Dozens of migrants said to be from Texas
arrive on bus at Union Station in DC

Migrants sent from Texas are still arriving in D.C. months after the state's governor followed through on a promise to send those who crossed U.S. border illegally to the nation's capital. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) first announced on April 6 that the state would send people crossing the U.S. border from Mexico to the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Abbott’s announcement came as he voiced opposition to President Joe Biden lifting Title 42, the public health policy the Trump administration started during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comments:

Four busloads a day are overwhelming the volunteers meeting these buses in DC. One organization reports a work stoppage because volunteers are stretched thin, and many have gotten COVID-19. Of course, demands are for the District to pony up more resources. One doesn't hear any particular uproar from District government. The Feds are silent, probably thanking Abbott for his help in transporting these border jumpers from Texas. In the meantime, the invasion continues unabated.

Gov. Abbott simply did what he said he would do. Unusual for a politician, true, but hardly a surprise. DC authorities should have been prepared

Let's change the demographics of DC from 96% black to 80% "Hispanic and other" to see how that deflates the plantation narrative of the Demonrats.

The U.S. Secret Service has denied allegations that the agency deleted text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021 after they had been requested by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general. Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi issued a strongly worded statement on Thursday that refuted the claims by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and blamed a "reset" of the agency's mobile phones for the loss of some data other than the messages in question.

Ohio State Representative Gary Click (R-Vickery) this week introduced a bill to protect preborn human life from abortion. Titled The Personhood Act, Click’s legislation stipulates that the state “shall recognize the personhood, and protect the constitutional rights, of all unborn human individuals from the moment of conception.” The measure would not prohibit abortion in any case where doing so would “endanger the life of a mother.”

Republican pollster Rick Shaftan is like a lot of political junkies: He looks to his mother for hints on what real America is thinking. Lately, their talks have been about former President Donald Trump and whether he should run again. “Here’s the thing: My mom, of all people, my 96-year-old mom points this out,” said Shaftan, who just finished polling Republicans in Iowa about the coming 2024 presidential caucus. “She says, ‘I don’t see Trump doing anything. What’s he doing? He’s not making any news,'” Shaftan said. Of course, Trump does make some news, but it's mostly complaining about the 2020 election results...

The UNDP estimates that 51.6 million more people fell into poverty in the first three months after the war, living off $1.90 a day or less. This pushed the total number globally at this threshold to 9% of the world's population. An additional 20 million people slipped to the poverty line of $3.20 a day.

According to the report, a Uvalde officer armed with a rifle sighted in to shoot the 18-year-old gunman before he entered the school but instead waited for permission from a supervisor.

Millions of Americans rely on the federal government to cover the cost of college. Education loans have existed for generations, but borrowing only really took off in the past two decades. Soaring college costs, higher enrollment, changes to the federal lending system, labor market demand for credentials and paltry wage growth have all contributed to the $1.6 trillion in outstanding federal student debt. This does not include debt originated in the private market.

I had breakfast in Budapest this morning with an American academic on vacation with his family. We talked about the turmoil in the world; like me, he is a Christian. He has been working in the Baltic countries for the past few years, and said that those places are beginning to re-paganize. About the Christian churches in the West, he said that it feels to him like we are at the point of the downfall of the Kingdom of Judah, just before the Jews were taken to Babylon in captivity. He said that in those days, many false prophets appeared, telling the Jews what they wanted to hear:

Spectacular and groundbreaking snapshots of the early cosmos gripped the world earlier this week when NASA released the first images from its new super space telescope. James Webb captured an unprecedented look at a 'stellar nursery', a dying star cloaked by dust and a 'cosmic dance' between a group of galaxies, along with hints of water vapor in the atmosphere of a remote exoplanet. What is even more exciting, however, is that astronomers say this is just 'the tip of the iceberg'. It is hoped the $10 billion (£7.4 billion) telescope will also observe the very first stars to shine, detect habitable planets in far-away galaxies and peer back in time

Headlines lately have not been encouraging for the faithful. A Gallup poll shows that the percentage of Americans who believe in God has fallen to 81 percent—a drop of 10 percent over the last decade and an all-time low. This accelerating trend is especially pronounced among young adults. (Snip) Perhaps surprisingly, our survey discovered that the perceived message of science has played a leading role in the loss of faith. We found that scientific theories about the unguided evolution of life have, in particular, led more people to reject belief in God than worries about suffering, disease, or death.
