In an ugly and remarkably authoritarian speech almost a year ago, Joe Biden declared that his “patience” was “wearing thin” with a “distinct minority” of Americans who refused the COVID vaccine. (snip) the start of a cruel and gratuitous attack on millions of Americans. While Biden has since moved on to other scapegoats, his campaign of hatred against the unvaccinated should not be forgotten.
The “scientific” pretext of Biden’s war on the unvaccinated was like something out of a pre-genocidal radio broadcast. The unvaccinated were likened to filthy plague carriers recklessly and selfishly harming others. Biden and others in his administration declared COVID a “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”

Nice precedent Joe Biden. Way to go Attorney General Merrick Garland. You guys, along with your sychophants, are transforming America from Reagan’s City of Light on a Hill into a Third World autocracy. Murderers, rapists and pedophiles get the kid glove treatment while supporters of Donald Trump, who “trespassed” on to the grounds of the U.S. Capitol (the ironically named People’s house), are denied habeus corpus and left to rot in jail. To hell with the rule of law. The United States now is in the grasp of political partisans who use the law and the police to pursue their own special interests and to punish their political opponents.

Note, first of all, that I didn’t write “disturbing”—just disturbing. It really is. I think McCarthy is right, and someone needs to get to the bottom of it. At this juncture, the only people who could do that would be in the judiciary, if Trump should challenge the warrant—but I’m not sure how that could be done. The question comes down to a simple binary—yes or no:So here’s Andy’s argument—follow the link for the entire article which is totally worth reading:

The nurse accused of killing five people last week when her Mercedes plowed into traffic at a busy Windsor Hills intersection had been involved in 13 previous crashes, Los Angeles County prosecutors alleged Monday in charging her with murder.
Authorities revealed new details about Thursday's crash and about the driver, Nicole Lorraine Linton, 37, whose permanent address is in Texas and who is currently renting a room in Los Angeles while working as a traveling registered nurse.
Prosecutors said they are reviewing multiple previous crashes linked to Linton — both in and out of California — including one in 2020 that involved bodily injury in which two cars were .

I saw references to Bruce Reinhart last night, and the fact that he had previously defended Jeffrey Epstein (who didn’t kill himself). Commenter ML has also drawn attention to the matter. Technically, that’s not legally relevant—everyone is entitled to legal representation. The ethics of a defense lawyer should be judged by the quality of his representation, rather than the identity of his client. However …

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors this week voted to add a November 2022 ballot measure that would allow the county to secede from California.
The measure, which was voted on 4–0 by the supervisors Wednesday, would ask San Bernardino residents: “Do the citizens of San Bernardino County want the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to study all options to obtain its fair share of state and federal resources, up to and including secession?”
“Now, that last line is the most controversial,” said Supervisor Curt Hagman during Wednesday’s meeting about the proposal. “It’s a question we’re going to put to our residents. Do they want to include all options

Following months of Biden administration shuttle diplomacy, multi-national U.S.-bound immigrants from more than 150 countries are now finding international routes to the southern border faster, easier, and less obstructed than ever before.
Panama has dramatically shortened the notorious Darien Gap route from South America for the first time. Mexico has amended a years-old policy of using a national guard road blockade to slow U.S.-bound immigrants on its Guatemala border for one that now immediately hands out fast-pass visas straight to the American border.
Taken altogether, the new relative ease, safety, and swiftness of global journeys to the U.S. southern border should induce even greater numbers of foreign nationals

George Stephanopoulos has a new hero not named Obama. Skipping both the red and blue pills in favor of Xanax and whiskey, a visually verklempt Stephanopoulos uses Dick Cheney as the introduction to the 2022 midterm election victory map. The last 3 seconds of this clip are funny as heck.
Pay no attention to the 67% of Americans who say things are getting even worse, and instead let’s cheer Dick Cheney and baby killing, after all – they are weirdly connected in a way. Thus, George has figured the new DNC strategy. Brilliant.

Reminder, Nikki Haley in February 2021: …”“I don’t think [Trump’s] going to be in the picture,” she said, matter-of-factly. “I don’t think he can. He’s fallen so far.” […] “We need to acknowledge he let us down,” she said. “He went down a path he shouldn’t have, (snip)CTH has been warning about Nikki Haley ever since she asked Sarah Palin to help her win the South Carolina Governor’s race, and then stabbed Palin in the back with the most derisive negative commentary thereafter. Nikki Haley would never have been governor without Sarah Palin; those who know politics know this is absolutely true…. And Haley is a snake.

The Queensland state government will shutter a $223 million (US$154.6 million) COVID-19 quarantine facility in Wellcamp, west of Toowoomba, just six months after it was opened.
In the same announcement, Deputy Premier Steven Miles said another multi-million dollar, federal government-funded quarantine facility in Pinkenba, Brisbane—due to be finalised in a few weeks—would not be opened.
On July 27, Miles announced that the state would not continue leasing the Wellcamp-based Queensland Regional Accommodation Centre until Aug. 1.
Wellcamp is about 144 kilometres west of Brisbane, the state capital, while the federally funded $350 million, 800-bed Pinkenba facility is adjacent to the Brisbane Airport and cruise ship terminal.

When Tulare resident Quentin Nelms heard California was offering a hefty state subsidy to help lower-income residents buy electric cars, he applied right away.
But it wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be.
Nelms spent four months on a waitlist before he was accepted into one of the state’s clean-car incentive programs in January. He qualified for $9,500 that he planned to use to buy a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. But after discovering that several dealerships had raised the car’s price by more than $10,000 during the time it took to get the grant, he could no longer afford the roughly $53,000 cost.

A month ago, Axios reported, "Trust in news collapses to historic low."
Trust in newspapers was at 16%. Trust in TV news was at 11%. Both mediums lost trust by having too much opinion and not enough facts. People do not trust the facts given by opinionators, especially opinionators with whom they disagree.
That loss of trust leads to drops in circulation and viewership. (snip)As the drill sergeant said in basic training, opinions are like a certain orifice. Everyone has one. Most of them stink.
The quickest way to salvation -- to convincing people that you are a trustworthy source of news -- is to get rid of the opinions.
