Sonia Sotomayor praised fellow Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as “car[ing] deeply about the Court as an institution” amid a furor over his wife’s contact with attorney John Eastman about former President Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. “Justice Thomas is the one justice in the building that literally knows every employee’s name, every one of them. And not only does he know their names, he remembers their families’ names and histories,” Sotomayor said Thursday of the Court’s longest serving member at the American Constitution Society’s 2022 national convention.

George Washington University (GW) officials have decided to remove the school’s “Colonial” mascot following years of woke activists demanding the university ban it for not being “inclusive.” Students then suggested the university change its mascot to a “hippo” or a “riverhorse” instead.
“After a thoughtful and deliberate process that engaged the university community for feedback, the George Washington University’s Board of Trustees has accepted the recommendation of a Special Committee to discontinue the use of the Colonials moniker,” GW announced in a statement.

Brown, 75, reportedly filed her candidacy papers in Tallahassee, according to Yahoo News.

Ghislaine Maxwell‘s lawyers are arguing that the former Jeffery Epstein associate should be sentenced to “well below” the recommended 20 years imprisonment for federal sex-trafficking crimes because of an alleged death threat from another inmate. (snip) Maxwell’s lawyers provided details of the alleged death threat in a pre-sentencing report Wednesday. (snip) Her lawyers wrote: “One of the female inmates in Ms. Maxwell’s housing unit told at least three other inmates that she had been offered money to murder Ms. Maxwell and that she planned to strangle her in her sleep.”

In 1990 a horse groomer named Pamela Albertson was raped and murdered at Pompano Beach racetrack in Florida. Robert Earl Hayes, who also worked at the track, was arrested and charged with the crime and was convicted and sentence(d) to death in 1991. One of the key elements in the trial was the then relatively new use of DNA evidence to prove Hayes’ guilt. (snip) In 1997 the results of the 1990 trial were thrown out on the grounds that the DNA evidence was not reliable. Hayes was tried again without the DNA evidence and this time he was exonerated and became a kind of mini-celebrity.
