Washington - The Supreme Court handed President Joe Biden a victory Thursday, ruling that he can shut down a Trump administration program designed to restrict immigration at the southern border.
The court said the Biden administration acted properly in seeking to end the "Remain in Mexico" policy, formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols. It required people seeking asylum at the southern border, mainly from Central America, to wait in Mexico while their claims were decided. From late January 2019 until Biden suspended the program, more than 68,000 people were shuttled back to Mexico. Tent cities sprang up near border entry stations on the Mexican side of the border.
What about the international law that says you request asylum in the first coutry you come to after exiting the one you're trying to escape? On;y Mexicans and Canadians can legally apply for asylum in the U.S.

Bad decision? Don't know. It has to be bad law somewhere?

Did the supremes really say that biden acted properly or did the corrupt media say that. The asylum system in the u.s. is being abused by the invaders. They r economic and criminal invaders. Many r coming for our tax payer provided benefits. Just last week it was reported 80% or more rejected asylum cases in the usa remain in the u.s at which point they are clearly criminals in our country.

Considering how Hispanic voters are now flocking to the Republican Party, you'd think Biden (Biden's handlers, actuallly) would be concerned about letting more Hispanics in.

NBC does not give the reason/law for the Supine's decision that I could find in the article. I missed something?

How can they claim asylum when they usually go through at least ONE other country to get here? They don’t want asylum, they want America.

A real shame. But, in 2024 Trump can put it back in place.

This is what happens when Congress refuses to do its job. So....to get democrats on board with securing the border, the RNC needs to plant themselves at the border to welcome them in and convince them to identify as Republicans. When democrats stop seeing illegals as future voters, then and only then will they get onboard.

Looks like they are trying to protect Biden from impeachment over immigration. Ruling that every Trump law policy plan is not legal.

The decision was based on if the stay in Mexico was a law or a EO. It was not a law.

SCOTUS would not allow Trump to end and reverse Obama's DREAMERS policies, even though they were never passed by Congress and an unlawful usurpation of power by the President.
So, tell me why Trump's 'Remain in Mexico" policy can be cancelled by Biden. It worked!
Maybe Chief Justice Roberts had to give Biden a Win because the Dems were getting too butt hurt by the conservative decisions.

The whole issue was whether the Biden administration could alter a Trump administration agreement with the country of Mexico to have those traveling through Mexico to remain their while the asylum claim was being reviewed.
The determination is the Executive branch is the only branch that can negotiate foreign policy.
What this does now is also put the un-filtered immigration squarely onto the Biden administration and the Democrats pushing to keep such a terrible process in place where many woman and children are being sexually abused, and people are being forced to work with the cartels.
Why I see Hispanics coming around to the Republican side, is they know President Trump had a plan to improve the legal process to enter the country, but the Democrats decided they wanted a political issue they thought worked in their favor instead.

The dissent is very clear about the law, regardless of policy. Illegals may be either incarcerated or re-patriated to whence they came. The majority interpreted "may" as discretionary rather than a one-or-the-other alternative.
Illegal immigration is not the humanitarian situation portrayed, rather a multi-billion dollar industry with tentacles throughout US government, foreign governments, and multitudinous profiteers and enablers. Laws need not apply.

John Roberts is such a wussy. He's become the Court's "swing voter" as arbiter of "fairness" toward the other Branches. I can imagine him with a little Abacus on his desk pushing beads across the wire and counting:
"That's two for conservatives, now one for liberals. That's two for liberals, now one for conservatives. Look everyone, I'm saving Democracy!"

Nothing good will come of this ruling, sad to say. But, sometimes, the Constitution doesn't protect against every terrible thing that the Dems are doing.
