Ben & Jerry’s wants its cows to stop belching and releasing other gases in order to save the environment.
The Vermont-based ice cream maker said that it plans on changing the bovine diet on 15 of its farms in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
(snip) The company wants to suppress the burps by feeding the animals a “cow-tested, cow-approved meal plan” which “includes a high-quality forage diet and innovative feed additives that reduce the generation of methane as cows digest their food.”
Ben & Jerry’s also wants to reduce emissions by applying “methane reduction technology” to the approximately 80 pounds of manure that cows produce on a daily basis.

Evidently, none of these people even understand their pet theories about climate change.
Carbon dioxide and methane given off by animals does not have a net effect on the environment, because it contains carbon that is already in the ecosystem. Rotting plants eventually give off the same amount of carbon whether rotting in the ground or being digested in a cow's stomach. They are already part of the cycle. The burning of fossil fuels results in a net increase of carbon in the atmosphere, because it is the release of carbon that had been trapped deep under the surface of the earth.

What about the several hundred pounds of manure called Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield that pollutes the environment every day?

I'm proud to say that I've never eaten a single spoonful of their pretentious, overpriced ice cream. I live in an area that has an abundance of 'Blue Bell' brand ice cream. When you've got the best, why settle for an inferior product; because it has a cutsie name?

About 25 years ago, my husband and I were in Vermont for vacation. We stopped by the B&J's factory for a tour and free samples. It was a freak show even back then, and the ice cream wasn't even very good. We got back to the car and just died laughing about how stupid these lie-berals were!!!
There are tons of better ice creams out there. God knows, Bluebell here in Texas is amazing and so much better than that lie-beral garbage coming out of B&J's. We sure have never paid a cent for any B&J's ice cream since then!!!!

YIKES! can you imagine how their ice cream will taste if those poor cows have to keep all that flatulence locked up inside their bodies?

If they just let the cows graze freely there would be no digestive issues. Problem is adding foods that they don't eat naturally.

Think of all the extra years the earth was given when Buffalo Bill helped to slaughter the bison to the brink of extinction.

Morons.
The cows ccREQUIREannot digest cellulose by themselves, and REQUIRE gut bacteria to break down the cellulose in their browse. The bacteria put out methane, and that's not going to change for these two stupid old commies.

Those two old loons would have died of outrage if they’d been around during the dinosaur years. Millions of herds of million -plus methane producers. Ahh, the good old days.

Cows have done very well for thousands of years with their methane generation. It is part of their digestive process. So, we will watch for the mortality stats coming from the Ben & Jerry's herds.

I was watching NOVA last evening. It was about the hisory of the polar ice caps. Their earth's temperature history graph displayed that periods of polar ice has only occured during about 25% of the planet's existence. It also displayed that we are currently below the average historic temperature of the planet - hence we are still warming from an "ice age". Then the host went into a discussion about Venus and CO2 and I changed channel. Venus has an atmospheric pressue 90x that of earth - ideal gas law? Mars is 95% CO2 and has had millions of years to warm yet the ave temp us well below freezing.
How often do we hear that the " settled science" we grew up with was wrong or now seriously questioned ? Remember the 70s when some wanted to spread charcoal on the poles to prevent a new ice age?
As Feynman said " Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts".

Next time Ben and Jerry when you purchase a cow make sure it's a liberal cow without these problems, we all know it's gross conservative cows that have bad manners. FB&J

Ben & Jerry's has been owned by Unilever since the turn of the century. For those boycotting their ice cream, for consistency's sake you might want to ditch your Dove soap, Vaseline, Hellman's mayonnaise, Knorr, and the list goes on . . .
