Gibson’s Bakery “May Only Survive
for the Next Couple of Months,” Pleads
With Court To Collect Against Oberlin College

It is over 3 years since Gibson’s Bakery obtained judgment against Oberlin College for almost $32 million, which with accumulated interest nears $36 million, the amount of a bond posted by the college through Zurich American Insurance to secure the judgment. Neither “Grandpa” Allyn Gibson nor his son David Gibson lived to see the Gibson family collect. They both passed away, as Oberlin College waited them out. Oberlin College has done everything possible to delay the Gibson’s getting the money, including an appeal which the college lost and another appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court, which has not yet ruled on whether it will hear the case.

Comments:

The bakery survived two World Wars, The Great Depression, and the Great Recession but its demise may come about because “Oberlin College has done everything possible to delay the Gibson’s getting the money” giving credence to the old adage, “Justice delayed is justice denied.” May the protection and peace of God be with the Gibson family.

FTA: “Gibson’s Bakery is a proud, 137-year-old, fifth-generation, family business. IT HAS SURVIVED TWO WORLD WARS, THE GREAT DEPRESSION, AND THE GREAT RECESSION--but unless the Gibsons soon receive the judgment to which they are entitled, it may not survive the continuing consequences of Oberlin’s malicious and tortious conduct. The continuing conduct of which the Gibsons have become aware and which has brought the Gibsons to their knees include the following: OBERLIN COLLEGE’S AUTHORIZED NEW STUDENT TOUR GUIDES. ARE STILL BEING HEARD TO SAY DON’T SHOP AT GIBSONS BAKERY WHEN THE TOURS PASS IN FRONT OF THE STORE; NEITHER THE COLLEGE, ITS ADMINISTRATORS, NOR ITS PROFESSORS HAVE RESUMED ANY ORDERING OF THE GIBSON’S PRODUCTS FOR COLLEGE EVENTS; AND NOTICES STILL DENIGRATING THE GIBSONS ARE POSTED IN COLLEGE BUILDINGS FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO SEE. “Beginning with the College-supported business disruptions that are already in the record and continuing to the present, DAVE GIBSON AND HIS SURVIVING WIDOW, LORNA, HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO MORTGAGE VIRTUALLY ALL OF THEIR EQUITY IN THEIR HOME AND RENTAL PROPERTIES TO REMAIN VIABLE. THE VARIOUS MORTGAGES ARE A MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD AND UNDOUBTEDLY THE GIBSONS’ FINANCIAL DISTRESS IS KNOWN TO OBERLIN COLLEGE. Now, Lorna estimates that unless there is a substantial change in circumstances, the bakery may only survive for the next couple of months. “...The Gibsons are in need of speedy justice and an end to Oberlin’s delay tactics. The Gibsons respectfully request an oral hearing or granting of their motion to enter judgment on Zurich American Insurance Company’s supersedeas bond. Speedy relief is necessary for the preservation of their historic business and the lifetime work of generations of Gibsons.” Lest anyone forget: Romans 13:1-5 - Submission to the Authorities ~~~ “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. THEREFORE WHOEVER RESISTS THE AUTHORITIES RESISTS WHAT GOD HAS APPOINTED, AND THOSE WHO RESIST WILL INCUR JUDGMENT. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. THEREFORE ONE MUST BE IN SUBJECTION, NOT ONLY TO AVOID GOD'S WRATH BUT ALSO FOR THE SAKE OF CONSCIENCE.” May the protection and peace of God be with the Gibson family.

Can they start taking pieces of the college itself that would value $32 million. I'm sure a big building or two or the university book store would be nice to own.

Perhaps some Ldotters with legal backgrounds could provide insight as to what might happen to the properties that the Gibson family has had to mortgage if it becomes necessary to close the bakery and, possibly, file for bankruptcy. There were RUMORS about Oberlin College wanting to acquire some of the properties in Oberlin owned by the Gibson family so, if the properties must be liquidated, if the RUMORS are true, perhaps Oberlin College would find the financial wherewithal to (ahem) acquire those properties?

#2~ Typing “Gibson Bakery – Oberlin, OH” in the search engine provides links from which it may be possible to place an order for whatever merchandise might be offered from the bakery. The Gibson Bakery website appears to be: https://www.gibsonsbakeryandcandy.com Although not likely to happen, it would be wonderful if some area college with courageous students and/or other organizations would organize “flash mobs” to visit the bakery on staggered days to make purchases that might help the Gibson family to keep the doors of the business open at least until the court renders a decision. It would be an absolute blessing if the court rules in favor of the Gibson family and the lifetime work of generations of Gibsons could be honored and preserved. Prayers are with the Gibson family.

Start locking up presidents, deans AND their lawyers ! Seize their property and freeze their assets. In other words - GET THEIR D**N ATTENTION ! THAT will open the checkbook ! This is becoming the SOP for FAR too many 'entities'. It is happening because there has been a 'no consequences for non-compliance OR illegal activities' trend for decades now and it's GROWING. Get arrested, no problem, you'll be out in hours ! Defy court orders, NOTHING happens. Steal, rob, maim, rape, kill. It'll be OK. IT will only get worse until, hopefully, it is STOPPED !!

I know this administration loves to change language and linguistics, but this is too much. Also, in 2019, Jean-Pierre called Trump’s wall racist. Is it racist when Biden does it? There is "no substantial constitutional question" for Ohio Supreme Court justices to consider when reviewing Gibson's Bakery's appeal over limits on monetary damage awards, attorneys for Oberlin College argued in a court filing Wednesday. The Gibsons and their attorneys are "distorting" the court record so their arguments will be heard, the college told the state's highest court in a memorandum. The bakery and its owners' arguments also are not "an issue of public or great general interest worthy of this court's review," the college's attorneys argued.
