LIV Golf commissioner Greg Norman confirmed that the controversial Saudi-backed breakaway attempted to lure away Tiger Woods with an obscene $700-800million deal as he slammed the PGA Tour for being hypocritical.
The series, which is backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, has caused a major civil war in the sport with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour after it poached some of the sport's stars with lucrative deals - and even tried to snatch up the biggest name in golf, Woods.

Didn’t the PGA cancel a major tournament at his Bedminster course in NJ for political reasons?

The PGA shouldn't allow anyone who has left to play for these sheiks, to play in any of their tournaments.

And now we're buying oil from the sheiks and the PGA uses them to run the tournament.

Why does the PGA Tour have 23 sponsors doing 40-plus billion dollars' worth of business with Saudi Arabia? This isn’t about the Saudis, it is about control and the PGA sees its power being eroded.

Just wondering - did the 9/11 families protest when Barack Obola went to Saudi Arabia, met the king, and bowed down so low, could have done a Lewinsky on the king?

Before your knee jerks, look behind the PGA. Like the US Congress, it’s basically a money laundering scheme. The big money sponsors provide the prize money the pro golfers win in the tournaments while the PGA hierarchy (the “Big Guy”) siphons off the vigorish and donations to pay themselves seven figure salaries, Ponte Vedra mansions, lavish offices, and first-class travel.. And they hide all this behind a not for profit designation.
Phill Mikelson was right to question them even before the LIV. What about the new PGA players who are starting out with no sponsors who travel and live in their cars to hopefully qualify for a tournament (250+/-players) and make the cut to get a payday, who eventually run out of money and become club pros? Why not offer seed money to encourage new players who qualify for tournaments instead of the huge PGA staff?
Funny thing, to answer the threat from the LIV, the PGA hierarchy suddenly found $200M to spice up the remaining
tournaments this season!
And lastly, I agree with Trump, there is no proof of a connection with the Saudi government and 911, only from a radical group of Saudi terrorist (think Weather Underground).

The only reason any golfer becomes a pro is to try to make a lot of money. Eventually, the LIV will break down the snobbishness of the PGA pros who will jump ship at the opportunity. If the PGA bars any ship jumper from ever returning then over time their ranks will dwindle to lower tier golfers. Money corrupts everything which can be clearly seen in DC and college sports, notably, football. The idea that a 16 year old high school Junior can be promised millions for his name after he graduates is insane. Even more insane is the ability to switch schools every year based on the highest bidder guarantees a pretty much worthless individual several years into life.

Professional sports do this from time to time. The NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL...all had competitor leagues form. And what happened? The competitors folded and their strongest franchises absorbed, with the others paid off. These second leagues are rarely a success up front, but they cause the top dog to hemorrhage cash...which leads to the eventual merger/absorption. History repeats, and repreats, and repeats...lots of people will eventually make big money from this, including those whiny golfers.

The despicably immoral, egomaniacal liar Eldrick Woods - - isn't even one of the top 100 golfers today. In the rare tournaments he plays - - he struggles to make the cut - - and mostly fails.
Why would anyone pay a marginal golfer - - and worthless human being - - that kind of money?

Greg Norman:
why does the PGA Tour have 23 sponsors doing 40 plus billion dollars worth of business with Saudi Arabia? Why is it okay for the sponsors? Will Jay Monahan go to each and every one of those CEOs of the 23 companies that are investing into Saudi Arabia and suspend them and ban them? The hypocrisy in all this, it’s so loud. It’s deafening.”
Norman also pointed out that Saudi Arabia sponsors the Aramco Series, a lucrative four-event set of women’s tournaments.

An act of integrity on Eldrick's part. To accept that much money then go out and shoot ten over par and miss the cut would have been really uncool of him.

Some thoughts to clarify the debate:
1) It was the PGA of America (club pros) who decided to unjustifiably cancel Trump's '22 major, the PGA Championship, at Bedminster, not the PGA Tour (TV tour pros). Love Trump but he's taking his pound of flesh from the wrong PGA*. He's pretty close to Michelson and Norman, so friendship plays a part of this, but I wish he hadn't cooperated. Some substantial dollars deserved and reclaimed could be a reason.
2) LIV golf features some very big names but virtually every one is past their prime.
3) The PGA Tour is a total meritocracy, (while LIV is diametrically opposite) which donates more charity dollars--hundreds of millions--for their local and national communities. I pray meritocracy remains key to the tour, and commitment to charity remains strong.
4) The PGA Tour has been successful with large cash assets, but they sponsor the growth of the game around the world (Canadian, Asian, Latin America tours) , whose support will be minimized due to competition with Saudi dollars. Local charities will likewise see reduced donations.
Golf is the greatest game ever conceived for what it teaches youth.

Greg Norman made a really good point when talking to Tucker Carlson. Aramco the Saudi oil company has been sponsoring the LPGA for years, yet not a word has been said about it. So why the fuss about the LIV golf tournaments? Norman said the professional golfers are basically independent contractors who should be able to play when and where they want. As a fan, I don't really care. PGA, USGA, or LIV. My financial well being isn't at stake no matter who's playing or winning. This whole thing seems to be a problem only with the extremely wealthy.

It's only business. Nobody should have a monopoly on anything. The PGA has gone overboard with woke lately, featuring black players and black kids in all of their ads and promotions. Unfortunately they don't have any black players and won't because affirmative action does not get you into the top 50 players, hard work and talent does. Millions of dollars just for showing up is a mighty strong lure.
