Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg might have to start biking to work again like a total nerd. That's because the Mexican-made electric SUV he purchased last year for his security detail is being recalled due to a safety defect that "could result in a loss of power [while driving], which could cause a crash," according to Consumer Reports.
Ford announced Tuesday that it was instructing car dealers to stop selling the Mustang Mach-E in response to the safety concern affecting nearly 49,000 of the 100,000 vehicles manufactured at the automaker's Cuautitlan

Another green piece of crap. We had a plug-in hybrid for 1 week (rental) - it was garbage.

Poor pete and chastain. So powerful and still they have to be bothered with proletariat failures. Perhaps a 6 month re-education program on the farm will focus the designers’ minds.

Electric vehicles are only useful for short haul around town driving, worthless for cross country driving. And that only satisfies a small fraction of owners, especially at sky high prices.
And of course, the batteries randomly catch fire and are essentially impossible to extinguish.

All of these EV's suck and I own a hybrid. I do, however, know that if my battery dies, which it will some day, I have a gasoline engine to get me where I have to go. Together they work very well. I do get around fifty one miles to the gallon, which helps with Xidens gas prices, but I will not go to a full electric vehicle. They need to have another ten to fifteen years of research IMHO.

Urban areas yes. Everywhere else No! We will see the problem once an area experiences major power outages due to natural disaster or other causes. How do you rebuild a city when everything is dependent on electricity. Battery powered power line repair trucks? Where do they get their power to recharge when restoring destroyed power systems and lines? Removing debris after a Hurricane or the mess after 911 in NY? Impractical other than urban personal transportation.

An appropriate metaphor for the Biden presidency.

Another of Biden’s cruel jokes on the American people, as noted in AutoWeek’s 12/21/21 article:
“The Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency on Monday announced tougher final clean car standards for light-duty vehicles through 2026. The action, which would result in a fleet-wide average of 40 miles per gallon by 2026…..
Under President Trump, the US fleet would have reached a 32-mpg average by 2026.”
Biden’s mandate via the EPA begins with 2023 model year cars, pickups and SUVs. Since this elimination of consumer choice has been promulgated without Congressional approval, 2022 elections cannot change rule. Neither can the election of a Republican president in 2024. Or to paraphrase Henry Ford, you can buy any new vehicle as long as it’s either a micro car or an EV.

The headline is misleading. Here is a FTA from the close of paragraph 3: “The Mach-E has a starting price of $43,895, although most new models for sale in the Washington, D.C., area are listed in the $60,000 to $80,000 price range.”

Folks could just buy a fuel efficient traditional ICE Japanese car like a Nissan made right here in Tennessee, Honda made in Alabama, or Toyota made in Kentucky. Japanese cars made in the USA are my preference now to be honest.

I used to know a number of people who saved their funds and went to Germany personally to pick out their new vehicle. Back then, it was cheaper to buy it there and ship it back here than to buy it off the lot here. Germany exported their lesser quality vehicles to America for a long time and kept the good ones for their nation. After all, how would we know the difference?
