Jump out of a perfectly good airplane, charge a machine gun nest, be stationed at Ft. Irwin – these are just three of the myriad miseries American patriots are willing to endure to defend our country. But today's military is asking too much of our young people, as evidenced by the crashing recruitment rates that threaten to deplete a military already running short of soldiers. Have our young people suddenly turned from heroes to zeros, ne'er-do-well heirs of the brave warriors who confronted the forces of tyrannical gun control at Lexington and Concord?

While the author makes a strong case for a strong military, we should remember that we squandered our robust military in 2 wars with Iraq (where we are still fighting) and for 20 years in Afghanistan. And that we spent a fortune defending Europe for 75 years from Soviet/Russian invasion while Europe grew incredibly dependent upon Russia for oil and natural gas. Now that we have an stunningly weak if not demented president who abhors patriotism, we’re supposed to be upset that normal Americans aren’t joining the services.
Perhaps Biden can create an update to the WWI “Uncle Sam wants you” recruiting poster with one featuring Richard/Rachel Levine, #2 at HHS and a transgender admiral. Admiral Levine would give new meaning to the phrase, I want you.

High school and I’m proud, but I don’t want him joining the military as it is right now. I’ve already lost one grandchild to this sick twisted society we have now.

1. Abysmal leadership at the strategic level-POTUS and Joint Chiefs
2. Mandatory experimental Jab
3. Mandatory CRT Training
4. Defeat in Afghanistan
All this together means no volunteers

We can thank CJC Milley for this pox on our military. Too bad he'll never be fired for his obvious incompetence since Brandon has proven that he couldn't care less about America's national security.

Forgive 2nd post, but are the fund raising ads to build homes for seriously injured veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan acting as anti enlistment messages? These TV ads are making it clear that if one is grievously wounded serving the country that you have to depend upon charity to function in your house. These fund raising messages are great for the wounded vets but they tell potential enlistees the message that you will be on your own if wounded.
Ads are powerful, but appear to discourage joining the military.

The current military has nothing much to recommend it.
Leaders are incompetent.
Leaders hate the country.
They think you are a racist.
They want homosexuals and men pretending to be women in your unit.
And you MUST take a deadly genetic manipulation shot that does NOT provide any kind of protection from disease, but which may cause irreparable lifetime health damage or death.
I can see why few would subject themselves to this disaster zone.

There are fewer and fewer potential recruits for myriad reasons. The patriotic fever following 9/11 has long subsided. Our foreign policy, which leads our military, is a incoherent mess. We have become a nation looking for trouble as “Leader of the Free World” helping create situations that will involve our military in places none of our business.
Then get into the blazing hypocrisy of our government, starting at our borders. The Chinese are the least of our problems.

America's military is expeditionary. It is designed to go to other places around the world to fight wars. This is because America itself cannot be invaded and conquered by a foreign army.
Problem is, we go fight wars that the outcome of which doesn't effect daily life in America at all. Saigon fell on April 30, 1975. We lost the Vietnam War on that day. When Americans awakened on May 1, 1975, was anything about their daily lives different? Did some portion of the country experience famine? Was there some mineral or strategic metal we could no longer acquire? Were we less free?
The only thing different was that 58,220 Americans did not wake up that April morning.
I did 2 tours in OIF. But even then, when I sounded more like Max Boot or Liz Cheney, I knew I was not "defending America". America was not imperiled. It would not be accurate to say I was "fighting for my country". Nice, inspiring phrases. No. And I would tell people, "I am enforcing our government's foreign policy".
Now try making a recruiting commercial out of THAT slogan.

Re #10 - The Leader of the Free World - you mean Zelensky of Ukraine, right? /sarc
Seriously though, why would any normal, white young man or woman want to serve where your own military leadership views you as a potential domestic terrorist? As for patriotism, as I sarcastically need above, the only time Biden and Co., show any love of country is for Ukraine and not the USA.

The problem is that it is the historic warrior classes that are staying away and are no longer enlisting in the US military in numbers sufficient to populate the combat units that come into direct contact with the enemy on the battlefield. Apparently there is still not much of a recruiting problem with the so-called “woke” class who populate the rear echelon mess kit repair type units that proudly display their rainbow colors. As for a legitimate “draft” forget it, as these days the so-called elite Democrats are not about to allow their offspring to be drafted into combat units of the armed forces to fight in foreign wars, the Democrat political establishment knows that. So unless the mainland USA is actually invaded by a foreign military force forget about a future draft to scoop up Americans to fight in the politicians foreign wars. In that respect it is more likely that the Democrats and their RINO compatriots are more likely to try to get non-English speaking and generally uneducated illegal aliens to enlist in the armed forces to populate infantry like units and will offer them immediate U.S. citizenship in return. Take all they from an old guy who spent the entire year of 1968 on the ground in Vietnam.

