Report shows three missed opportunities

A new report from the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University shows that law enforcement responding to the Uvalde school shooting on May 24 had three missed chances to slow the gunman before the fatal shooting that resulted in the deaths of 19 students and two adults. According to the report, a Uvalde officer armed with a rifle sighted in to shoot the 18-year-old gunman before he entered the school but instead waited for permission from a supervisor.

Comments:

More cops are not the answer to these situations. The plain truth is that the police covered themselves in ignominy. And that's not the first time involving a school shooting. The first line of defense is locked doors. In Uvalde a teacher opened a door for reasons unknown, closing it when she saw the gunman approach...but the door didn't lock properly. (Blame the locks.) And the rest is horrific. It ought to be a felony for anyone to open doors without authorization during school hours. So far as I know, the teacher has not been named...and I can guess why.

This is the first admission I have seen that people bled to death, while police stood around for over an hour.

I'm surprised some of the victims didn't starve to death waiting for the cops to show up with coffee and donuts from the Red cross.

"a Uvalde officer armed with a rifle sighted in to shoot the 18-year-old gunman" Can you imagine the Media OUTRAGE if the cop HAD shot the Thug? "MURDEROUS COP GUNS DOWN CHILD WHO HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG!" .... or headlines to that effect. 'Children' can be up to 26 years old ..... when it suits the Leftist narrative. The cop would be looking at LIFE IN PRISON!

Now that we know how things turned out, it is easy to say the cop should have taken the shot. But after months of hearing Derek Chauvin castigated for trying to handle a hyped-up drug addict, watching TV talking heads spewing anti-cop venom, it would be understandable that a cop might hesitate to pull the trigger. Just the natural inclination of a moral man to not kill another human would make one hesitate. And it is not known if the cop knew at that moment in time that Ramos had already killed people away from the school grounds. It is the delay in entering the classroom that is galling. At that point, it was clear what the situation was.

Sorry for the second post, but in response to those above who say the cop shouldn't have taken the shot, excuse me, but if it was YOUR kid in that school that day, and some punk-azz kid who just wrecked his grandma's truck and was toting a long gun near the door, why wouldn't a cop at least scream, "DROP IT!", "GET ON THE GROUND!", then take the shot? And since the punk had just shot his grandma in the face(!), it would have been more than justified to take the shot without straining the cop's voice.

Berlin says it can deliver the first Gepard tanks in July. That's too slow, a Ukrainian parliamentarian said on Tuesday, as Russian forces launched an assault on the country's east. "For us, July is like, 'what?'" Anastasia Radina, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, told Reuters at the World Economic Forum.

Millions of Americans rely on the federal government to cover the cost of college. Education loans have existed for generations, but borrowing only really took off in the past two decades. Soaring college costs, higher enrollment, changes to the federal lending system, labor market demand for credentials and paltry wage growth have all contributed to the $1.6 trillion in outstanding federal student debt. This does not include debt originated in the private market.

Forty years ago we had a soaring inflation rate, obscene gas prices and interest rates in the teens. Today, thanks to their incredible incompetence, bad policies and serial stupidity, the Democrats in Washington are bringing back all those problems. It’s getting so bad, I’m actually beginning to think Jimmy Carter was not such a bad president after all. People under 40 have no idea how bad things were in the late 1970s under Carter. They’ve grown up knowing only 3 percent interest rates, dirt cheap gasoline and 2 percent inflation. They don’t know how miserable things were under Carter or how miserable they can get again under Biden.

It's tempting for Americans to get smug about the sinking of the Moskva, the Russian Navy's flagship in the Black Sea. Whether it was destroyed by Ukrainians or — less plausibly — sunk because of a non-combat onboard explosion of ammunition, the result is both a humiliation and a setback for Vladimir Putin's war efforts. If you're cheering Ukraine's defenders, it's hard not to take some satisfaction in that. But America's fleet might also be more vulnerable than you think.

For many readers, the above title will conjure up memories of the 2008 housing crash caused by the proliferation of subprime mortgages and the subsequent tsunami of defaults. But a better corollary for the coming Biden bust is the Carter crash that occurred three decades earlier. During the final two years of Carter’s term, sales of existing and new homes collapsed because the Fed was forced to raise interest rates sharply to get double-digit inflation under control. This, in turn, produced double-digit mortgage rates that priced millions of potential buyers out of the market.
