Republican pollster Rick Shaftan is like a lot of political junkies: He looks to his mother for hints on what real America is thinking. Lately, their talks have been about former President Donald Trump and whether he should run again.
“Here’s the thing: My mom, of all people, my 96-year-old mom points this out,” said Shaftan, who just finished polling Republicans in Iowa about the coming 2024 presidential caucus.
“She says, ‘I don’t see Trump doing anything. What’s he doing? He’s not making any news,'” Shaftan said.
Of course, Trump does make some news, but it's mostly complaining about the 2020 election results...

Trump is the ONLY candidate who will be capable of driving he communists out! If DeSantis runs, he will get the same treatment as Trump and spend the first two years learning the ropes. We don’t have two years we need action on day one and Trump is the ONLY one who can and will do it. Just because you have Conservative by you name or screen name doesn’t mean your are really conservative, you might be a Never Trumper.

And, yet another story needling us with “The Base Doesn’t Want Trump” propaganda, complete with someone’s 96 yr old mother wondering why Trump isn’t “doing anything.” (I’m surprised it didn’t come with violins.) These people need to get their narratives on the same page. Is Trump supposed to be doing more, or is he supposed to cool it? OP loves to sling insults at Trump supporters, but still refuses to acknowledge the base of that support: 1) He was a damned good President, and 2) He had a landslide election stolen from him…and us. And all the wailing and gnashing of anti-Trump teeth will not change that support.

Why would Shafton, if looking to be taken seriously in his commentary, think that his conversation with his 96 year-old mother be of any interest or importance? I'm not casting aspersions on the woman, who may be quite interested in politics, but are we to see her as representative of a large segment of Republican voters? This little article seems more like something from "Readers Digest".

He's not quite got it.
Trump won't be here forever. We need to look beyond him to begin solidifying an America First Future. People to advise him and learn under his guidance. People we can trust not to backstab and betray. People who can take up the fight when he can't any more.
America First isn't about Trump. Trump is about America First.

The fantasy is that a genie will arise from the bottle to convince the "fatigued" that they'd be better off with him than they were under Trump. DeSantis wouldn't run against him for the same reason he dropped out of the Senate race after Rubio re-entered it following his own failed presidential run. All other candidates would fail to thrive in the shadow cast by Trump's many accomplishments.
Fatigued voters still vote their pocketbooks. Even if they have to endure mean tweets.

Trump's early mistake was entering Washington on the first day at the job trusting too many backstabbing Rinos and Obama hangerons. The same would happen to DeSantis if he were elected. Trump needs to be returned in 2024 with a vengeance to fix this mess there is no time to play. DeSantis will have his day and many others if the country can even be saved. Where's Trump you say? He's doing all he can do to rally the supporter patriots. Propaganda silly articles like this are to discourage us, 90-year-old granny wondering what Trump is doing, give me a break.

I heard that Geraldo's dream team is Romney/Ryan. Maybe for the dems!
Trump would have huge support if he would just set his ego aside, and admit that he was naive' in bragging about his accomplishments regarding the vaccines and vents. They were both deadly and horrible for this country.

I love what Donald Trump has done and is trying to do for the country. His bumptious personality bothers me little because I agree with his actions and, frankly, think he’s kind of funny and even lovable in a roguish sort of way. But he is 76 years-old and that concerns me greatly. He may seem like the fiery bull, the larger-than-life figure who nature will never conquer but she will and, statistically, within 9 years. In the meantime, any number of health and cognitive problems could appear. I have no interest in denouncing my appreciation for what the man has accomplished nor my affection for a champion of the things I believe in but realistically Pres. Trump’s energies would be best used in campaigning for a younger person who he feels shares his attributes for leadership and his love of America and it’s traditional values. IOW, it is not the man and his successes and loyalties which stand in the way of my support for another run but the calendar. However, should he be the nominee I will most vigorously support him. Thank God for Donald Trump.

As time goes by my enthusiasm for a Trump run in 2024 is cooling. I am disappointed that he focuses so much on 2022. Yes, he was robbed but that theft is not an important issue for voters.
His age will be an issue. It’s long overdue for the baby boomers to make way for new blood. DeSantis has shown that he is superior in delivering a message, following through and dealing with a hostile press. To be honest, I hope Trump declines to run.

His mother isn't listening to Trump's speeches. Yes, he is talking about the corrupt 2020 election because if you can't have an honest system, democracy is doomed. What he is talking about more, it the oil, food medical and labor issues that became a problem as a result of what happened in 2020. And that he knows how to avoid these issues. If she expects him to carry on like AOC then I guess she is right.

The Democrats have gotten away with murder, and a stolen election. They are afraid of Trump regaining power.

The Swamp media and the GOPe's LiteSwamp are both promoting the view that the Republican Base has turned against Trump and now agrees with them. It's almost like the Babylon Bee and Baghdad Bob had a love child.
Could the New Worlders be aiming to pull off the steal during the primaries, this time around?

Yes, of course it's all Dem propaganda to demoralize the GOP faithful. Nonetheless, the Trumpistas are expecting a GOP nomination cakewalk for FPDT, and they may be badly disappointed. Remember "Clinton Fatigue"? Remember the last months of Dubya? Obama? While there is Trump derangement, there is also fatigue whether his supporters like to recognize it or not. The GOP offers a number of capable and younger candidates. They're not going to let their opportunity pass.
