Republican Tim Michels pours nearly $8
million into self-funded run for Wisconsin governor

Original Article

Republican candidate for governor Tim Michels has spent nearly $7.7 million since entering the race three months ago — an aggressive strategy that has pushed him to the top of the Republican primary in recent state polling. Michels, a multimillionaire who co-owns the state's largest construction company, has donated $7.9 million of his own money to his campaign since April — accounting for nearly all of the money the campaign raised as of July, according to Michels' first campaign finance report.

Comments:

No knock on Michels or anyone, but this illustrates what it takes to "primary" - BIG MONEY. If you don't have it, you won't get it, either. Those special interest groups are interested in one thing: winning. Even in local races, if you haven't the resources, like money, staff and volunteers, you will likely be toast. And challenging an incumbent means you won't get any support from the political establishment. It's not about issues. Rarely is. It's politics. And the primary is just the start. Fundraising never ends.

Very astute comment by the OP. It's easy to say "Primary all the RINOS!" but realities of money and organization usually mitigate against such challenges.

Also, the GOP will not usually support candidate or potential candidates who can not self-fund. That's why, here in NY, we have had a couple of nasty congress critters whose terms ended prematurely after they sent naughty pics of themselves to non-family members. There were several truly decent, well-liked people willing to run but the GOP would not get behind them. Ramona (the Pest)

Op... not in all cases. MAGA republicans took over the republican party gears from a sitting multi millionaire rino Gov. Ricketts and his band of hand picked gofers in Neb.

#3 - The GOP party "takeover" in Nebraska wasn't a primary election, it was a convention vote with local delegates. And it is usually policy of the party not to involve itself in primary elections, and will not much involve itself in other than competitive general election races. It doesn't distribute funds until after the primary...and then not equally to everyone. Be interesting to see whether the big money contributors are onboard with the MAGA insurgents.

Migrants sent from Texas are still arriving in D.C. months after the state's governor followed through on a promise to send those who crossed U.S. border illegally to the nation's capital. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) first announced on April 6 that the state would send people crossing the U.S. border from Mexico to the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Abbott’s announcement came as he voiced opposition to President Joe Biden lifting Title 42, the public health policy the Trump administration started during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What’s he doing? He’s not making any news,'” Shaftan said. Of course, Trump does make some news, but it's mostly complaining about the 2020 election results...

Understandably controversial in itself, there are many horror stories surrounding its implementation.