#16 I agree there isn't going to be a draft. The Congressman who votes to reinstate that is enjoying his last term in office. The draft should only be allowed when there is an existential threat to CONUS, and even then only after a formal declaration of war.
But nobody has the sea or airpower to attack CONUS. Russia struggles to supply troops with ammo, food, fuel, etc. a mere dozens of miles from Russia's own border.
Absent the draft, America's political establishment will need to abandon the "World Cop" model used to prop up the global order established to win the Cold War. I think we need a break. And frankly, I don't care who runs Syria or Libya or whatever anyway.

They have been jerking around with social experiments at least since the 70's. Back then it was racial. In the 80's it was women. by the 90's it was foreigners and religion. by the 2000's it was more no-win wars. Most of us just rolled our eyes and continued on with the mission. The senior officers would occasionally call a formation, inspect the troops without looking at any of them, and lay some words of politically correct wisdom on us. We had one colonel who told the truth once and he was forced to retire.

Girly men w/ man-buns are not going to leave mama's basement and actually, physically fight for this country. They're brave enough in the anonymity of social media or in a crowd of black-clad, masked anti-Fa hoodlums when the odds are 10 to1 in their favor, but in a real, you might get hurt scenario, you'll never see them!

Everybody from raw young Marine Corps recruits to students and graduates of our elite military academies now realize that the military has become and woke bunch of government drones led by the worst leaders in the country. I once served proudly for a force of fighting men that were unequaled in the world. Unfortunately that force no longer exists.

Word gets around when recruits return home on leave that the military is so screwed up with wokeness and equity that they already long for the day their enlistment is up. Of course, living with squishy girly-men doesn't inspire confidence in troops. As a former CO of several units, I can tell you without hesitation there are homosexual/lesbian sexual harassment and assault cases involving straight men and women in barrack living. Senior leadership keeps increasing the pressure against normal people serving in this insane effort to make everyone equal regardless of the damage being done to unit cohesion. This country will suffer and military people will be killed or maimed because of these horrendous policies. Destroying the military so a miniscule number of abnormal people can "feel" included is simply shortsighted and ill conceived.

Who wants to be quarantined, masked, "vaccinated", sat in front of a diversity video for 2 hours a day, and if white, sat in front of an additional 2 hour "white privilege" video. Then, asked to defend Ukraine, not a NATO member, but is a state corrupted by both the Democrats and the Republicans, who are themselves corrupt. Who wants to be led by Milley and the Sec of Defense? No, find other job opportunities. The "elite" will get all the officer jobs, and the rest will prepare the food, clean the quarters, shine their shoes, and be first into the foxholes.

My two sons were Marines. One deployed to Iraq twice (32 in his unit (2/4) were KIA). My other son commanded 2/2 Snipers.
I'm proud of them, obviously, but I'd do everything in my power to keep them from enlisting today, with these numbnuts in charge.

Went through F4 checkout at George AFB enroute to Vietnam back in ‘66. After entering the main gate and heading down the main drag there was a sign on the side of the road that said “OUR MISSION IS TO FLY AND FIGHT...NEVER FORGET IT”. We flew hard, drank hard and fought hard. Wouldn’t have missed it for anything. Nowadays our alleged leadership is more into gender confusion, proper pronouns & safe spaces instead of putting iron and lead on the target. This crap is a cancer gutting a once proud military. It won’t likely recover.

I had a long talk with my child about not joining the military when I started puking in the back yard watching the disaster that was Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan — reminders of my time there including periodic shooting pain from a broken back and shrapnel.
First child in four generations to not serve.
She speaks fluent Hebrew. She talked me into letting her apply as a Lone Soldier in Israel.

Wokeness has not only taken over our military but also our service academies, where cadets and midshipmen are being indoctrinated in racist Critical Race Theory, Transgenderism and "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion." Who in his right mind wants to join a military that denigrates patriots as "White Supremacists," requires Marxist self criticism sessions for Whites and teaches that America, our Constitution, economic system, institutions and way of life are irredeemably racist? As a West Point graduate, I am appalled at the damage this is doing to recruiting and unit cohesion and morale. It is undermining our war fighting capability in a time of great global turmoil.

Spent 30 years defending our country combat in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Somalia, Haiti, and my last stop Afghanistan in 2002. Oldest boy fought in the Army in Iraq in 2003 and my youngest, a Marine Officer in Afghanistan 2011-2012. I have told them to keep my grandchildren out of the military.
