The women’s Bible group leader leaned close to me. She lowered her voice. “You know, abortion was intended to be a form of genocide against Black people and Brown people.”
The implication was that she, as a Latina woman, and I had a special duty to our races — that fighting abortion was a form of fighting racism. “Did you know that Margaret Sanger wanted to exterminate us?” It was 2010, I was 22 and this was evening ladies’ Bible study at the evangelical church I attended in a Dallas suburb. The women were planning a pilgrimage to an antiabortion march.

Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s fiery rhetoric over the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade has given way to her tendency to make everything about herself and her “personal act of reclamation” to protest the historic ruling was to have her nails done.
On Friday, the socialist diva took to Instagram to share a video with her avid fans claiming that even something as mundane as getting a manicure could be an act of resistance, quite possibly her most loopy statement yet but one which will serve to inspire her demoralized followers and satisfy her narcissistic craving for constant attention.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., claimed Thursday that a Secret Service agent who may testify before the Jan. 6 committee about the timeline of events that unfolded around former President Donald Trump during the riot "likes to lie."
Two Secret Service agents, Tony Ornato and Robert Engel, are prepared to testify before Congress that then-President Donald Trump did not lunge at a steering wheel or assault them in an attempt to go to the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot, a source close to the Secret Service told Fox News' David Spunt this week.

Sheila O'Leary stood frozen as jurors walked back into the courtroom and handed a guilty verdict to Judge Bruce E. Kyle regarding her toddler son's death. (snip) The jury convicted O'Leary, 38, of Cape Coral, on six charges: first-degree murder; aggravated child abuse; aggravated manslaughter; child abuse; and two counts of child neglect. (snip) The O’Learys told police after Ezra’s death that the family followed a strict vegan diet, eating only raw fruits and vegetables, but that the toddler was also fed breast milk. (snip) “This child did not eat. He was starved to death over 18 months," said Francine Donnorummo, Special Victims Unit chief at the State Attorney's Office.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) further strutted her woke posturing at the Reagan Presidential Library, where she said the world “is really not going that well” under male leadership.
As part of the “Time for Choosing” speaker series, Liz Cheney briefly honored former President Ronald Reagan before segueing into a diatribe against former Donald Trump, calling him a “dangerous and irrational man.” Cheney also characterized Republican leadership as being loyal to the former president at the expense of the Constitution. Towards the tail-end of her speech, Cheney celebrated that which gives her the most hope for the future: “young women.”

I wasted 20 years of my life chasing utopian energy.
Utopian energy is an imagined form of energy that’s abundant, reliable, inexpensive, and also clean, renewable, and life-sustaining. But utopian energy is as much a fantasy as a utopian society. Seeking the fount of perfect energy allows us to pretend there aren’t real-world tradeoffs between, say, banning fossil fuels and helping people in impoverished nations or between using solar and wind power and conserving natural habitats. For years, I chased utopian energy. I promoted solar, wind, and energy efficiency because I felt like I was protecting the environment.

Back in the days of Roman imperial decadence, at least according to legend, the emperor Caligula demonstrated his unfitness for office and the dangers of public indifference and complacency when he appointed his horse Incitatus a senator. (snip) Sam Brinton (“they/them”) tweeted happily on Wednesday: “It’s official. As of June 19th, I now serve my nation as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy in the Department of Energy.” He attached a photo of himself that was apparently taken in his office;

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday questioned why Jan. 6 committee witness Cassidy Hutchinson is not being prosecuted for lying under oath about her experiences in the White House while serving as an aide to then-chief of staff Mark Meadows.
The former president and his White House officials have disputed much of Hutchinson's testimony to the House Jan. 6 Capitol riot committee. Trump continued defending himself on Thursday through posts on his platform, Truth Social.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan warned parts of the East Coast could be "swallowed by the ocean" in a dissenting Supreme Court opinion in an environmental regulation case Thursday.
"If the current rate of emissions continues, children born this year could live to see parts of the Eastern seaboard swallowed by the ocean," Kagan wrote in her dissent.
Justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor joined Kagan's dissent in the 6-3 case.
"Today, the Court strips the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the power Congress gave it to respond to ‘the most pressing environmental challenge of our time,'" Kagan wrote.

Vasectomy clinics are reportedly seeing a sharp rise in men booking appointments since Roe v. Wade was overturned last week.
Despite no data readily available to confirm this trend, urologists nationwide are noticing a sudden increase in bookings – with some even saying they are now booked until the end of August.
One Iowa urologist noted a 200 to 250 percent increase in bookings at his clinic, while a Los Angeles urologist saw a 300 to 400 percent rise in bookings, the Washington Post reported.
However, one Kansas City urologist reported a whopping “900 percent” spike in men seeking to undergo the sterilizing procedure.

Wednesday, during an appearance on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) vowed to remove Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy, who is poised to be the next House Speaker if Republican win control of Congress after this year’s midterms, was critical of Schiff’s role on the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill riot.
“I’ll promise you this — when I’m speaker, [Schiff] will not be on the Intel Committee anymore,” McCarthy said. “And you know what else, Swalwell won’t either."

People used to ask me how women of Iran could allow their rights to be taken away. The overturning of Roe v. Wade provides a glimpse of how swiftly, in broad daylight, decades of progress and half the population's rights can be trampled. I grew up in Iran, where the fundamentalist Guardian Council doesn't allow any laws to pass without their approval. Several recent rulings by a fundamentalist U.S. Supreme Court favoring religious ideology and the expansion of gun rights, despite legislative efforts, show that we're heading in a similar direction here. This feels eerily familiar.
