Rep. Lauren Boebert survived a primary challenge from state Sen. Don Coram in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District Tuesday night, The Associated Press reported. The Colorado Republican handily defeated Coram, a moderate who has been known to reach across the aisle during his time as a GOP state senator, according to the AP. During the campaign Coram blasted Boebert for being “a right-wing celebrity pundit rather than a representative of the people she is paid to represent,” Newsweek reported.

"Survived" is a word I'd expect to be used if the win was by a few percentage points. Maybe "Surprising" to the media whores in Colorado who have it in their thick skulls that the lady is a dolt, an "unlicensed escort" (which leads me to ask, what is a "licensened escort?"). A 27% win is a landslide. Heck, I was taught that 55-45 wins were landslide wins in politics.

Boebert accomplished more than a defeat. It was a drubbing. And I am glad she is a member of Congress. Boebert gives a much needed perspective to that chamber.

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday questioned why Jan. 6 committee witness Cassidy Hutchinson is not being prosecuted for lying under oath about her experiences in the White House while serving as an aide to then-chief of staff Mark Meadows. The former president and his White House officials have disputed much of Hutchinson's testimony to the House Jan. 6 Capitol riot committee. Trump continued defending himself on Thursday through posts on his platform, Truth Social.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan warned parts of the East Coast could be "swallowed by the ocean" in a dissenting Supreme Court opinion in an environmental regulation case Thursday. "If the current rate of emissions continues, children born this year could live to see parts of the Eastern seaboard swallowed by the ocean," Kagan wrote in her dissent. Justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor joined Kagan's dissent in the 6-3 case. "Today, the Court strips the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the power Congress gave it to respond to ‘the most pressing environmental challenge of our time,'" Kagan wrote.

Vasectomy clinics are reportedly seeing a sharp rise in men booking appointments since Roe v. Wade was overturned last week. Despite no data readily available to confirm this trend, urologists nationwide are noticing a sudden increase in bookings – with some even saying they are now booked until the end of August. One Iowa urologist noted a 200 to 250 percent increase in bookings at his clinic, while a Los Angeles urologist saw a 300 to 400 percent rise in bookings, the Washington Post reported. However, one Kansas City urologist reported a whopping “900 percent” spike in men seeking to undergo the sterilizing procedure.

Wednesday, during an appearance on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) vowed to remove Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee. McCarthy, who is poised to be the next House Speaker if Republican win control of Congress after this year’s midterms, was critical of Schiff’s role on the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill riot. “I’ll promise you this — when I’m speaker, [Schiff] will not be on the Intel Committee anymore,” McCarthy said. “And you know what else, Swalwell won’t either."

People used to ask me how women of Iran could allow their rights to be taken away. The overturning of Roe v. Wade provides a glimpse of how swiftly, in broad daylight, decades of progress and half the population's rights can be trampled. I grew up in Iran, where the fundamentalist Guardian Council doesn't allow any laws to pass without their approval. Several recent rulings by a fundamentalist U.S. Supreme Court favoring religious ideology and the expansion of gun rights, despite legislative efforts, show that we're heading in a similar direction here. This feels eerily familiar.

The numbers are in, and it doesn’t look like President Joe Biden will be bragging about saving Americans money at this year’s Fourth of July parties. According to a new report from the American Farm Bureau Federation, the total cost for an Independence Day BBQ is up $10 from 2021. That’s a 17 percent hike in cookout prices thanks to government-induced inflation. In total, the cost is about $69.68 for a 10-person celebration that includes grilling essentials such as “cheeseburgers, pork chops, chicken breasts, homemade potato salad, strawberries, and ice cream.” Remember last year’s BBQ food prices?

Despite demands from several prominent Democrats, the federal government is prohibited from using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. The Hyde Amendment, first included in federal appropriations bills in 1976, prohibits the federal government from funding abortions unless “the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term or where the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest.” Activists estimate that the Hyde Amendment prevents at least 60,000 abortions every year. The amendment is named for Republican Illinois Rep. Henry Hyde, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee who championed it.

The military is facing the worst recruiting environment since the end of the Vietnam War. The Army is at only 40% of its recruiting numbers for the fiscal year despite raising its maximum enlistment bonus from $40,000 to $50,000. It now offers new recruits up to $10,000 for showing up to basic training in 30 days. And is no longer even asking them for a high school diploma. "We've never offered $50,000 to join the Army," Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen, head of U.S. Army Recruiting Command, said. While the Army runs anime lesbian wedding ads, it’s pushing away the recruits it needs, young patriotic men from traditional backgrounds.

During a press conference at the NATO Summit in Madrid, Spain, on Thursday, President Joe Biden condemned the “destabilizing, outrageous behavior” of the U.S. Supreme Court in overturning Roe v. Wade. The high court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overruled Roe returns abortion regulation to each state to determine individually. Abortion provisions in blue states, where Biden may retain some modicum of popularity, remain unchanged and may wind up even being expanded. Some employers have vowed to pay for the travel expenses to enable employees to go to another state to terminate a pregnancy.
