The day Adam Schiff was named to the “Jan. 6” committee is the day we knew the investigation was going to be a frivolous partisan sideshow. As a political strategy, placing an inveterate fabulist like Schiff on the committee only ensured that it wouldn’t have credibility with Republicans—presumably the people Democrats want to convince. With dwindling national interest in the proceedings, Schiff went on TV this weekend and announced that the Jan. 6 Committee was in possession of evidence that Donald Trump had hatched a “fake elector plot” (another scheme that had absolutely no chance of working. ABC News, in conjunction with Ipsos, found that just nine percent of Americans are following the January 6 committee’s televised hearings “very closely.”
The ABC News poll comes after the committee finished its first full week of televised hearings. The committee has held three public hearings, with four more on June’s congressional calendar.
So far, the committee’s efforts have only made a six percent difference in the amount of Americans who believe former President Donald Trump should be held criminally liable for the January 6 Capitol riot.
Republican gubernatorial hopeful Rep. Lee Zeldin added some extra flavor to the final debate of the gubernatorial campaign when he dismissed Andrew Giuliani as a former “Chick-Fil-A” runner at the White House outranked by the Easter Egg Bunny.”
