that public transit plays in the rebuilding. And he pointed to the federal government's $12 million grant to help Hennepin County upgrade the thoroughfare and prepare it for a new arterial bus rapid transit route called the B Line that will debut in 2024. "So much of life and vibrancy of this corridor is the small business community," Buttigieg said, standing outside the Mercado Central marketplace

Prince Harry was spotted arriving for a flight on a private jet to set off for a one-day polo match—before the aircraft sat idling on the tarmac for at least 30 minutes as it waited for his staff to arrive in a gas-guzzling SUV to drop off his polo kit. The Duke of Sussex boarded the $9million Bombardier Challenger 600 at a Santa Barbara airport around 11am on Wednesday to head to the event in Aspen to compete in a round robin tournament. Harry, who regularly preaches his views about the 'climate crisis' hitting the world, arrived at the airport close to his $14million Montecito

Self-proclaimed “Top Gov” Ron DeSantis has issued a bizarre threat against White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci. “I’m just sick of seeing him! I know he says he’s gonna retire,” the Florida governor said Wednesday to a cheering audience on his “Keep Florida Free Tour.” “Someone needs to grab that little elf and chuck him across the Potomac.” Brooklyn-born Fauci, who at 5-foot-7 is just two inches shorter than DeSantis’ listed height, announced Monday that he will be stepping down as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in December.(Snip)As DeSantis has spent the COVID-19 pandemic ignoring and banning medical

Red China is red-hot, with a heat wave accompanied by a drought drying up the Yangtze River, crippling hydroelectric power in Sichuan province and the neighboring municipality of Chongqing.
The water level of the Yangtze has fallen to its lowest levels since record-keeping began in 1865, according to Bloomberg. “The output of hydropower units has been seriously affected, and the power load in some provinces has grown rapidly. During the peak period of power consumption, demand-side management and orderly power consumption measures need to be taken,” read a statement from China’s National Energy Administration.(Snip)“80% of Sichuan’s power supply comes from hydropower.

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) voted for a coronavirus stimulus package that handed $75,000 to a social justice group his church founded. The group, the Martin Luther King Sr. Collaborative, is run by the church, which compensates Warnock $120,000, according to the Washington Free Beacon. The money flowing to the Martin Luther King Sr. Collaborative raises questions about whether Warnock personally benefited from the American Rescue Plan while taxpayers shouldered the $1.9 trillion price of the bill that likely fueled 40-year-high inflation. From 2016 to at least 2020, Warnock was the CEO of Martin Luther King Sr. Collaborative, which was founded by the Ebenezer Baptist Church,
