Could be a good idea for an in-town fleet that can be back at the company charging station each night.

Can't wait to see where they get plugged in for recharging. Many post offices have cramped lots to park these vehicles overnight. There is no room for dozens of charging stations.

Companies pay USPS to deliver trash to our mailbox, then we pay for trash service to take it away with our other trash. We get maybe two or three legit pieces of mail a month. With EVs it will take even longer and cost more.

Hmmmm. Out here in flyover land, a high percentage of the postal delivery people are rural and drive their own vehicles and driver 100's of miles a day to deliver the mail. Don't see that working well. Even in the cities, the miles driven would exceed how long the EV would be able to function. Someone certainly isn't thinking right.

More expensive, requires more mining pollution for rare earth elements, vastly more expensive maintenance for a long-life vehicle, and requires more fossil fuel per mile do to the combined inefficiencies of generating electricity, transmission, transformer rectification to DC, battery chargers, and battery storage and motor losses. So, they pollute the air more than just burning gas. What's not to like?

Stupidity on steroids. Range decreases as load increases. There will be mail trucks out on the road that are innately unrecoverable. It ain't like ya can take a gallon of electricity out and get your truck going. So they'll go out and buy gigantic EV recovery rollbacks to pick up the stranded delivery trucks and then they'll have to buy mammoth EV lowboys to recover the stranded rollbacks carrying the stranded delivery trucks. Your goobermint at work...

This will work for cities, but not for most suburban/rural areas. Also, it might not be so good in northern climates. I hope the USPS tests the concept, though, before going all in.

The Biden administration is deploying US troops to Somalia. President Biden signed off on the plan on Monday, along with a plan to target some dozen leaders of Al Shabab. Trump had withdrawn troops from the war-torn region near the end of his time in office. About 450 troops will be sent to Somalia, on Africa's east coast. The troops being redeployed to Somalia are Special Operations forces, and the Pentagon has also been given authority to target leaders of Al Shabab, a terrorist group affiliated with Al Qaeda, according to The New York Times.

"His failure to disclose his prior sexual abuse during the jury selection process was highly unfortunate, but not deliberate," Nathan wrote. "The Court further concludes that Juror 50 harbored no bias toward the Defendant and could serve as a fair and impartial juror."

U.S. Navy officials have said a warship can’t be deployed because its commander has refused the COVID-19 vaccine. The service said an East Coast guided-missile destroyer is “out of commission” after a Florida federal judge ruled that the Navy and Marine Corps cannot remove its officer for being unvaccinated against COVID-19. The warship now remains docked in Norfolk, Virginia. It comes after U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday, a George H. W. Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin sent the Secret Service a letter last month seeking unredacted records tied to Hunter Biden’s travels between January 2009 and January 2017. They asked for full travel records and criticized the agency for years of “inappropriate redactions” — especially related to a controversial Kazakhstan trip in 2014. The senators also lamented that three years of documents seemed to be missing entirely.

The Biden administration missed another deadline to hold quarterly onshore oil drilling lease sales after a federal court ruled it was legally required to do so. The Department of the Interior (DOI) defied the June 2021 court ruling which ordered the administration to halt its ban on new oil and gas leases, the Western Energy Alliance — a fossil fuel industry group that challenged the ban — said Wednesday. In August 2021, the DOI vowed to publish notices of competitive sales in December and hold a lease sale 45 days later, two promises it failed to keep, in court filings.

Author Jeffrey Frank has written two biographies of American presidents, one about Harry S. Truman and another about the relationship between Dwight D. Eisenhower and his Vice President Richard Nixon. He draws on that knowledge of history to argue that President Biden is doing a poor job preparing VP Harris to succeed him. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was a first-term senator from California before entering the White House, hasn’t been given the sort of immersive experiences or sustained, high-profile tasks that would deepen and broaden her expertise in ways Americans could see and appreciate. In the modern era, of course, a 68-day trip for a vice president would be laughable.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin suggested that abortion bans in some states could actually violate religious beliefs in a column on Sunday. Rubin introduced the subject by referencing a lawsuit brought up by the Jewish Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor against the 15-week abortion ban in Florida. The congregation argued that Jewish law "does not consider life to begin at conception or at 15 weeks" and refusing an abortion could violate their beliefs. Though Rubin questioned whether this would sufficiently infringe on "First Amendment rights and the state constitution’s free-exercise clause," she still considered the issue "important."
