To No One's Surprise, a Gas-Powered Road
Trip Bests One in an Electric Vehicle

I adore road trips, especially when I am not the one driving. Thankfully, hubby enjoys being in the driver’s seat, so I get that option more often than not. Anyone who has been on the open road, and especially has gotten off the beaten path, understands the sense of adventure and freedom resident in even the smallest of trips. The 400 miles north from Orange County to San Luis Obispo is enough space, road, and adventure to make me feel as though I have traveled. Road Tripping is a distinctly unique American activity. In Europe they take trains. In America, we drive, and it is unrivaled.

Comments:

I also adore road trips, which is why I will be holding on to my gas fired car until its wheels fall off!! FJB and the horse he rode in on!!

Great Article! Tells the TRUTH regarding Charging Electric Cars! I think the whole idea will be kicked to the corner when a New Administration takes over. The Average American, by then, will be SO tired of what Biden handed to all of them, that they will vote for Micky Mouse if he is a Republican! Most of us do not want to have an Electric Car. I would love to have a NEW gas powered car, however, but the Dealers in our area only have one or two New Cars on their Lot. Everything needs to be ordered and will take up to 6 months for delivery! Thanks to China for not making those famous little Chips everyone needs! One would think there would be ONE person in the U.S. who could start a company here to make those Chips! But I digress!

I'm seriously thinking about taking a road trip to Las Vegas. I've got the time now that I'm retired. Still, the thought of a four-thousand-mile round trip keeps my car parked for the time being, but there is so much I want to see. However, with the increasing trouble with air travel, I keep looking at my car as a better choice right now even with stupid high gas prices.

My only experience with an electric car was back a few years ago. My car was in the shop and I stopped by Enterprise to get something so I could take Dad in for his surgery. I said I didn't care what it was, and they gave me a Prius. I live in Maryland, a state somewhat famous for our rolling hills. Even with me pressing the pedal all the way to the floor, it would not go uphill faster than about 35 mph. It is the only car I have ever driven that I absolutely hated. About a year later, I needed to rent a car for a trip. I told them upfront to not even think of giving me an EV. The clerk nodded and said the company got rid of all of them - far too many complaints.

We just got our new diesel powered 4x4 HD pickup truck. It took about six months from the day we first contacted the dealer to the day we took delivery. This is one of the most popular vehicles now. I am amazed at the 22mpg I got doing 80MPH all the way from north Idaho to central CA. If FJB and the Demzis weren't trying to dictate behavior to everyone except themselves the real Americans would work things out just fine. Someday electric vehicles will be mature technology and will find their places among the other technologies but they can never replace the rural country functionality of a fuel driven power plant. You see, electricity is not a fuel, batteries are not a fuel source. These are just ways of transporting energy already created by a fuel source. Around here, where I live and work, it is essential that a vehicle is always ready to go, spare water is on hand, spare food, medicine, chainsaws, tools and repair materials, backup communication, firewood, guns and ammo, etc. Most people have some combination of all of this and between us all we are well suited to the SHTF that regularly happens. Electric vehicles are not only NOT on the list, they are more of a liability.

My wife drove from the KC area to central Florida for a week long visit last week. A couple of fuel stops and one hotel stop each way. A fine trip in a normal gasoline car, and would have been a three day nightmare and struggle in a stupid, short range, slow to recharge, electric mess.

Of course, especially on a 400 mile snowy, icey -10 F day or a hot bright 110 day. Electric vehicles DO NOT come close to addressing natural climate change.

The WSJ writer says the Level 2 chargers which take 8 hours are fine for overnight charging. But what if the charging station at the hotel you plan to stay at isn't available when you arrive? It could be in use or out-of-service and then what? Do you drive to another location, plug-in and call a Uber for a ride back to your hotel and hope your car is still where you left it when you return the next morning?

From twenty years in commercial broadcasting, twelve years as a US Congressman, and thirteen years as VP of a firearms ballistic company helping build their technology into the leading ballistics identification methodology in the World, it has been a fantastic ride. If you consider yourself a pro-life Republican and weren’t on the Trump Train in 2016, sit your pansy-ass down. Had you and your precious “principles” won the day, Hillary Clinton would have appointed those three Supreme Court justices instead of Donald Trump, and the moral atrocity known as Roe v. Wade would still be a “constitutional right.” We see you out there pretending that’s not the case, and you look ridiculous. For decades, the Republican establishment ran around promising to overturn Roe, and for decades, they failed. And instead of Trump all-stars like Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch, we got Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy, John Roberts,

Startling surveillance video purports to show a Department of Veterans Affairs patient advocate allegedly grabbing an elderly veteran by the neck, throwing him to the floor, and stomping him twice. “He was Mike Tyson-ing me there,” the victim claimed. Based on the 30-second clip, and there may be additional, as-yet-undisclosed facts and recordings to follow, it appears that the victim may have made first contact with the VA worker with his left hand. Whether that justified the alleged beatdown that followed is another matter entirely.

Most of the unhinged wailing centers on the supposed "separation of church and state," which is invoked dubiously to claim that allowing parents to choose where their children attend school means that religion is being forced by the government. Democrats for years have been promoting the notion that Republicans are congenitally racist, regulur Bull Connors. It's the old Norman Rockwell painting of a little black girl clad in a white dress, being escorted by lawmen into a desegregating school in Mississippi, with foul racist graffiti and tomato stains on the wall behind her, that serves as their template for Republicans -- despite the fact that the people who opposed desegregation in the Deep South were Democrats.
