Postmates, Burger King, Dr Pepper release
ads with gay sexual references

Postmates, Burger King, Dr Pepper and other brands have released commercials with “top” and “bottom” gay sex references as part of Pride Month advertising campaigns that are worrying some LGBTQ advocates. The sexualized advertising is a startling pivot for a month when commercials traditionally have emphasized rainbows and same-sex couples embracing each other, Matt Lavietes reported Monday for NBC News.(Snip)“Sexualizing any marketing campaign in this way is a risk,” Mr. Witeck said. “But doing so to target LGBTQ consumers has greater risk because it overly sexualizes same-sex attraction in ways that we’ve been trying to normalize in many ways.”

Comments:

The "problematic" part of these ads is that they make clear, in graphic detail, exactly what they're proud of. So are they proud or not? It's in our face for a full month, 24/7, no escape. Many parents seem to be OK with it, and in two weeks we'll wave our US flags (made in China) and set off fireworks (also made in China) and grill on grills made in China and sit in lawn chairs made in China, wearing clothes made in China, and pretend that everything is normal. Maybe we'll even do the YOU-Ess AY! chant a few times; that's always a crowd-pleaser.

Just when you thought the USA had hit rock bottom; didn't even see this part, FTA. "One year later, a Cottonelle ad for flushable wipes featured an image of an “eggplant” emoji, often used in the gay community to symbolize a penis, with the message: “Happy Pride. Businesses have always jumped on whatever is stylish to sell their junk. What we are learning here is that there are no limits to the debauchery they will endorse to make a sale. I am quite certain this is a result of the S in ESG. Even large corporations need to borrow money. The big banks are scoring companies based on Environment, Social and Government standards and compliance. Don't do what they expect? Sorry, no loan. Ergo these companies toe the Social line to borrow the money they require to remain solvent.

The United States is pushing to “strengthen international coordination” against the Chinese government’s human rights abuses, with a specific focus on banning products made with forced labor in China‘s Xinjiang region, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday. The U.S. and some human rights groups accuse Beijing of genocide against ethnic Uyghurs in the predominantly Muslim region, and Mr. Blinken sought to highlight the issue as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials began implementing a law prohibiting imports made by forced labor into the United States. President Biden signed the “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act” into law in December after it passed through Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support

Jerusalem—Israel’s outgoing coalition government will fast-track a bill this week to dissolve parliament, setting up the country for its fifth elections in three years, a Cabinet minister said Tuesday. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Monday that he would disband his alliance of eight ideologically diverse parties, a year after taking office, and send the country to the polls. A series of defections from his Yamina party had stripped the coalition of its majority in Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset. Bennett cited the coalition’s failure earlier this month to extend a law that grants West Bank settlers special legal status as a main impetus for new elections.

At some point President Biden’s delay in building any significant new sections of border wall will cross the line into being an illegal obstruction, congressional Republicans warned in a letter Tuesday to the White House demanding answers about the stall. Mr. Biden halted construction more than 500 days ago, making good on his campaign vow that “not another foot” would be built on his watch. But his administration insists he hasn’t actually blocked the money Congress approved but is instead figuring out how it should be spent. That explanation no longer holds water, said Republicans on the House Budget Committee, led by Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri.
