Texas taxpayers are paying the price for Governor Greg Abbott's plan to bus migrants who crossed into the U.S. illegally to Washington, D.C. As of June 7, $2.9 million in taxpayer funds have sent only 1,778 immigrants to the nation's capital, according to Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) documents–and the figure is expected to rise as more buses have already been deployed and Abbott shows no signs of slowing the stunt. More than $1 million of the total cost has gone toward security alone, while taxpayers are also footing the bill for drivers and GPS tracking, among other things.

They can't be sent anywhere, including Mexico, if they don't agree to it.

as a lifelong Texan I support Abbott's bussing.
$1600 is likely a much lower cost than having them stay and soak up state and local resources and destroy property.

All-Hat Abbott at it again. What does the TXNG cost deployed to the border to look through their binoculars? Every night at bedtime he thanks the political gods for Beto.

I'm one of the tax payers so I'm spending it happily. If I get unhappy election day approaches but so far no problem. Double it. Abbot also has Mexicans breaking up caravans so they hopefully will re-route to California.

Let’s leave it to the Texans. Our resident ones - except for transplant(s) - seem to agree with his action. And as it stanrds right now, Abbott could not send them back without their permission. Laptop activists don’e always have all of the facts.

#6, resident Texan and transplant here.
My comment to the Daily Mail - money isn't everything. Abbott knows his constituency. (And then there's Austin.)

Clueless Butt Abbott is sending them to the wrong place.
They should be sent to Martha's Vineyard and Rehoboth Beach. Then we'll hear the howls!

I'd send them to any dem run inner city, like Chicongo or Detroit, and let them take their chances. And any lawyer that showed up to protest, would be on the same bus! In fact, white, ACLU lawyers would automatically be sent to Lorrie Lightfoots South side with a $100 bill pinned on their lapel.

$1,600 per illegal alien one time is better than $1,600 every month. Our state and Fed government throws money at every stupid idea and project. Here's one I strongly support.

This Texan is 100% supportive of this action!!!!! It's worth every penny compared to what those illegal aliens would cost us in tax dollars if they stayed and milked the public dole for years to come!!!! It's a spit in the bucket, but it's a start!!!!!
Those people who attack Abbott for not being "stronger" have clearly never read the Texas Constitution (which we all studied in 7th grade)!!!! Under state law, Texas has a very "weak governor" form of government. The Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House are both far more powerful than the Governor. By law, he doesn't have nearly the power or options that someone like DeSantis in Florida has under their state constitution. But he has found "creative" ways to do the things he has done, and has definitely earned my support in the process.
For people like the OP who fantasize about the governor (any governor) just returning illegals to Mexico against their will. If he tried that, with the current administration in DC, the FBI would swoop in so fast and our governor would be sitting in a dingy prison cell in DC with the January 6th protestors waiting for a trial that wouldn't come for years.

So why does that matter. You either spend $1,600 per illegal to ship them or keep them in Texas and support them for the rest of their illiterate lives. Makes no difference one way or the other. It's all taxpayer money. What they should do is bus the right back to Mexico and dare that hypocrite Mexican president to do something about it.

$61,200,000 is what Texas taxpayers would have paid to house, educate, and feed 1,700 moochers. Thank you Governor.
(Assumes 1,700 leeches receive $3,000 per month from worn out Texans: 1,700 x $36,000 - 61,200,000). Fact check.
Send them back. All of them.

What the Daily Mail doesn't mention is how much it would cost Texas to keep them in the state. Let the lefties pick up the tab since they are encouraging this invasion.

Claiming Allen West would have been the perfect governor is like calling for the back-up quarterback to replace the one with skins on the wall. Many Texans will remember A vocally strident crowd calling for Danny White, the Cowboy’s punter, to replace Roger Stauback.

Greg Abbott, who appears to be the boldest governor ever, has spent $2.9 million to bus 1,778 immigrants to the nation's capital, instead of letting Catholic Social Services do the same thing for free. Meanwhile, the border patrol in Del Rio apprehended 1,780 "migrants," many traveling in very large groups, just yesterday alone. At this rate you're going to need a whole lot more buses and to brush up on your Espagnol, and the rest of the USA will go down the tubes once Texas invariably turns "blue."

Biden has dumped 1.5 million this year into Texas. Abbott has sent 1,778 to DC. The math is abysmal.

#12 brings up some very valid points about our weak-governor constitution in Texas. What #12 says is correct. Many non-native (imports) and native Texans are not aware of this. Some because they didn't go to school here, and others because they chose not to learn in school.
The governor is doing quite well considering what he has to work with. We can all desire more, I certainly do, but he is staying within the constitution and still getting something done. The problem is the politicians that do not stay within the constitution.

In the meantime, another mega-corporation decided to pull up stakes in a Blue-stinkhole State and move to Texas. Last week, Caterpillar announced it was moving its HQ out of IL and will plant itself in Irving, TX.
Keep inflaming the leftists, Gov. Abbott!

Legacy Texans are spending $1,600 per illegal alien to send them to DC (and from there they go wherever they please, even back to Texas), when it would cost much less to return them to Mexico and solve the problem. But the stunt was good enough to get Abbott re-elected; the real danger would have been Allen West as governor, who might have done what Abbott and Gov. Dubya and Gov. Goodhair before him refused to do.
