After a tight race, incumbent Representative Peter Meijer lost to Trump loyalist John Gibbs in Michigan’s GOP primary contest for the state’s third congressional district on Tuesday.Gibbs garnered 53 percent of the vote to Meijer’s 47 percent as of around midnight on Wednesday, ABC News reported.
The race tested the power of former president Trump’s endorsement, which Gibbs secured after embracing the MAGA platform and backing the theories that the 2020 election was “stolen.”
“John Gibbs is a fabulous talent who loves the State, our Military, and our Vets. He will always protect our Second Amendment, our Southern Border, and the Police—there will be no defunding with John!,” Trump said of Gibbs.

This is HUGE. Winning against incumbents is very difficult and very unusual. Thank you DJT!

The Never Trumpers are stomping their feet in tears. He was a "Man of Principle," after all, putting "country and Constitution over party."

There were more reasons for Meijer’s loss then his impeachment vote. He ran as the typical conservative then voted to allow men to participate in women’s sports and gun control. He bragged that his liberal cronies called him a ‘good Republican’. Like many politicians from very wealthy families he thought once he was elected only his opinion mattered and his constituents would suck it up. I was one of them. Nope.

Yeah, with all his "integrity," the little punk was a legend in his own mind. Even with all the $$$ the DCCC donated to his opponent's campaign, he probably would have lost. Nobody likes someone who isn't a team player.
The trouble is, John Gibbs may have a hard time winning in the general election, because I believe some redistricting may have made that district a lot more blue.

Hey nr, 57-43 is not a tight race, unless you’re in the tank for the loser and/or have a derangement syndrome.

Did Mr. Meijer really believe that a pumped up mob of thousands had just "organized itself" with Donald Trump's encouragement? Did he question who funded the purchase of the equipment they were armed with when they arrived on Capitol grounds? Any serious Jan 6 inquiry would want the American people to know who paid for the chemical munitions, weapons, climbing gear, protective equipment, and explosives. Some in the group were wearing ear pieces.
Wouldn't those kinds of purchases have drawn attention from multiple agencies in our own government? Given that the mob immediately began fighting with police, and dismantling the metal barriers and using them to attack police, I would like to know how many of the "insurrectionists" have been charged for those actions. Attacks on people sound a lot more serious than "parading" or entering the Capitol after being waived in by police. When will we be hearing about charges against folks who came armed with weapons and explosives. The ones who showed up at 12:52 at the west front of the Capitol and dismantled the crowd control barriers?

Only when a Republican defeats the Democrat by six percent does the Left refer to it as a tight victory. If reversed it would be called a mandate.

I will never understand how someone could be so out of touch with the people he represents. Impeachment is not popular with the voters--i.e., the same people who put him in office. It is anti-democratic and here especially, it was done for purely political reasons, since Trump was already out of office and there was no chance the Senate would convict. He should have voted against it for those reasons, alone.

The Meijer family was historically very conservative - typical rock-ribbed upright Dutchmen from western Michigan. I suspect they sent young Peter to some Ivy League school in the east where he went wrong. I wonder what store they’ll put him to work in..
By the way, #17, Meijer’s is much more than a supermarket chain. They sell all sorts of stuff. I still own a shotgun I bought at a Meijer’s Thrifty Acres in Ypsilanti years ago.

if I'm not mistaken, future Congressman Gibbs is black ... now how does he become a Trump endorsed candidate if he's black and our President is a "racist"?

You have to laugh at how totally ignorant the writers are these days....from another source, talking about the former Congressman, we get this genius sentence....
"...a member of the wealthy family that owns and operates the eponymous grocery store chain bearing his last name."
Would that be something like a word that rhymes, and sounds the same as the other word?
Idiots with keyboards, who call themselves journalists.

Don Surber said the NR “sobbed” over this defeat. He’s right. Metzjer was apparently doing OK until he went after Trump. Bad advice from NR?
