Some officials on President Joe Biden’s National Security Council (NSC) are privately warning that an end to former President Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program at the United States-Mexico border will spur a flood of illegal immigration.
In June, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that the Biden administration can end the Remain in Mexico program but also sent the issue back to lower courts. Following the decision, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas vowed to end the program when the agency is legally allowed to do so. Some NSC officials, who spoke anonymously to the Wall Street Journal, said they are privately warning administration officials that ending

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) hit the Sunday shows, trying to convince people that his deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was a good thing. But as we’ve previously explained, slapping the name “Inflation Reduction Act” on it doesn’t mean that it reduces inflation. Indeed, as the Penn-Wharton Budget Model explained, it does no such thing. It even raises inflation in the first couple of years. But there’s another problem with it, and that’s what Fox’s Bret Baier tried to get at when he was questioning Manchin on his show — that it’s going to raise taxes. Manchin tried to insist it did not.

Is the Democrat Party on the rebound heading into November’s mid-term elections? If the latest CBS News poll is any indication, the answer is a resounding “no.” Despite proclamations that Joe Biden is “back in the game” and that the left is enjoying a bump following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the survey provides red flag after red flag for Democrats. And while the CBS News shows have spent Sunday morning trying their hardest to spin the findings by focusing heavily on female opposition to Republicans over abortion, even that “good news” for Democrats is tempered by a lack of enthusiasm.

You might have noticed in the last couple of weeks that there’s been a concerted effort to portray the political landscape in the best possible light for Democrats. Things really aren’t that bad. Or are they?
It’s a mirage, as Washington Examiner’s David Drucker tweeted last week. It’s little more than wishful thinking to say that Democrats’ chances of staving off disaster in November are improving — except among the political class. There, it’s becoming the gospel.
Gas prices are falling! Abortion! Abortion! GOP Senate candidates are weak and/or in trouble! Democrats are outraising Republicans by a wide margin! And don’t forget the January 6 hearings!

Voters who support abortion rights are less likely to vote in the November elections than those who think abortion should be illegal, according to a poll released Friday.
Respondents who saw the overturning of Roe v. Wade as a major loss for women’s rights were also less likely to plan on voting in the midterms than those who didn’t, according to the poll, which surveyed 1,026 Americans from July 22 to 24. This presents a challenge for Democrats, who are hoping abortion will be a winning issue for them going into midterms, according to The Washington Post. While 66% of respondents who think abortion should be illegal

MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that to win the majorities in November, Democrats have to “scare the hell out of people” by saying Republicans are “crazy fascists.”
Anchor Nicolle Wallace said, “There’s a direct line between the ideology and the current Homeland Security issued warning of an uptick in threats of domestic violent extremism. It’s around the grievances over the election, and I think in Pennsylvania, you’ve seen some of the extremist groups marching openly in broad daylight on the streets. I don’t know that anybody, except the militia groups themselves, wants to live in that country. How do you, in your view,

On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” White House Council of Economic Advisers member Jared Bernstein said it “makes perfect sense” that 64% of Americans think we’re in a recession because “most people are thinking about inflation. They’re thinking about the pressures on their family budgets. And it’s completely understandable that they would be.” Bernstein also said that while inflation is too high, “we’ve tried to point out that those families often have pretty decent balance sheets.”
Bernstein stated, “I say that that makes perfect sense to me that people would answer a poll with that kind of response. And the reason is because if you actually look at how the group

Today Russia announced a bunch of new problems it was allegedly having with the Germany-made machines that pump natural gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.
Delivery of a Nord Stream 1 gas turbine to Germany from Canada after maintenance was not in line with the contract, Gazprom’s senior manager said on Friday, stepping up criticism of manufacturer Siemens Energy.
Vitaly Markelov, Gazprom’s deputy chief executive, also said Russia had complained repeatedly to Siemens Energy about problems with other turbines.
“We have repeatedly applied to the Russian representative office of Siemens about this, sent 10 letters.

The Democrat-led House of Representatives passed an “assault weapons” ban by a vote of 217 to 213 on Friday evening.
The legislation, H.R. 1808, was sponsored by Rep. David Cicillene (D-RI). Cicillene tweeted passage of the bill: Democrats had intended to hold a vote on an “assault weapons” ban on Wednesday, but had to pull the legislation after realizing they might not have the votes. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) warned this morning that Democrats were working behind the scenes to rally enough support to vote on the measure today.
The legislation is not expected to pass the 50-50 Senate.

Recent developments warrant the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden, former Attorney General William Barr says.
“[I]ntervening events, especially recent reports about FBI whistleblowers and the possible reach of the investigation, warrant adding the protections of special counsel status to assure that key decisions are made independently without political ‘favor,’” Barr told The Federalist.
President Joe Biden’s son Hunter has been under federal investigation since 2018 for issues related to his foreign business practices, including obtaining investments and board positions from politically compromised figures in communist China and other trouble spots. Multiple U.S. attorney’s offices were tasked with components of the investigation

Britain’s official National Security Advisor, Sir Stephen Lovegrove, has warned that the risk of nuclear escalation is greater today than it was during the Cold War, particularly with respect to China.
Speaking to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C., the former top bureaucrat at the Ministry of Defence argued that the West “face[s] a much broader range of strategic risks and pathways to escalation” than during the Cold War, not least because, during that long-simmering conflict, the Soviet Union and its satellites reached something of a “shared understanding of doctrine” which made the threat of nuclear conflict more manageable — some notable flirtations with destruction notwithstanding.

Joe Biden had a more than two-hour call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.
The first thoughts I have in writing about that call are that it’s dangerous for the United States to have him on a call for that long with a foreign leader, particularly Xi — that Xi would be able to see the issues, and therefore the weakness of Joe Biden. The one thing you never want to project to the Chinese is weaknessBut that’s just what Biden has been doing. China has been upset about the trip that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has planned to Taiwan. Taiwan is our ally. Biden should tell
