Texas-based American Airlines will be cancelling flights to Ithaca and Islip, New York, as well as Toledo, Ohio, in September, blaming a lack of pilots, according to local reports. “In response to the regional pilot shortage affecting the airline industry, American Airlines has made the difficult decision to end service,” American Airlines spokeswoman Andrea Koos told the Dallas Morning News.(Snip)Across the board, the industry is facing a pilot shortage caused by thousands of retirements and buyouts meant to save airlines money during the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel had dwindled. Post-pandemic travel picked up faster than airlines expected, leaving carriers to scramble to find people

A family member did a decades long career flying as a pilot for American. The hate of the pilots by the management was returned by the pilots. Unfortunately, due to union seniority rules, once you have a few years in with an airline, moving to another is problematic, financially and in choice of routes, which has to do with days working and days off. American management was as rotten a bunch of SOBs as any ever were in industry. I doubt that they have improved.

Say it. Just say it. VACCINE MANDATE. If taking the shots hadn’t been compulsory many pilots would not have retired or quit.

Agree with all of the above. Even if someone had retired early, he only needs some retraining to be brought back up to speed (a lot faster than the whole airline pilot training program). Of course, if (s)he won't get the mandatory death jab, the point if moot.

An Air Force service member has been arrested by military police for an alleged insider attack at a US base in Syria in April that left four US service members injured, officials said. The unidentified airman was arrested in the United States on June 16 after allegedly setting off explosives during the attack in Green Village Syria, Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek told CNN. “After reviewing the information in the investigation, the Airman’s commander made the decision to place him in pretrial confinement,” Stefanek said. No other details about the individual have been released. “We won’t release the individual’s name unless charges are preferred,” Stefanek said.

The United States is pushing to “strengthen international coordination” against the Chinese government’s human rights abuses, with a specific focus on banning products made with forced labor in China‘s Xinjiang region, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday. The U.S. and some human rights groups accuse Beijing of genocide against ethnic Uyghurs in the predominantly Muslim region, and Mr. Blinken sought to highlight the issue as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials began implementing a law prohibiting imports made by forced labor into the United States. President Biden signed the “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act” into law in December after it passed through Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support

Jerusalem—Israel’s outgoing coalition government will fast-track a bill this week to dissolve parliament, setting up the country for its fifth elections in three years, a Cabinet minister said Tuesday. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Monday that he would disband his alliance of eight ideologically diverse parties, a year after taking office, and send the country to the polls. A series of defections from his Yamina party had stripped the coalition of its majority in Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset. Bennett cited the coalition’s failure earlier this month to extend a law that grants West Bank settlers special legal status as a main impetus for new elections.

The door wasn’t even locked. Responding officers waited for a key to a classroom that couldn’t be locked from the inside during the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the state’s public safety director testified Tuesday. In the end, 19 children and two teachers were killed. Armed police reportedly waited nearly an hour outside the classroom that the gunman was in during the May 24 massacre. “I have great reasons to believe (the door) was never secured,” Col. Steve McCraw said at a state Senate hearing Tuesday. “How about trying the door and seeing if it’s locked?” The criticism was one of many made by McCraw, who testified

At some point President Biden’s delay in building any significant new sections of border wall will cross the line into being an illegal obstruction, congressional Republicans warned in a letter Tuesday to the White House demanding answers about the stall. Mr. Biden halted construction more than 500 days ago, making good on his campaign vow that “not another foot” would be built on his watch. But his administration insists he hasn’t actually blocked the money Congress approved but is instead figuring out how it should be spent. That explanation no longer holds water, said Republicans on the House Budget Committee, led by Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri.
