Florida’s Surplus Budget Allows DeSantis
to Help Families with $450 Per Child to
Fight Inflation

Original Article

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is overseeing a relief effort for some 60,000 families in the state hit hardest by rising inflation with a one-time payment of $450 per child. “These letters are real,” DeSantis’s press secretary, Christina Pushaw, said in a tweet with a copy of the documents families will receive. Pushaw also pushed back against claims that these payments are hypocritical because of criticism by conservatives that Biden’s excessive federal spending is the cause for inflation.

Comments:

Don't foster parents in FL get payment per child? And what about single fathers? I think he has opened a can of worms with this. I guess he feels it ok to let our elders on fixed incomes who are suffering from inflation starve. Free money is a temporary solution. Giving them a way to earn the money would be a better option. Welfare is a dangerous path. Disappointed.

These people have jobs. The problem is Democrat Inflation has cut the value of their pay in half and they can’t feed their families because the prices limit what you can put in your shopping cart. Some probably are working two jobs, but you can’t keep up with weekly price increases if wages don’t change. DeSantis weighed the cost benefit to help out temporarily.

Agree completely with OP. How is this action different than the feds' stimulus payments to allow deadbeats to avoid work? People should be forced to feel the maximum pain from Brandon's stupidity so they will vote against the moron party when the time comes. DeSantis may have made his first mistake.

The BEST way for Government (State or Federal) to fight inflation is to CUT taxes, period. Government caused it and they are the best place to end it.

#3 It actually explains it all IN the article. Because DeSantis isn't printing money. He is refunding a surplus in the budget. Now, how he chooses to refund that surplus is defiantly up for debate (and if taxes are surplus, then they should be lowered obviously) but printing fictitious money backed by nothing (which both President Trump and pResident Biden have done btw) and refunding surplus taxes have literally NOTHING in common.

This is "state surplus" money. So, this is money that was taken from taxpayers. Is it being returned to the taxpayers or redistributed? On the surface, it looks like DeSantis took a page right out of the left's vote buying playbook. I wish him well with his purchase.

The guidelines vow to “respect the right of students to keep their gender identity or transgender status private and confidential,” including parents who do not affirm the child’s perceived gender identity. When building a “Gender Support Plan,” educators are told to work with the student’s family only “if the family is supportive of the student” and their perceived identity, according to the district’s guidance.

When first lady Jill Biden spoke to the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) 2022 Convention in Boston last week, her remarks were notable more for political signaling than for substantive content. Delivered with an “us-against the world” tone, the first lady rallied her troops in a nakedly partisan fashion. Decrying hunger, gun violence and limits to abortion, Biden planted her flag in familiar territory. Her choice of words left the unmistakable sense she is quite willing to further the already uncomfortable distance between parents and educators if doing so furthers the political agenda of the left.
