Beloved actor Paul Rudd sent a middle schooler a heartwarming letter of encouragement, promising the 12-year-old boy that “things get better” after his classmates refused to sign his yearbook at the end of the school year.
Brody Ridder, who just finished his sixth grade year at The Academy of Charter Schools in Westminster, Colorado, was devastated in May when his yearbook was left nearly blank of signatures and well-wishes for the upcoming summer.

I was like this kid and finally decided not to wait for someone else to call me. Sixth grade and junior high are tough years. Parents do well to HELP (not do it for them) cultivate worthwhile company. Teach them to reach out to some new students and invite them to do something interesting. I see lots of sullen, sad sacks that just mope around. Smile, talk, encourage and you'll have lots of friends.

How noble of Mr. Rudd to take a little time to encourage a young person going through difficult days. Everyone has to endure some degree of bullying in school but the boy in this story must be getting more than his share.
FWIW, when my children went through their ration of ostracism at school I told them that God wanted them to use it to learn how it felt so they wouldn’t do it to others.
Also, while not bullying per se, I am reminded of something else. My son played football in high school. I well remember another boy on his team who suited up for every game. The boy, who was well-liked but not particularly athletic, was rarely called in to play but there he was, on the bench, heartily cheering his teammates and ready to play at any moment for four years. He must have felt excruciating frustration and disappointment but not once did anyone hear him complain or see his smile waver. Not one time. It was sublime. The son of English parents, he went on to study law at Oxford and is today a successful lawyer in London. It does get better.

I was that kid in my youth. The bullying didn't stop until I fought back. Oh, I don't win the fights. I had a reputation for not stopping once it started. Engage me and you will get hurt.
I had a small circle of friends and 60 years later I still have a small circle of friends.

So kind of Paul Rudd. I was never bullied nor did I bully but I saw enough of it to make me ill. Mean girls are the worst.

In the old days, we settled this stuff at 3:30 just off school grounds after the bell had rung. Standing your ground and fighting back was worth any lumps you may have earned in the dust up. Today you’d be thrown into the slam at Rikers Island on a quarter million dollars bail. Give me the old days.

This article brought tears to my eyes. Paul Rudd stepped up and made a change in a kids life. I don't think the bullying of today is like what we experienced back in the day. I hope things look up for this young man and that he thrives.

So now being unpopular is bullying? Why not. They are entitled to everything else. Oh, and mama is an attention hound. Why else post a picture on a global outlet.
They both need help.

As the previous posters wrote: if you fight back, they’ll leave you alone. Especially if you catch one alone off school grounds.

This mother is not doing her son any favors. Demanding friends for her son is a no-win game.

My son had lots of friends in middle school and was well liked. That all ended in high school. He had one friend all through high school. As far as my son is concerned, high school was almost unbearable, but he managed to graduate with some academic honors and has moved on and has as far as he's concerned his dream job working for BMW. It does get better. Sometimes it just takes a little longer than others. I think the high school experience my son went through toughened him up a bit.

These parents and schools are creating some of this by having graduation and proms and year books at an age when the kids are so immature. We never had any year books until high school; never had a dress up dance until the 12th grade prom; and certainly never walked in a graduation program until the end of 12th grade. By the time these kids get to 12th grade everything is ho hum boring to them.

While the undescribed, alleged bullying may have been hard for her, Mama Bear only intensified the situation by posting it on PhakeBook. Strikes me as an e-version of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy on her part.
What Paul Rudd did for the boy, Dad should have done. Dad? Dad?? Oh, Daaad???

I don't know which would be worse---mom calling the school or putting the whole thing on Fakebook. Either way, her reaction gives some insight into the kid's lack of social life, I think.

Consider your scum 'friends' NOT signing as a badge of honor!
