There are a lot of red faces at the New York Times this morning. On second thought, it’s an open question whether anyone on the Times editorial board is capable of the kind of introspection necessary to feel that emotion. Nevertheless, the terrorist leader and planner of the 9/11 attacks is dead, killed in a house belonging to a notorious Afghan terrorist responsible for killing or wounding dozens of American soldiers. Sirajuddin Haqqani is the son of the founder of the Haqqani network, a family known for its terrorist activities and extortion plots

A little collateral damage never hurt anybody. Well, okay, yes it does. The Taliban are still well ahead of Joe with the hundreds of victims and the mountain of military gear he left them. What's one terrorist dirtbag more or less?

I guess the White House is not going to address the fact that there are posts saying al Zawahiri died from asthma in November 2020? Who to believe? If Diapers said the sun was shining, I would go to the door just to make sure myself. He lies.

So, Sirajuddin Haqqani, a NY Slimes contributor, was giving safe harbor to al-Zawahiri. This was edited out of the Slimes reporting. Did the Slimes know that al-Zawahiri was in Kabul all along? Did the slimes know that its contributor was guesting al-Zawahiri? OK Slimes, come clean. What was your role in the Haggani network?

It's too bad the 9-11 terrorists didn't aim one of those planes at the NY Times building. Now that there's some question about whether one of the NYT's "contributors" might have outed Zawahiri's location, perhaps they'll consider the NYT as one of their future targets. Thanks in advance if they do.

US readies $1bn weapons package for Ukraine: Report 16 replies

The United States is preparing a new $1bn security assistance package for Ukraine, which will include munitions for long-range weapons and armoured medical transport vehicles, according the Reuters news agency. The package would be one of the largest so far and is expected to be announced as early as Monday, three sources briefed on the matter told Reuters. The US has given about $8.8bn in aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion on February 24. The officials, speaking to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, said that President Joe Biden had not yet signed the next weapons package, and cautioned that weapons packages can change in value and content before they are signed.

Barr said, “I think it definitely is a significant event. It changes my view of what’s been going on. U.S. conspiracy theorist Alex Jones must pay the parents of a 6-year-old boy killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre $45.2 million in punitive damages - on top of $4.1 million in compensatory damages already awarded - for falsely claiming the shooting was a hoax, a Texas jury decided on Friday. Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, separated parents of slain 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, testified that followers of Jones harassed them and sent them death threats for years in the false belief that they were lying about their son's death in the Dec. 14, 2012, shooting that killed 20 children and six staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Republicans lead Democrats on the generic congressional ballot by three points, two points lower than the previous week and seven points lower than the week before that, a Rasmussen Reports poll released Friday showed. While the Republicans look to retake control of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections — which are only 95 days away — after being in the minority for roughly four years, the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey showed that 46 percent of likely U.S. voters would elect a Republican, compared to the 43 percent who said they would vote for a Democrat. Thus the Republicans only have a three-point lead, which is two points less

A new Morning Consult Poll shows voters beginning to regain some trust in Democrats on some issues. On topics such as health care, voting rights, COVID-19, energy, and guns Democrats have increased their lead on the question of “Who do you trust” on a particular issue. According to the poll, “Congressional Democrats have an average advantage of 6 percentage points (45% to 39%) over congressional Republicans when voters are asked who they trust to handle a range of 14 issues. That edge has steadily increased since early April, when the two parties were essentially tied on the question.” In truth, all of those issues above are overwhelmed

When WNBA star Brittney Griner was convicted on drug charges Thursday, she was not merely sentenced to nine years in a normal jail or prison. She was given time in a Russian penal colony, which is quite different than a normal correctional facility. Russia's penal colonies are descendants of the notorious Soviet-era gulags where prisoners have been subjected to harsh treatment and poor conditions. Prisoners in the system have been beaten by other inmates, endured torture and forced to watch Russian propaganda for hours every day in what's known as "awareness raising." Following several days of Griner's trial, which stemmed
