Academia Neglects Its Most Important Function:
A Free Marketplace of Ideas

Original Article

If you have been paying any attention at all to academia in this country, you know it has entered a dark age, neglecting what my alma mater once described as its function: A place for the sifting and winnowing of ideas. Today’s academic “marketplace” increasingly sells only one product, drives others from the agora with a variety of bullying actions, and threatens both the sellers and purchasers into silence about alternate products. Here’s an eye-opener to illustrate the extent of the assault on free speech and free thought.

Academia hasn’t been open to any ideology except Communism since the end of the 70’s.

They closed the market place of ideas, and replaced it with a brainwashing for Communism center at almost every single university and college.

Part of this is the creation of gutless students, who simply want to get along to go along. Gee, might get a bad grade...so I'll just play along. Another layer of the bubble wrap they've worn since birth. The prize for many is NOT an education, but a class tie that they expect will open doors regardless of their own achievements. These dimwits are supported by their parents who are paying for their four-year adventure and gap year travels. You know, the ones who make a show of all their campus visits before slapping a "Proud Parent of a _____ Freshman" window sticker on the SUV. Students (not children) need to grow up and stand up...really, that used to be a badge of honor, a rite of passage.

The Viet Nam War brought about the huge student protests that, in turn, brought about the academic cowardice displayed today at most colleges and universities. Grading on a curve became forbidden, plagiarism/academic dishonesty was shrugged off (Dementia Jo Biden, a student at the Syracuse University College Of Law in the mid 1960's, cheated in a course, turning in another student's research as his own, and instead of being expelled from law school, he was given an F and had to repeat the course. And when he graduated near the bottom of his class, he was admitted to the Bar in Delaware.) In Loco Parentis disappeared on college campuses in the late 1960s, which resulted in unlimited visitation in dorms, as well as co-ed dorms. (I had a friend who was VP for Student Affairs at a major private university back around 1970, and he said that his job duties disappeared almost overnight.

Not to have academic freedom in our universities is a great loss, and the only way it could be returned is to fire all the professors who do not believe in it. Lots of purging needs to be done in our institutions. Not sure how it can be done.

GOP To Investigate Fauci? Bring. It. On. 4 replies

Congressional Republicans are floating the idea of investigating Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Biden administration’s response to the COVID pandemic should they win back the majority in the midterms. Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who is in line to become chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, if Republicans win the majority in the U.S. Senate, told The Hill that Republicans will attempt to get the answers from Fauci. “One way or another, if we are in the majority, we will subpoena his records and he will testify in the Senate under oath,” he said.

Asked if he could go back to March of 2020 and start over with the pandemic response, Dr. Fauci admitted that mistakes were made in his and the CDC's response to COVID's initial spread but refused blame for collateral damage caused by public health officials. What he did admit? That masking and social distancing restrictions should have been "much, much more stringent" than they were. "If I knew in 2020 what I know now, we would do a lot differently," he said during an interview on HillTV's Rising.

Close enough for government work’ has taken on a whole new dimension in the Biden era with the remarks reportedly delivered by CIA Director William Burns Wednesday at an Aspen Security Forum discussion. Jerry Dunleavy of the Washington Examiner has the story. CIA Director William Burns said he is “very proud” of the agency’s analysis in Afghanistan in 2021 despite being blindsided by the swift collapse of the Afghan government and failing to predict how quickly the Taliban would take Kabul.

Professionals who need a graduate degree to ply their trade—doctors and lawyers, mostly—are incredibly protective of their ability to work in their chosen professions. They’ve invested years and tens (or even hundreds) of thousands of dollars in attaining their credentials, passed licensing exams, gotten checked out by the police, and worked years in their field to attain the upper-middle-class success to which they aspire. That’s why the latest leftist tactic is one of the most vicious: trying to disbar attorneys who worked on Trump’s election lawsuits.

Kamala Harris’s ruthless war on words continues 17 replies

Yesterday, Vice Kamala Harris delivered a speech at the American Rescue Plan Workforce Development Summit. Harris told her audience the following “Together, we are investing in training programs and apprenticeships that give workers the skills they need to take on the jobs with better wages and better benefits — in particular, workers from underrepresented backgrounds.” Harris had just achieved the seemingly impossible by her standard -- she had constructed a meaningful sentence. But before her aides could leap with joy to celebrate the accomplishment, Kamala served another word salad.

As our nation descends into a recession and Americans worry about how to pay their bills and feed their families, leaders in the Republican Party have decided to keep quiet. Their strategy is to let the political party in power, the Democrats, self-destruct. Without question, Democrats have done a horrible job leading the nation. As the party in control of Congress and the White House, Democrats are responsible for the high inflation and gas prices that are wrecking the nation's economy.

It looks like President Gremlin may be done. The Dems are starting to turn on him. Both the New York Times and The Atlantic have run stories that Democrat party leaders are questioning old Joe’s ability to do the job. Duh! In fact, according to the Daily Mail, one anonymous Democrat lawmaker called the Biden administration, “rudderless, aimless, and hopeless.” And that was from somebody on his own team – ouch. But I have to disagree with whoever coined that term. They’re more wrong than right. There has been nothing aimless or rudderless about anything Biden has done.

