A Virginia father kills himself after he found his 18-month-old son dead in the backseat of an overheated car on Tuesday, police said. 'This is a horrible tragedy on so many levels,' Chesterfield Police Lt. Col. Christopher Hensley said. Police speculate the father went to work in the morning for three hours and forgot to drop his son off at daycare during an ongoing heatwave. Temperatures in Chesterfield reached a high of 80F on Tuesday, according to The Weather Channel.

So tragic but several children have died this way this year! There is an alarm when someone is unbuckled - there needs to be an outside alarm that must be physically turned off by opening other door if any weight in back seat after driver unseats.

First off, condolences to the family on this awful tragedy. Somehow we have to take life more seriously. I wonder how people can be so focused on work to forget a child. We’re so dependent on machines telling us what to do and when. Facebook reminds people of birthdays anniversaries etc when we used to know this by heart. Self driving cars now, AI controlled homes - and more to come. When you see these young mothers carrying their child in this huge suitcase size removable car seat, banging back and forth against their leg as they walk, you wonder if the child enjoys that action. We used to carry our kids in arms, not carry around like luggage. It’s all related somehow, hope we can figure out how to do better.

I can see our whole car, a large four-door sedan and would certainly be aware of a child in a car seat in the back seat. I wonder if Dad only intended to leave his baby for a short while. Was he really at work, or somewhere else?

This is so horrible. Agreement with those who have called for a device to alert the distracted parent. When i was a new father i had a terrible fear of such forgetfulness. After an entire lifetime of not having a baby, of just being able to walk out the door of the house anytime you please without concern for someone napping in the back room, it is hardly surprising that such forgetfulness occurs. One time i left the fireplace gas valve key in the valve and couldn’t help think how disproportionate the punishment to the crime would have been if one of the toddlers had turned on the gas. May God have some Healing Forgiveness for everyone who is suffering from this both in this world and the next.

A device that could save a life in such a situation would be a fan that turns on at as the temperature creeps up, It could be the existing heater fan with an adaption. When it turns on, it could also send an alert to a parent's phone along with a snapshot to show anyone in the car.

I have to wonder if this is happening because there might be some underlying condition in the child that the parents don't want to deal with maybe. This guy paid big for the loss of his baby, as he should have. I hope God has mercy on him and takes this into account.

Another senseless loss, yet the solution is so simple: put children's car seats in the front passenger seat! Yes, right beside the driver. I'm convinced these deaths did not happen until the nanny-state meddlers decreed that child safety seats had to be in the back, out of the driver's field of view. Seems to me any governor could save lives by simply issuing an emergency order suspending this rule.

The message from Democrats after a month of celebrating “pride” is that it’s time to feel shame. Unfortunately, they aren’t referring to any of the debauch festivals and depraved events promoted throughout the month of June. Ever detached from logic and reason, the month of July kicked off for the left with a reminder that America is filled with “hate and unrest” and “a lot of people probably don’t want to celebrate our nation right now.” At least that was the message from the City of Orlando, Florida Friday as they promoted their upcoming Independence Day fireworks display.

In our country today, there are people who dismiss the Founding Fathers through the prism of 2022. If these people had their way, they would remove every plaque, statue or word that celebrates the genius and courageous acts of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. For example, on July 3, 2019, a journalist from Vox put out this little gem: “The main benefit of the revolution to colonists was that it gave more political power to America’s white male minority.” I suspect that when the 56 men signed the declaration in Philadelphia in 1776 — a literal death warrant for each —

Americans are far more interested in inflation being tamed in the United States than helping Ukraine in its war with Russia and they are demanding that President Biden provide relief from the crushing burden of rising prices. For Biden’s part, he’s vowing that the nation will be making sacrifices “as long as it takes” for Ukraine. But a new poll shows that he is increasingly out of touch with the American public. A YouGov poll shows that a devastating 40 percent of Americans think we should be getting inflation under control rather than throwing billions at Ukraine in the war with Russia.
