As we reported previously three people were killed and two others injured after a shooter opened fire in the food court of a Greenwood, Indiana, shopping mall Sunday evening, police say.
Around 6:00 p.m. local time, multiple people called 911 to report an active shooter at the Greenwood Park Mall, Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison told reporters.
During a media briefing Sunday, police said the shooter was armed with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition. The type was weapon was not described beyond being a long gun.
“It appears that he had a rifle with several magazines of ammunition, entered the food court and began shooting,” Ison said.
I'm gonna be running the Dickens drill for sure.

Reminds me of Lee Harvey Oswald and Kennedy assassination. If the greatest experts on the planet have difficulty recreating the “narrative,” then it probably isn’t true. My instincts tell me this story is incomplete.

Another amazing thing is that Dickens had a clear shot with people running every which way to flee. Another point, who says a pistol is only for up close and personal work? Youth is another factor. At 22 I was a much steadier pistol shot than I am in my 70s. Good on Dickens for being cool and decisive in a time of high tension.

Occasionally overlooked is that the killer was most probably moving as well. Making Mr. Dicken’s skills even more remarkable. Providence indeed!

According to LE, his first shot, fired while he was behind a pillar, hit the perp. The others were fired as he moved toward him, urging people to move behind him in order to exit. He cleared the area as he was moving and shooting.
Youth has to be a factor, a big strong steady arm and hand, excellent eyesight and eye-hand coordination, and an amazingly cool head. My idea of a hero.

Regarding the story being incomplete: did they check the Grassy Knoll Juice Bar for a second shooter?

It seemed great shooting on the news, but seeing is believing.

FTA:
"As we previously reported on the day of the shooting every mainstream media was talking about the shooter all morning instead of the good Samaritan that saved the day."
And that's why so many are tuning out mainstream media. They never want to report anything positive about our country and its citizens. They only want to report negative news about both.

Thanks for posting. Mr. Dicken had his mindset correct that day. I wonder if he thought: Gads - my girl wants to go to the Mall. That is a big Soft Target. I hope no one decides to come there & copy cat the mass shootings the US has had the last month or 2. He had to have thought through in his training some of these possible scenarios. He had to have maintained the situational awareness needed to react so well. On one You Tube recreating the Dicken Drill a resident of Greenwood reported that only the first one or 2 shots were from 40 yards. Dicken moved forward after those initial shots and engaged the criminal at a closer range. As for the criminal - I think these young men are wanting to commit suicide and part of the reason they us guns is to stir up more acrimony. The use of a gun in a crime just creates the knee-jerk reaction to outlaw firearms. It increases the sentiment in the public to want to ban guns. Knives are just a lethal - just more up close & personal. Guns create equality - small women can protect themselves from more powerful men etc. Guns are equalizers as long as you are willing to take the time to train in 'situational' shooting and proper use of a firearm.

I couldn't hit anything smaller than a garage door with my SW Shield at 40 yards.

An uninformed/misinformed comment, #2. The shot on Kennedy was only 60 yards, with a scope sighted rifle, rested on a window sill, with the car moving very slowly directly away, and slightly downhill, essentially stationary. I have a Carcano rifle and have duplicated the shot, and the 5 second time, multiple times. It is actually a relatively easy shot for a rifle. Three shots in 5 seconds, not at all hard with a bolt action rifle. The rifle Oswald used was tested later with the same ammo and would shoot 3 shots into 5/8" from a rested position at 60 yards. But, the misinformers persist in claiming that it was an "inaccurate rifle", and "an impossible shot".
The Dicken shot is more difficult, as are all handgun shots compared to rifle shots, but I am pretty sure that I can duplicate it with my carry gun, a .45 ACP 1911 type semi-auto. I'll be testing myself soon. I used to be able to hit an 18" round gong at 200 yards, standing, with a 1911 about 4-5 our of seven shots. Several of my friends could do it about as well, too.
I don't understand why the linked video fired at 60-65 yards, 50% farther than the reported range. That is far harder, yet he was still making regular hits. And KEY POINT, resting on a pillar or wall is a HUGE help in a shot like this. Not using the support makes the shot much more difficult.
Go to Youtube and search on Dicken Drill - yesterday there were five or six videos of people attempting it, many succeeding, or coming close. Probably will be more now. Some only got six hits instead of eight, still probably effective at stopping the bad guy. One guy used a short barreled six shot revolver, and fired the ten shots with all hits in 11.5 seconds, nothing to rest against. With the slow speed of a revolver reload, that's impressive.
A real feat of arms by Mr. Dicken, yes, but many can do it - on a range. And perhaps we should train more and make sure that we can do it. And real life is always more difficult due to stress.

They all collude not to show video or interview people who witnessed the shooting. Amazing how unified the despicable press is.

And independent. Not beholden to a department's rules of engagement, waiting for direction from all the chiefs.

Here is a key missing piece of information from each of these recreations: the information from the incident said that he braced himself. Now, where I learned to shoot, bracing means you utilize an object - table, tree, sandbag, whatever - to stabilize your shot. Perhaps I’ve missed something, but I do not recall bracing referring to an unsupported, two-hand stance.
This in no way diminishes his feat. The slightest barrel deviation causes missed shots. So, whether he braced against something or fired from a two hand grip, what he did is amazing. He had to fight all of his human instincts in order to remain calm enough to place 8/10 on target.

Re #18. Yes, reports aaid braced on pillar, an excellent way to get better hits. I think that the issue is that most ranges don't have anything solid to brace against.
Bracing and using cover, both are excellent tactics.

On Sunday, a deranged murderer was stopped by Eli Dicken within 15 seconds. Fortunately, Eli was carrying a concealed hand gun. More lives would have been lost if it wasn’t for Eli’s heroics. But I didn't know how great was his shoot until now!!! Incredible accuracy. Providence. This is why we need the Second Amendment!