Consider the logic of the left and it’s no wonder that many people are considering the unspeakable – whether America will devolve into actual violent conflict. But I dare speak about it at length in my brand-new book We’ll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America, which confronts this issue of systematic political violence head-on. The most important question related to the long decline of America at the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and terminally foolish ruling caste that controls our major institutions is whether we can pull out of this tailspin without bloodshed.

There is an expression, “The perfect is the enemy of the good” which encapsulates the danger of overreaching. We can fiddle with things incessantly, trying to move from a good outcome to a perfect one, and in the process destroy what we are trying to fix or create. Sometimes taking a par, rather than trying for birdie and ending up in the water, is the best course of action, on the golf course, and in life.

Many years ago, when Roger Ebert reported John Wayne’s comment about the great movie “High Noon,” I was surprised. “What a piece of you-know-what that was,” Wayne said. “Here’s a town full of people who have ridden in covered wagons all the way across the plains, fightin’ off Indians and drought and wild animals in order to settle down and make themselves a homestead. And then when three no-good bad guys walk into town and the marshal asks for a little help, everybody in town gets shy. Last week at American Thinker, in discussing the Dobbs case, I prophesied, “and if your media sources resemble those I’ve seen, the moral angle will be played to the hilt with stories of exceptional cases being treated as the rule.” How right I was, as the story of a 10-year-old who was raped and had to travel to Indiana from Ohio to get an abortion was highlighted in multiple media everywhere and used to discredit the Supreme Court justices who decided Dobbs and pro-life politicians.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling for the end of private car ownership in the name of saving the world from climate change by reducing the need for green tech resources. “We need a clean energy revolution, and we need it now,” the WEF begins its article. According to the WEF, critical metals, such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel — all of which are used in “clean energy technologies” — are in short supply. And while the WEF says recycling old tech that uses these metals could lessen the impact of shortages, it’s simply not enough. “The complication is that we do not currently have enough metals in in circulation

The Army picked General Motors to provide them with a GMC Hummer EV for a test drive as the service looks to fill a requirement for a light- to heavy-duty battery electric vehicle to reduce the military’s reliance on fossil fuels in garrison and in the field. GM’s all-electric pickup-model Hummer features 1,000 horsepower with a 24-module, double-stacked Ultium battery pack. It offers almost 330 miles of combined driving range with its first edition and can go from 0-to-60 mph in as little as 3 seconds, according to the company. “Leveraging GM’s advanced technology, this demonstration will prove to our U.S. Army customer

There are a lot of epitaphs for Liz Cheney. Daughter of a corrupt businessman and neocon war criminal, traitor to the American people, TDS-infected RINO, and Vice Chair of perhaps the most partisan, Muscovite trial in American history. Thankfully, we can add soon-to-be-ousted representative from the state of Wyoming to her ignominious and disgraceful resume. However, what we never thought we’d get a chance to see, and it will be glorious in all of its abject misery, is the title of failed presidential candidate.

Author Jeffrey Frank has written two biographies of American presidents, one about Harry S. Truman and another about the relationship between Dwight D. Eisenhower and his Vice President Richard Nixon. He draws on that knowledge of history to argue that President Biden is doing a poor job preparing VP Harris to succeed him. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was a first-term senator from California before entering the White House, hasn’t been given the sort of immersive experiences or sustained, high-profile tasks that would deepen and broaden her expertise in ways Americans could see and appreciate. In the modern era, of course, a 68-day trip for a vice president would be laughable.

The leak rocked the federal judiciary, the American political scene, and led to an ugly campaign to intimidate Supreme Court justices, inspiring one assassination plot that thankfully went nowhere. Chief Justice John Roberts promised an investigation to identify the leaker, and the pool of suspects seemed relatively small — the justices themselves and their clerks. Almost three months later, though, the leaker has seemingly escaped detection and punishment. Are they even still investigating the leak? The Associated Press can’t even get an answer to that question from the court:

Hunter Biden reportedly did not register as a foreign agent while making business deals overseas, according to the New York Post. Experts said recently it was a possible crime that could result in him being sent to prison. The report noted Biden was registered as a lobbyist for domestic interests but not under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). In addition, Biden could reportedly face charges regarding tax violations and lying about illegally buying a firearm. Breitbart News reported Wednesday: The probe, which has been ongoing for years and debated for months among Justice Department officials, also centers on the Biden family’s foreign business schemes while Joe Biden was vice president.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin suggested that abortion bans in some states could actually violate religious beliefs in a column on Sunday. Rubin introduced the subject by referencing a lawsuit brought up by the Jewish Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor against the 15-week abortion ban in Florida. The congregation argued that Jewish law "does not consider life to begin at conception or at 15 weeks" and refusing an abortion could violate their beliefs. Though Rubin questioned whether this would sufficiently infringe on "First Amendment rights and the state constitution’s free-exercise clause," she still considered the issue "important." "In any event, this is an issue the forced-birth crowd should care about."
