McDonalds has announced they are dropping their program testing plant-based meats because people didn’t like it. As noted by the Washington Times, “other trials at Panda Express and Yum! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut) have also ended without a subsequent product launch. Beyond Meat products at Dunkin’, Hardee’s, and A&W have been discontinued after launching.” Apparently, American consumers do not want to eat fake meat; at least not fake meat made from plants.

Why even try to call it meat? It's not meat call it a veggieburger . It might sell as such, but trying to fool people into thinking it will taste and texture as meat is a lie. Most people will not buy a lie.

Many years ago a friend who lived in Mexico City introduced me to deep fried crickets at the wonderful Restaurante Prendes, that was for more than a hundred years in the historic center district of Mexico City. A hangout for the very top government officials and businessmen in Mexico City, it and its waiters reminded me of the Tadich Grill in San Francisco. The restaurant was wonderful; the crickets, forgettqble. Prendes is now in an upscale neighborhood, has entertainmeny, etc. Trendy. A shame.

Old story about the president of the dog food company criticizing his sales force for not selling their new dog food product. He has a can in his hand and shouts that their new dog food is the most attractively priced, most nutritious, nicely packaged dog food on the market, etc, etc then yells to the salesmen, “why can’t we sell it?!!”. One old salesman in the back stands up says, “because the damned dogs don’t like it”. I assume that this the reason McD’s dropped the product. It didn’t taste good and the damned customers didn’t like it.

The Queensland state government will shutter a $223 million (US$154.6 million) COVID-19 quarantine facility in Wellcamp, west of Toowoomba, just six months after it was opened. In the same announcement, Deputy Premier Steven Miles said another multi-million dollar, federal government-funded quarantine facility in Pinkenba, Brisbane—due to be finalised in a few weeks—would not be opened. On July 27, Miles announced that the state would not continue leasing the Wellcamp-based Queensland Regional Accommodation Centre until Aug. 1. Wellcamp is about 144 kilometres west of Brisbane, the state capital, while the federally funded $350 million, 800-bed Pinkenba facility is adjacent to the Brisbane Airport and cruise ship terminal.

When Tulare resident Quentin Nelms heard California was offering a hefty state subsidy to help lower-income residents buy electric cars, he applied right away. But it wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. Nelms spent four months on a waitlist before he was accepted into one of the state’s clean-car incentive programs in January. He qualified for $9,500 that he planned to use to buy a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. But after discovering that several dealerships had raised the car’s price by more than $10,000 during the time it took to get the grant, he could no longer afford the roughly $53,000 cost.

A month ago, Axios reported, "Trust in news collapses to historic low." Trust in newspapers was at 16%. Trust in TV news was at 11%. Both mediums lost trust by having too much opinion and not enough facts. People do not trust the facts given by opinionators, especially opinionators with whom they disagree. That loss of trust leads to drops in circulation and viewership. (snip)As the drill sergeant said in basic training, opinions are like a certain orifice. Everyone has one. Most of them stink. President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats are trying to reinstate the federal assault weapon ban that was in effect for 10 years because—they claim—it reduced gun crime. The bill, which just passed the House, will soon get a vote in the Senate. In the effort to get it passed, Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made some grand claims, which they called “facts,” about the previous ban on rifles leading to decreasing crime. But those facts don’t appear to be backed up by evidence.(snip)rifle homicides dropped to 3.6 percent after the ban expired in 2004.
