The House on Tuesday night voted 267 to 157 to pass a bill that would recognize same-sex marriage in federal law. Forty-seven Republicans joined all Democrats in sending the Defense of Marriage Act to the Senate where it faces a tougher challenge of getting through. The vote came amid concerns that the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade abortion access could jeopardize other rights.(Snip)Liz Cheney, GOP conference chair Elise Stefanik and NRCC chair Tom Emmer were among members of their party to cross the aisle. Scott Perry of the Freedom Caucus and Nancy Mace, who is facing a tough midterm, also sided with Democrats.

A woman who slept with her dog was almost eaten alive when the canine snapped and devoured “half her arm.” Tya Lucas, 41, was at home in Lewisville, Texas, introducing her new puppy, Roo, to her friend Peter, 33, on May 16 when her nearly 100-pound pit bull, Hercules, violently turned on her, reps for the Lewisville Police Department confirmed to The Post. “The puppy went to jump on the couch so I went to pick the puppy up—and my friend told him to get down,” Lucas said.(Snip)The dog tore off two-thirds of Tya’s right arm, ate her bicep and sank its teeth into her leg

A Virginia eatery has added an inflation fee, as restaurants across the United States are grappling with record-breaking costs of raw goods, materials and labor. Sunset Grill owner Leslie Whitney said she and her husband thought 'long and hard' before charging customers a 3.5percent inflation fee in order to cope with widespread economic pain. 'Doing menu changes in accordance with daily rising prices was not reasonable, as we would have been printing and reprinting two or three times a week,' Whitney told CBS6. Hundreds of thousands of restaurant owners across America, who are still reeling from post-pandemic woes, are now fighting to keep their businesses afloat amid inflation

A Homeland Security panel has recommended against the controversial Disinformation Governance Board, calling the body needless.
While not final, the recommendation from a Homeland Security Advisory Council subcommittee prompted Republicans on social media to declare victory. While the council subcommittee said it had not decided how best to counter disinformation while “protect[ing] civil rights, civil liberties and privacy… we have concluded there is no need for a Disinformation Governance Board.” Republicans on social media cheered. “DHS decides today there was no need for its unconstitutional Disinformation Board after all,” crowed Sen. Josh Hawley, Missouri Republican, as he posted a screenshot of the DHS group’s final draft report.

Strike two! Bill de Blasio dropped his bid to represent the left-leaning 10th Congressional District on Tuesday, admitting that “it’s not going work out.” “I’ve really listened carefully to people and it’s clear to me that when it comes to this congressional district, people are looking for another option. And I respect that,” the former mayor said in a video statement posted to Twitter. He also conceded it’s finally time for him to “leave electoral politics” and “focus on other ways to serve.”(Snip)He abandoned his 2020 presidential campaign after failing to clinch even 1% of support in national polls—all the while infuriating the New Yorkers

A company in Fort Pierce, Florida–not far from Parkland, site of the 2018 school shooting that killed 17–is stirring controversy with its plan to protect children from school shootings by hiding them in bullet-resistant steel enclosures. To many, the idea of directing children into stark metal boxes serves as an alarming symbol of a country that fails time and again to address the causes of its gun violence crisis.(Snip)John Corrado, vice-president of National Safety Shelters, says the company sees its shelters as a response to an intractable problem. “Obviously, the fewer the guns, the better. Because you can’t have shootings without guns,” Corrado says.

New data shows Covid cases in Singapore and New Zealand have overtaken Australia in the latest Omicron wave despite ultra-strict mask mandates. Masks are worn everywhere in the densely-populated Asian city while New Zealanders are forced to wear them in all indoor public places, such as shopping centres and libraries.
But both now have higher case numbers per million than Australia, where compulsory mask rules have been abandoned in most indoor settings. These figures appear to smash the push now on in Australia for a return to mask mandates, which are currently compulsory only on public transport and in aged care and healthcare centres.

New York City’s homeless shelters are being overrun with asylum-seeking migrants as the immigration crisis at the southern border worsens—with nearly 3,000 arriving in recent weeks, Mayor Eric Adams warned Monday. Adams called on President Biden to send “additional federal resources immediately” so the city can handle the overflow.
“If we do not get these urgently needed resources, we may struggle to provide the proper level of support our clients deserve, while also facing challenges as we serve both a rapidly growing shelter population and new clients who are seeking asylum,” Adams said in a prepared statement. Adams said the illegal immigrants included families “arriving on buses

The Biden administration announced plans Monday to streamline the application process for Afghan allies who assisted the U.S. war effort and who are seeking a special visa to live in the U.S., cutting Homeland Security out of the adjudication process.
Afghans now only need to file their form with the State Department, rather than fill out a second form for Homeland Security and wait for that department’s approval, officials said. That could cut weeks out of the current processing time, which stood at roughly two years according to the latest data.(Snip)Instead, analysts say the chaotic airlift last summer brought out much of Kabul’s middle class, who had little connection

The ongoing shortage of baby formula across the United States has become more acute in recent weeks, despite the Biden administration flying in millions of bottles worth of formula from across the world over the past two months. According to the market research firm IRI, 28.3% of powdered baby formula products were out of stock at US stores for the week ending July 10—a higher percentage than the 23.7% reported out of stock for the week ending May 22, when the shortage dominated headlines.(Snip)By contrast, the normal out-of-stock range prior to the COVID-19 pandemic hovered between 5% and 7%. In addition to less availability,

House Democrats’ chief investigative committee is picking at flea collars and pro football team harassment while the chaos at the southern border claims a record number of lives, the panel’s top Republican charged Monday, demanding the committee shift gears and stark tackling one of the big issues facing the country. Rep. James Comer, the ranking Republican on the Oversight and Reform Committee, said in a letter that he’s now made six requests for hearings on the border, with no response. The Kentucky lawmaker and fellow Republicans said the lack of hearings is part of the reason the Lugar Center gave the panel an “F” grade for its oversight efforts

Ted Kennedy, Liberal Lion of the Senate, famously colluded with the Soviets when Reagan was president, the Bathhouse Sheikh told Russia he'd have a lot more flexibility in his second term, and John Kerry did some under-the-table dealings as well. So what's the big deal? Medals Milley will say he was simply doing his duty as America's Greatest War Hero, protecting us against a madman, and the congressional panel will request that he be awarded a few more medals.
