Comments:

No mention of life jackets but I suspect they didn't have them on. Also, every little kid needs swimming lessons, not for fun but to save their lives.

No matter how peaceful and idyllic the surface may seem, in a one-on-one match-up the water will win. How many times do people ignore the power of a body of water, be it a small river, pond, ocean, or even a swimming pool? Sadly, here's yet another awful reminder of people who ignored it at their peril.

Not boaters...they were shore fishing. Cambodian family. And yes, EVERY child should be waterproofed, Taught to swim. But...Biden, Pelosi and Schumer will advance emergency legislation to ban Ice Cream bars/Popsicles, everyone KNOWS that drownings go up in direct response to the sale of Ice Cream bars/popsicles. A month to month graph of drownings and Popsicle sales show an obvious overlap, the graphed lines match perfectly.

We were all taught to swim in a lake when we were about 3 years old, and then swam at the beaches in Va and Fla, and lakes our whole child hood. As a child I was baffled by the whole concept of drowning. I remember reading the newspaper a story of a man who fell out of a boat while fishing and drowned. I asked my mother why he would drown, and was amazed when she said "He probably didn't know how to swim." I couldn't imagine how someone "didn't know how to swim", especially an adult. It was like breathing or walking to us, we could never remember not knowing how to swim or fearing the water. As I became an adult, I met people who were terrified of the water and had not the slightest idea what to do in it, instead of loving the water and being literally 'drownproof' as kids. I was amazed to see that they were terrified to put their face in the water when standing in a swimming pool shallow end that is just above their waist water depth. Terrified. You could see the stark terror in their eyes at the idea of holding their nose with one hand and just dropping down by bending their knees to submerge their heads for 1 second, with friends standing next to them in water where "safety" meant just standing up. Teaching this fear of water to kids rather than teaching them to swim is doing them a serious, serious disservice. I imagine that it comes from parents who are themselves terrified of water, and the children are either overtly told to be afraid or they sense the fear in their parents and learn to fear water as if it was a giant animal, waiting to grab them and kill them. My family always saw water as a fun place to play and cool off, and never feared it at all. We lived on a lake in Florida for many years and we swam whenever we wanted, parents home or not. Our parents knew we were never going to drown.

Former Bolivian President Jeanine Anez was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday on charges she illegally took over the presidency. The court’s decision to punish Anez, who took office in 2019 following the resignation of former President Evo Morales, was politically motivated, her lawyer Luis Guillen said, according to the New York Times. Guillen also argued that Bolivia’s current government, led by a socialist ally of Morales, broke the law in its treatment of Anez during her detention.

ATLANTA (AP) — When Democrat Stacey Abrams first ran for Georgia governor in 2018, her lackluster personal finances and a hefty bill from the IRS gave Republicans fodder to question how she could manage a state budget when she struggled with her own debts. As she launches a second bid this year, that’s no longer an issue. Abrams now says she’s worth $3.17 million, according to state disclosures filed in March. That’s compared with a net worth of $109,000 when she first ran four years ago.

Americans are frustrated with President Joe Biden’s lies about the economy, and many believe he is at fault for their wallets shrinking. A new poll conducted by the Trafalgar Group found that over 53 percent of people “believe the Biden administration is intentionally letting gas prices rise to make Americans use less fossil fuels.” While 56 percent of voters agreed that the high fuel prices is Biden’s fault. Gas prices have nearly doubled since Biden took office just over a year ago

The Washington state Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that a person’s race, and law enforcement’s long history of discrimination against people of color, should be taken into account when determining the legality of police seizures. The court also clarified state law to say police have seized a person if an objective observer would conclude that the person was not free to leave or refuse a request. But, the court wrote, that “objective observer” must be aware that discrimination and biases “have resulted in disproportionate police contacts, investigative seizures, and uses of force against Black, Indigenous, and other people of color.”

Hogg suggested that a common response to school shootings is to put more police in schools. He then claimed, “Putting more cops in schools hasn’t worked.” He cited two examples to bolster his viewpoint: First he pointed to the armed officer who stood outside Parkland instead of entering, even as the attack was carried out. Then he made claims about the police response to Uvalde. Hogg did not mention the numerous times armed resource officers have saved lives on campus.
